But notice how in all the new T8 clips, the "screw" mechanic now uses attacks that hit upwards rather than sideways, and the "screw" animation is now different; instead of the sideways spinning one that we are all familiar with, the character now spins upwards/downards followed up by a similar animation as Raven's ff+3 hit reaction. I don’t think Japanese people and Japanese developers even know what mortal kombat is, kinda overstating Mk’s influence Remember that Tekken has sold more than MK and is more popular in all regions besides America
@@Squidward-jv7go what does selling more have to do with anything??? Also are we going to act like tekken dev are not apart of the esport community? You know the community that also promotes mk.
@@Squidward-jv7go It’s unpopular in Asia but in America AND Europe, it’s the most successful fighting game (at least mk11 was). I don’t necessarily think they said “We need to copy MK” though
I'll play. And I'll do my best to enjoy it for what it is lol But it looks like they cherry picked the things from Tekken 7 players liked the least (power crushes, cancels from the 2Ds) and doubled down on them.
One of the things I've always loved about Tekken is that it is so easy to pick up (whilst also being deep). You may have never played before, but once you understand the controls you can very quickly start playing games and doing decently well, and you can choose to build your knowledge of the deeper mechanics over time and get better, but you don't need to know the deeper mechanics to get started. This is why Tekken can be so fun when you play with friends locally, so much more than SF or Mortal Kombat. My biggest concern with the heat system is if it makes the game too difficult for new players to pick up... In other words, if you don't know how to use heat, you're going to be at a massive disadvantage and put off playing the game. This might harm Tekken more than the developers realise.
i have to disagree that it is easy to pick up, as someone who recently picked it up after only playing casually as a kid and i was overwhelmed, no sort of tutorial, infinitely long movesets, and you will get thrashed properly early on. I stuck with it tho and got through the hard part. SF is soooooo much more easier to pick up, this isn't shade on Tekken tho I love it.
@@Meiloorun cool that's a good perspective too. Maybe cause I played the other Tekken games a lot I found 7 to be relatively straight forward to pick up but perhaps it actually is more challenging for newcomers than I thought. Maybe the Heat System won't make it that much more difficult and it's more important for Tekken to improve its tutorials so people can find it easier to get into.
While the game looks amazing I'm not all that excited about some of these changes, I wanted them to take the power crushes out of the game, not buff them lmao. The heat system is definitely interesting, it kinda reminds me of the sparkling in DBFZ, allowing for more combos, a more offensive gameplay and allowing to make moves that couldn't combo by themselves be able to hit a full combo.
Screw was Tekken 7's gimmick - certain moves would cause the opponent to spin out and land on their back with their legs raised, allowing for a combo extension.
As I first saw it I wasn’t that down but I think I’ll be able to adjust, even more of a pressure focused style than I already have. I wanna see a kazuya focused trailer/demonstration now
They already mentioned they wanted to implement more weapons in the next installment. Hence Anna, Negan, Leroy, and Noctis DLC. 2. I like this change because it means moves that were useless before( I.e devil lasers) were not optimal in any way above a certain rank. Jin looks like mobile game I cant believe what happened from the original trailer,it was looking like the beat Tekken ever. This makes me want to play Tekken 7 forever
Personally after seeing this, i think alot of people are still gonna opt to play tekken 7. IMO these changes arent going in the right direction. I loved to toned and everything from the first trailer. But if movement is like TTT2 style, theres still gonna be some hope
Tekken 8 feels like it's going to be more of a 2D game with a mix of 3D game, they look at Akuma and Geese in Tekken 7 and be like "Casuals love this characters but competetive players hate it right? Ok let's just give everyone 2D elements to make it fair" I dont know about not staying faithful to the pure fighting aspect of Tekken, i thought that was the main appeal of it
In Tekken 14 all rage arts will have an entire speech about why they're so strong and their opponents are weak and then would be a full movie of them stretching, flexing, raging just to perform a single punch
This looks like tekken characters and tekken move sets with street fighter/Mortal Kombat mechanics. I understand the need for fresh content, but tekken has always been its own game, and that's where it's success lies. I hope that these changes don't change the identity of the game to the point that it becomes something else.
@@frankth3rd if this is the direction that they will take then pray that its for the sake of testing but if not then there is thing called "adapt". sure it does look and feel different but as long as they dont go too overboard then its still tekken just that it had a marriage proposal with SF lol

