I surfed there as a young 14 yr old on summer vacation with my family. Growing up in Huntington Beach, CA it was a unique experience to ride a man-made wave in a freshwater pool.
Arizona will allow Big Surf to be torn down and the land sold but will keep some dilapidated tiny house on Central Avenue from being sold or torn down as historic preservation because some unknown farmers used to live there in 1920's? I'm so perplexed here.
This very sad about this water park and this wear I surfed for the Surfing with Nixon with those children with Autism and this is sad to also these children and they wanted it back.
And they are probably going to build another shitty open air shopping mall with loft apartments on it. Like we need another one in phoenix out of the thousands we already have. BTW, the only water parks in the valley are Sun Splash, and what is now know as Six Flags Hurricane Harbor, which used to be wet'n'wild, which used to be Water World. Hurricane harbor is in sad shape honestly and much of the original stuff from water world is still there but nearly half the parks attractions are always in a state of disrepair. I've personally never been to Sun Splash because I have never lived on the east side of the valley. Its a bit of a drive for me. They are building a huge resort and amusement park near west gate though that is supposed to have one of the largest pools in the country. We will see how that turns out.
Thank you big surf for all the childhood memories. Rest In Peace 🪦
So much for preserving history.
Right?!

Need another update man!
As I understand it there isn’t much to see T the site. I heard it was just a flat open piece of land with some construction vehicles on it.
So sad, a lot of childhood memories right there
Big surf was a huge part of my childhood growing up in AZ during the Summer. Makes me sad.
You’re not the only one. 😞
Sad day. Thank you for documenting this. 🙏🏼
Thanks for watching. Be sure to see the original, this is just an update.
sad loss to the world... I drive by here every day i go to work
So sad to see it go. I've seen a video of Big Surf being labeled as a historic landmark. I thought historic landmarks could not be torn down?
Apparently not if it’s the ASME designating it a historic location. Really sucks.
@@Desert.Sky.Adventures it does suck!
Sad to see my childhood Waterpark gone. So who thinks it's going to turn into condos like Papago Plaza and so many more old landmarks.
Most likely.

What’s there now?
Haven’t been back in over a year but last a heard it was just a dirt lot. Not sure if they have started building on it yet.
@@Desert.Sky.Adventures thank you
That’s so tragic, anything other than what they’ve done sounds better. Thank you for the update.
half a century gone just like that... all for an over exaggerated pandemic...sad
Absolutely right.

Sun Splash is fun. And it’s one of the last Bill and Teds filming locations that still exists.
@Desert.Sky.Adventures Yeah sadly, not that metro center is being torn down.
Que pena
