I just found your channel from a comment by Boris Hajdukovic and I'm very glad I did. I watched parts 1 and 2 of this series on Filmic RGB and find it very helpful. Thank you!

Boris is master craftsman, I always learn new ways about solving a particular issue or getting a particular result from his videos. I'm happy he has referred to my video somewhere (hopefully in a good way), that possibly means I've done something right.

Nice video...I have seen so many people complain that the HR does nothing to the image but they are not tweaking the mask and don't realize that HR is really disabled by default until they do so....I enjoy the delivery and demonstrations...nice contribution the the DT YT library....

Thanks! Exactly, that's why I tried to emphasising that masking = "selecting". Some things are still a little bit cryptic, but I think the more videos surface as to how to use filmic in practice, the more intuitive it will become. Thanks again for the kind words!

brilliant idea that of adding a color cast to the blown highlights! thanks also for a very clear, concise and opinionated review of the reconstruct features in filmic.

Thank you, that's very kind! You are right, it did include quite a bit of my opinion... Sometimes one opinion leads to another; maybe someone dislike what I did so much, that they will go completely the other way!

Thanks for taking the time to explain the Filmic Module. I've viewed other tutorials in Fimic, and have come away more confused than when I started. Thanks again. I learned a lot.

It's tricky in the beginning, as it requires a slightly different way of thinking, than we were used to before. But once it clicks, it becomes second nature. It's worth the time investment though!

What a great tutorial. Your videos saved me a ton of time. Dealing with broken, overexposed photos in darktable was always a pain for me. Now I can recover them easily.

Music to my ears! Thanks for letting me know, that gives me confidence to make more tutorials. Thank you!

I found this very useful. I have been using Filmic for a while but the blown highlights have been a problem to deal with and I often throw away images because I just can't fix them. Now just one or two comments made in a slightly different way from the other excellent videos from a small handful of other DT users make sense of certain issues that I have been having. Thank you.

Great video. I've recently been letting filmic auto tune levels and adjust slightly from there. I've been getting great results. Its good to see someone else doing this and utilizing the rest of the module.

Hi, I'm very impressed with this module, so thanks to Aurélien and to you as well for this very well done series. Excellent work. I'm a total newbie with Darktable, I'm sure I'm not the only one, so maybe adding something like highlighting the buttons you pressed and or the shortcut keys would be nice. Is there a place to ask question about Darktable, say things like the new gamut mapping stuff for which I'm very interested in and especially on how does DT deals with that. It would make my day as you guys say. Thanks for the great work.

Thank you very much for the kind words.
The best place to get information about specific modules and functions in Darktable is the Darktable documentation. And I'm not being facetious. The documentation on the modules made by Aurelien are written by him in incredible detail.
There is also Darktable subreddit where poeple raise various questions. And, I must mention, the Pixls.us forum.

It's interesting that we can agree upon subtle color variations even communicated via a video on youtube. The human color perception must be much alike for a big bulk of people with different ethnic background.

Hello, Gus. I'm a bit late to the party, but very happy to have found your tutorials on DT. In the second "filmic" video, 8:12 min in, you moved the 2nd "color balance RGB" above filmic. This was to avoid affecting any changes to color which was done prior to "filmic" in the pixelpipe. I hope that's correct. Can you please help me to understand why the 2nd instance becomes a "display referred" adjustment?
    Thanks, Mike

      Hello Mike,
Never late to learn! So Filmic is a module that actually 'forms an image'. That module is what takes that 'scene referred' data, and turns it into 'display referred'. I dislike these terms, but they help to carry the message across. Same with the new Sigmoid module.
Also, In Darktable, if you hover over a module name for a second, it will tell you some information about the pipeline: Purpose, Input, Process and Output.
      Hope this helps, good luck!

Whenever I use Reconstruct in Filmic RGB, if I slide toward "Bloom" the clipped areas go dark gray, usually with horizontal lines like sensor pixel rows. It happens on all images I've tried which includes several different cameras. What could I be doing wrong? Highlight Reconstruction module is disabled in all case.

Difficult to say, there are many places where things might go wrong. I would suggest posting your raw file to pixls.us forum, people there are helpful and keen on troubleshooting (as well as tracking bugs)