twenty some years and the characters still sound like they're punching garbage cans instead of people... This game reuses way too many of their previous assets.
This is not the direction i was hoping this game would take. Even longer rage arts animations? Break through defense? Pauls deathfist is a launcher? Their starting to make it look like streetfighter and not the old tekkens i knew and loved.

I think tekken 6 and tag 2 will remain my favorite games because it was nothing like it is now new tekken games have created this like street fighter aura to it thats why tekken had their own huge fanbase because we were able to learn and perform combos and learn about how each character has their own story and personality tied to their fighting style it looks like now everyone has an easy advantage to do a combo and rage move which takes the fun away of learning to do it yourself then competing fairly to master it,,I personally loved learning moves then testing them out in old tekken games I did average online but in tekken 7 I was able to adapt very quickly online winning a lot of matches witch becomes boring tbh,,I see where they’re going with this game but the combos look too overpowered now which can result in a quick match Paul doesnt even have his classic roar the ascetic is beautiful but some fans don’t really care about that but that’s just my opinion still looks fun tho.
Street fighter X Tekken did this. I hated the fact they crossed 2 completely different worlds one a 2d/3d side scroller & The other is a free movement to maneuver around the stage, not anymore. The fact they put Akuma in 7 let's you know the direction it would eventually go. Characters like Ryu,,Ken & Akuma couldn't fight well in a Tekken style cause of all the side stepping.
I'm surprised to say this, but I'm actually kinda liking where Tekken is heading. Adding weapons and flashier cinematics to their moves really opens up the door for guest characters they can add to the game that won’t feel out of place. Maybe now we can finally get that Soul Calibur guest character in Tekken
Just remove the chip damage, remove the heat halt when attacking, shorten RA animation, and do not reduce movement effectiveness. I think this game might be really good. Aggressive is not about keep attacking the opponent but adjusting the attack timing to catch the opponent off guard. Defending player is always on a disadvantage due to the skill, knowledge, and reflex check. Let's not make their life harder.

I'm liking everything so far, except the effects seem kind of blinding at times, and the rage art is something I'm still not a fan of. Since I mostly play this game against friends, I'm hoping that there will be a lot of customization in the options for matches. Like being able to turn off rage art seems like a relatively simple thing to do as a toggleable option. So we can play against each other like it's a T5 match, which was our most played Tekken. Looks interesting, I want to see how this plays out during live gameplay. I'm still excited for Tekken 8 so hopefully it will be sick. Though I do like that Jin's rage art is the same as the first trailer.

How when literal infinite maps exist in t7
Tekken 4 Airport: *Am i a joke to you?*
Could be an infinite that's why
and Heat combos will probably still reach the wall with no effort
Who's know ?that can be the part of story
Um, the Mortal Kombat influence is a bit much. Gonna try to remain positive but some of these changes seem like more of what people did not ask for.
Definitely agree with this... well said
That’s literally what I was thinking. Even the stage looks like mk.
I don’t think Japanese people and Japanese developers even know what mortal kombat is, kinda overstating Mk’s influence
Remember that Tekken has sold more than MK and is more popular in all regions besides America
SF is soooooo much more easier to pick up, this isn't shade on Tekken tho I love it.
you have no idea what you're talking about
@@Meiloorun cool that's a good perspective too.
@@salamander1782 cool story bro. Thanks for your insightful input
The more I watch Tekken 8 the more I start to like Tekken 7.

