Isabel Martín will be giving a workshop at the Roots and Sprouts Festival in Leipzig (19. - 21.10.2018)

Friday afternoon: Introduction to the square frame drum and the adaptation of rhythms from the Middle East. Song accompaniment with the
square frame drum. (max 25 participants)
Saturday (ADVANCED): work in small groups for interested, advanced percussionists (max 15 participants)
Composition and arrangement for percussion ensemble. Advanced techniques with the square frame drum and adaptation of traditional rhythms from the Mediterranean Music cultures (Spain, Middle East).
Sunday (ADVANCED): work in the whole group with the other lecturers. Bringing together the previously worked out in the ensemble context.
MODAL MUSIC FROM THE MEDITERRANEAN REGION & MIDDLE EAST
On two weekends you have the opportunity to be inspired by various internationally known artists and experienced teachers and expand your musical horizon. If you are interested, there is the opportunity to develop your own pieces to work together with the group and the teachers.
The workshops are aimed at instrumentalists and singers, with and without a migration background, who play an instrument.
The teachers impart traditional melodies and rhythms from the Mediterranean region and the Middle East (Greek, Turkish, Afghan, Persian, Spanish, and others) and their contemporary forms. It introduces the characteristics of modal music of these cultures (Maqamat / Makamlar) and insights into improvisational forms (Taksim).
According to your instrument, you opt for one of the teachers and work with them as a group (ADVANCED).
You can either book one or two weekends.
On Fridays you have the opportunity to be inspired by the topics of the other teachers (INTRODUCTION).
Classes here are introductory, can be booked separetly and are open for all levels.
