An inspiring tale about friendship, sacrifice and conquering the impossible.
Le Gouffre is the first animated short film produced and directed by Lightning Boy Studio, a young creative team based in Montreal. The film tells the story of two spirited travelers who come across an incredibly wide chasm on their journey and decide to build a bridge to cross it. Released in February 2015, the project had first gained a lot of attention following the huge success of its Kickstarter campaign, which allowed the creators to finance the movie's post-production. Many were impressed by the passion and determination of the small team of three animators, who spent more than two full years creating the 10-minute film.
As of now, Le Gouffre has been selected in more than 60 festivals around the world and won nine awards, four of them for "Best Animated Short".

Lightning Boy Studio was born in 2012 out of a shared passion : to tell great stories. The three founders met in animation school in 2009 and have dreamed ever since to be able to work together on projects of their own. Le Gouffre is the result of their first collaboration. Fun fact: This 10 minute short film was created for more than 2 full years. The dedication of the artists is so unimaginable.

There is something so deeply lovable about the two characters. The comfort with which they do labor. They are victorious in the beginning itself...the end is just the manifestation of the victory that they already had within them...its spiritual.

Saw this years ago and today I rewatched it... It's so cinematic and beautiful
It made me tears. As being a big supporter my father didnt revealed my family that he got a heart attack kept on visiting doctors without telling us paid our college fees and didt spent on his health. After his death within one week i got doctor bills under his bed sheet, later on i visited that clinic the doctor said your father got a severe heart attack while sleeping but suvived and his lungs got watery so also got asthema but he said he had 2 options either to pay his son college expenses or to do treatment to survive but being 67 year old he choosed his son's future and thats me. I can never forget this sacrifice and would say that those who think that parents brought us up so that we would take care of them in their old age thats not true parents love and do sacrifices for us unconditionally. i miss my dad 😟😟😟😟😟😟

I love it. Every subtle detail. It contains characters,a goal, a plan, obstacles, a climax, great music, set ups and payoffs, and even someone's character arc (the farmer) . This is amazing. This goes to show that storytelling elements can be applied even to the shortest, and they have to.
Truly a masterpiece, culmination of emotions of love, hope, friendship, kindness and at last sadness, everything in a short film of 10 minutes, hat's off to creator of this film.

It's incredible and simply superb. The way the girl ran to help them in the rain is very heart-touching. when all villagers join I felt thrilled to see their helping hands. The climax is very emotional and heart touching.
The two main characters’ facial expressions and gestures communicated their irrepressible spirits so strongly. A masterpiece of animation. ❤
Movies like these have more of an emotional impact on me then most 100+ million dollar big budget movies... Thank You.

Moral of the story:
1. You'll need to work hard to achieve your goal.
2. You may need friends to achieve said goal.
3. Your hard work will inspire others.
4. Other people might help you, if they see how hard you've been working for it.
5. If you fail, keep people looking up to you inspired.
Also moral of the story:
1. Some goals are not worth it, and may lead to an unwanted result. (Death of a friend, in this case)
2. You may need to make sacrifices to achieve your goal. (In this CGI, the sacrifice was a friend, though it was an accident)
3. There will always be skeptics who will think you are doing the wrong thing, but in the end, they may change their minds. (Like the bald farmer in this CGI)
4. To get to your goal, you'll need to achieve small goals first. Go step by step. (Like the stone column in the CGI, which was a small victory for the friends)
5. You will also need inspiration on your way. (In the vid, the inspiration was their supportive friendship and the farmers' encouraging attitude)
Moral of the story: They should have learned about bridge engineering.
Ill add two more, morals, don't build shitty bridges and have a back up plan.

I love how the miller, who never seemed to think that the men would be able to cross the ravine, eventually still helps them out in the end by holding one of the ropes.

What an inspirational story. He didn't want the villagers effort to go waste so he had to shoot the flare and that actually brought some joy to them though he couldn't make it to the other side. Lesson learnt, Appreciate others for their effort

Exposition:
Two young men who are exploring parts of the world and stop at a village
Initial Incident:
When they saw the road ahead which only disappeared because of the broken bridge
Rising Action:
They started looking for ways to make bridges from trees in the forest day after day
Climax:
They built the bridge by using the wind as an aid so that the bridge could climb with a cloth that would fly up the bridge, but by the time they crossed the unexpected thing happened that was with heavy rain even lightning struck the bridge until it caught fire so they didn't have much time to act
Falling Action:
When villagers help keep the bridge from falling as they cross it due to lightning strikes and storms make the bridge unstable
Resolution:
When a young man has lost the way to cross the abyss and puts hopes on his friend for the success of achieving their target goals
Denouement:
When the villagers see the smoke from the flare gun of their success

One of the most heart touching stories I have ever seen in my life... It killed me inside when he shot the flare. Oh my god this story was unbearable in the end. It really hurt but it's one of the best animation modelling texturing I have ever seen in my life. I loved the short film beautifully made my heart and my mind were blown the textured background and textures were just flawless. Loved it. Brilliant

This story is absolutely beautiful, but the detail that went into the music that most people won't even think about really adds to the beauty of this animation.
0:12 - 0:23 This melody will be the motif representing the friendship/bond of these two characters
2:46 - 3:00 The two characters have decided together to create a bridge, and this motif starts playing when they head out to get the wood to build the bridge.
3:29 - 3:43 Now the motif is playing when they started building the bridge.
7:20 - 7:50 Now the motif has been played three times before, and it has established that not only does it represent the friendship of the characters, but also the journey they took to get to this point. But now, the melody has a more sadder tone to it. The character looks back at the bridge, seeing all they have accomplished and all the great memories he made with his friend (represented by the violins playing the melody again at 7:35). But the character realises that this is the end of his story (represented by the sadder version of the melody overlapping the violins at 7:38), so he decides to fire his flare gun, not only to signal that they made it across, but to also signal the end of his life. So the music builds up and up, until he finally fires.
I would highly recommend watching the video again to be able to appreciate how well the music fits with the story.

One thing i just realized is the character of these two young men. One is optimistic and the other is rather pesimistic. But in the end, the pesimistic guy did the act so that the villagers knew the magic that being optimistic create
So the bridge is a metaphor for any journey that we try to reach. That's why it's never shown what lies on the other side. What was worth risking their lives for. That way, the bridge symbolizes any journey we go through without being specific. We just know that whatever the reason is, it must be something very meaningful and important. So much so that his friend did not regret dying and bravely accepted his fate and shot the flare gun to give people hope than despair.

I think they he was referring to the little girl who looked up to them. By suave la, I think he meant that save her courage. I don't think a sequel would be necessary as I feel it would dosrupt this perfect and emotional ending