Y'all said that about Tekken 7 when Tag 2 and 6 were out

More like MK
King with that RKO outta no where!
At this rate, they might give him ALL WWE Finishers.
Paul Hasn't Had Hair This Cool Since Tekken 4
Let’s see it in the hands of some top level players.
I'm alarmed I haven't seen one clip with side stepping
That frame of Law pointing at Paul during the rage art is fucking golden, I love it
I love how it goes in front of lifebar HUD when Rage Art
Good pick up!
They could combine everything from the previous tekken games and just sum it up in this masterpiece

The death of tekken
When Jin did his move, I singed immediately: "Sephirooot"
I like how they finally changed both jon and Kazuya's clothes for the commercial. it was a nice added touch.
So they actually did replace screw... by changing it from spinny to flippy
Heat combos are going to be wild.
I’m sorry what’s screw? I’m a street fighter player but I’m gonna pick this up as well
Screw was Tekken 7's gimmick - certain moves would cause the opponent to spin out and land on their back with their legs raised, allowing for a combo extension.
Screw is still in the game my friend, the devs showed a combo with screw and the flippy bound mechanic
@@stefanooi840 Yeah, you can see it in the second trailer too.
@@SoulInajar It's basically how you extend a combo. Like using a v trigger to extend the stun animation of a guy and then continuing the combo.
Since kazuya and Jin have to use a resource(Heat system) to access their devil forms-- these moves can be buffed and actually be viable and lore accurate.
cant wait to see Bryan whip out a whole ass minigun again
What I like about this is that they enhance the character identity of fighters like Nina as a deadly assassin or Jack as a freakin' robot.
Just make another Soul Calibur game then

@@drabnail777 Define 'goody 2d ass games'.
What exactly makes tekken 8 more 2d?
Tekken 8 feels like it's going to be more of a 2D game with a mix of 3D game, they look at Akuma and Geese in Tekken 7 and be like "Casuals love this characters but competetive players hate it right? Ok let's just give everyone 2D elements to make it fair"
I dont know about not staying faithful to the pure fighting aspect of Tekken, i thought that was the main appeal of it

The ground destruction looks so good
the new Mortal Kombat looks great... not sure what i think about the new artstyle, but we'll see i guess

This looks like tekken characters and tekken move sets with street fighter/Mortal Kombat mechanics. I understand the need for fresh content, but tekken has always been its own game, and that's where it's success lies. I hope that these changes don't change the identity of the game to the point that it becomes something else.
That's because they got devs from street fighter and final fight to help on this game 🤢

Tekken is becoming an anime for children more and more. I like more old Tekkens for realism.
twenty some years and the characters still sound like they're punching garbage cans instead of people... This game reuses way too many of their previous assets.
I don’t like how tekken looks like mortal kombat and street fighter fused lmaoo

My thoughts exactly. I saw it and went "Wait a minute, this is a hell of a lot like Bloodborne's rally mechanic!"

So its official, Tekken is now souls like
This is not the direction i was hoping this game would take. Even longer rage arts animations? Break through defense? Pauls deathfist is a launcher? Their starting to make it look like streetfighter and not the old tekkens i knew and loved.
Hmm... the Max Mode/Heat Engage mechanic looks interesting. And a little frightening, if I hafta be honest.
Also, love seeing King doing the Diamond Cutter.
They are fast approaching anime fightings territory with those visual fx and cutscenes. :)

I hated the fact they crossed 2 completely different worlds one a 2d/3d side scroller
& The other is a free movement to maneuver around the stage, not anymore. The fact they put Akuma in 7 let's you know the direction it would eventually go.
Characters like Ryu,,Ken & Akuma couldn't fight well in a Tekken style cause of all the side stepping.
King gains super armor on his sprint? Command sprint?

I'm surprised to say this, but I'm actually kinda liking where Tekken is heading.

Besides TTT2.
I mean if you don't like rage arts and play with friends why don't you just decide not to use them?
@@lam9090 theres obviously people who dont like rage art and play against people who use it. the only thing you can say to that is "well then dont play the game". see how frustrating it is? some people prefer the original way tekken played its not that hard to have a separate game mode for the players who prefer traditional tekken. it makes you wonder why its a crime for people to want to enjoy a game nowadays. especially a game theyve grown to love for years. honestly the people who prefer the older style of tekken are pretty much just being ignored.
