The word albatross is sometimes used metaphorically to mean a psychological burden that feels like a curse. An Albatross was a major character in the 1798 poem The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. In the poem, an albatross starts to follow a ship - being followed by an albatross was generally considered a sign of good luck. However, the titular mariner shoots the albatross with a crossbow, which is regarded as an act that will curse the ship. The bird is placed on the sailor's neck by shipmates to show the guilt in killing it. Therefore, the albatross can be both an omen of good or bad luck, as well as a metaphor for a burden to be carried as penance.

I mean, it CAN be if you utilize it right, literally anything can be used to tell a good story. Now the REAL problem with all that is that it's used often as a substitute FOR storytelling rather than an aide. A simple set of props to distract the audience, nothing more. In the right hands, they can tell a surprisingly beautiful tale. Or at least one with some semblance or meaning deep behind it.

I have a relative who gets drunk to escape the pains of reality, but his emotions can be too much. I can easily reflect his situation with this beautifully animated short. Those bottles of Jack Daniels sure are an alluring sign of temptation, yet only the foolish who believe it would bring peace would slam a bottle down, even though they will still boil with anger.
i love this animation, and i'm revisiting it a year later, and so i could hear everything he said, i put captions on. he's called "iceman" and originally (unless it's just the caption author choosing ice over glass) i thought he was glass, to signify the broken bottles and whatnot. but thinking of him as ice is different, because the sounds his body makes (specifically when he drinks the first shot and it flows through him) match ice so much more than the sound of glass rubbing together, as well as his shot glasses being ice means an always cold drink. nothing "in-depth" here, just a thought about him being ice rather than glass

@@bobbygeorge9181 Sorry bud, not sure if you're familiar with the area of addiction and recovery; I have been part of the recovery community for nearly 30 yrs, and although you might "stop using", the "addiction" is always there. For example...if you have all the symptoms and behaviors of an addict, and have done so for a long time, your body will now have a specific chemical in it which will trigger the "craving" of your drug of choice, should you ever go back to using again. That's the difference; you can be drug free for 30 yrs, and if you go back and use, just that one time is all it will take for the brain to be triggered into "craving" mode. So no...as I stated, "you can't be cured of the disease of addiction".
KEVIN'S SPIRIT COMMUNICATION & RESEARCH you cannot be an alcoholic if you no longer drink. If you do not drink you literally cannot be labeled as an alcoholic. You cannot label someone as something they no longer do. Former alcoholic is correct, if he does not drink he cannot be an alcoholic
Alcoholic is not a title that you are born with, it develops over time. And just like you became one you can also stop being one. It is a personal choice and many people have chosen to end their addiction, they are not called alcoholics after they give it up.
I learnt alot from this Each time I remember About this video I always comes back to watch again I am sure that I might have watched this video morethan 2k times 😢
They did an magnificent work with the effects of liquid like the water and alcohol. The glass man was also a good work of art. I can just ask myself how much time it takes to animate this well.
I'm seeing this for the first time. Awesome animation. the ending is quite twofold, since the bottle that is being thrown by the fisherman is reaching the bottom empty and when he was sitting with the bird it still had some liquor in it. That's not a coincidence, the old albatross might have actually succumbed to temptation.
Have you considered the open bottle being thrown and filled with water (or else it would float) just might have some influence in it looking empty of liquor?
I liked how the iceman held up a mirror to the guy showing him the endgame of what he is like and I think what was the last straw was the iceman showing disdain towards the one thing the old man enjoyed, the innocence of the bird.
Props to the writers, this was deep. It takes a good self reflection to know where you went wrong.

@@victorprohorov6201 Во первых: мультфильм не стоит дорого, если его делать своими руками за 90часов. Во вторых: других мультфильмов про алкогольную зависимость я не знаю. Так, можно сказать, что сюжет простой, а задумка оригинальная.
*No explosions
*No drugs (ok maybe drugs)
*No nudity

Just pure storytelling art! This is how movies should be made. A guy jumping from build to building falling in love and almost dying is NOT storytelling!
Olá valdemary
There’s definitely “drugs” lol
@@Psookpy Haha, I just noticed that. o.O
You were right no drugs alcohol is you legally sold
"A fragile man sees no other beauty than what's on his bottle".
Or what's in the bottle.
Comment like this make me want to be an alcoholic then go in to rehab to be sober again

I have a relative who gets drunk to escape the pains of reality, but his emotions can be too much.
I can easily reflect his situation with this beautifully animated short. Those bottles of Jack Daniels sure are an alluring sign of temptation, yet only the foolish who believe it would bring peace would slam a bottle down, even though they will still boil with anger.
i love this animation, and i'm revisiting it a year later, and so i could hear everything he said, i put captions on. he's called "iceman" and originally (unless it's just the caption author choosing ice over glass) i thought he was glass, to signify the broken bottles and whatnot. but thinking of him as ice is different, because the sounds his body makes (specifically when he drinks the first shot and it flows through him) match ice so much more than the sound of glass rubbing together, as well as his shot glasses being ice means an always cold drink. nothing "in-depth" here, just a thought about him being ice rather than glass
you back?

i just love that everyone is calling it a glass monster even though its called iceman
The iceman is the best depiction of the addicted part of the self.
Mèsi pou bèl animasyon sa
This is an amazing piece. Saw it when it first came out and have been back many times since. It really sticks with you.
I know everything about this, all of it right down to seeing myself as a monster. Thank god those days are behind me, I finally sought help and have been sober since 3/8/19

This is a great parable about those of us who have experienced addiction and recovered.
Deep! My father, my younger brother and one of my best friends could not stay away from the sauce. They are all dead now.
I absolutely love everything about this. EVERYTHING!

Nobody "use" to be an alcoholic; either you are or are not. There is no cure!
KEVIN'S SPIRIT COMMUNICATION & RESEARCH You can break an addiction your not stuck with it for life
@@bobbygeorge9181 Sorry bud, not sure if you're familiar with the area of addiction and recovery; I have been part of the recovery community for nearly 30 yrs, and although you might "stop using", the "addiction" is always there.
Every addiction feeds you with hunger.
Not FOOD.

They did an magnificent work with the effects of liquid like the water and alcohol. The glass man was also a good work of art. I can just ask myself how much time it takes to animate this well.
It give me a Coraline and the secret door kind of feeling
Yea like this guy is ok. He just want to drink but somthing is wrong

A simple and beautiful view of what addiction steals.
great job!!! Liquids are insane
this is fucking awesome, the dude just conquered his addiction
Besides the story , the artistic creativity captures my imagination .
شكرًا 🙏🏽 شكرا لكل جهد بذلته لهذا فيديو🌹🙏🏽
Every time I watch this..... The story for this is really heart reaching.
Well it was open so it would have got pulled out
Oh yeah no the bottle was already open before he tossed it so of course it emptied before it hit the bottom
Спасибо большое за мультфильм!
Решил сходить в магазин за виски...😉
I liked how the iceman held up a mirror to the guy showing him the endgame of what he is like and I think what was the last straw was the iceman showing disdain towards the one thing the old man enjoyed, the innocence of the bird.
Moral of the story...drink Gin, not whiskey.
