RE bed linens. I keep an additional set of flannel sheets for colder times (winter). The other exception for bed linens is if there are children in the household or the elderly w/ incontinence issues, a spare set of bed linens is really essential.
Good ideas! My dryer broke and I was able to wash and hang towels and permanent press. Sheets are different I have 3 sets of sheets for my bed and that allowed me to go three weeks before I had no sheets. Sheets do not hang dry inside as well as towels. My dryer was out for a month.
I love all your ideas. Everything looks so neat and tidy. I will say, I do keep an extra set of cleaning supplies in each bathroom. I have a gallon size square-ish pitcher that I keep my Toilet bowl cleaner, all purpose cleaner and glass cleaner in, as well as a couple of sponges. We have a large two story home and I have found it can be quite precarious carrying things up and down the stairs in my advancing age. LOL so I feel every way I can minimize that is for the better. I even designed and built a laundry chute so I could avoid having to carry laundry down to the basement.
I weeded out 2/3 of my cookbooks the other day. I went to Sell Back Your Book, put in each ISBN code, and got the amt they will pay me for each book (from $0 to $7/ea). Print out the list of books they’ll buy, and a shipping label (no cost to you!). Box the books up and drop at either FedEx or post office. You’ll get a check in a few days. Now, what to do with the nine cookbooks they won’t buy...
You are my kind of person. Love, love, love your organizing style with the acrylic bins and labels. I am always looking to declutter and follow the same sheet and towel rules.
Thank you so much! I consider decluttering my towels in the manner you said. But then I had a health issue and I needed some old towels to sleep on. So I’m keeping some more than that. But we’ve gotten rid of a lot of them. I’m going to check out Charlotte channel. Thank you so much
That is wise to keep some extra towels if you think you will need them. It can be good to have some older ones around for pets or outdoor activities as well.
2 towels per person plus extra for guests is a great rule to follow! Loved all of these Sophie! I am with you on wanting comfort now. As you get older you just realize the pain of shoes is not worth it at all😅
I'm glad that you guys did this collab. I started watching Charlotte just a few weeks ago. I'm excited to see your content as well now. 👋 new subscriber 👋
This is probably my favorite of your videos yet, Sophie! So many useful tips and am going to start decluttering all these things! Oh man, should show you both my mug and cookbook collection haha!
You’re incredibly inspiring, I get the feeling that you would be highly skilled at digital organising and managing your actions, tasks and time. I would love to see a videos on these topics.
Thank you so much for the kind comment! I do have one where I did some digital decluttering but I will plan to make one more on planning out my day and managing time 😊💗
OK Sophie, help me out here. I have 2 beds but multiple sheets. Why? I love color coordination. I will put a dark blue fitted sheet (Queen) with a light blue flat (King). So I have various colors. With towels I also have various towels and rotate both sheets and towels for usage. I know I have to get rid of more sheets, for storage purposes. Ahhhh this was very therapeutic!!! lol
CVS has medication disposal bins (ours looks like a USPS mailbox). I just bring my old meds there and drop the bottles in the bin. Check your local pharmacy to see what they do for old rX medications.
I think you read my mind😂 I was just standing in my kitchen earlier today figuring out which coffee mugs and travel mugs to get rid of. Going to watch Charlotte’s now!
@@SophisticatedOrganization I've been removing clutter for three years. I have two kids 11 and 16. My husband is a pack rat. And he's been pretty good of letting go. Even sentimental items.
We have like 6 towels per person for my husband and I 😂 however, I can’t trust my husband to wash them on time so that’s why we have so many 🙄 we typically run low even with our plethora of towels. It’s hard when one person doesn’t want to help do laundry so then it’s all on the other person’s shoulders which means having to prioritize what gets washed first/can wait.
Every family is completely different! I understand completely, I am typically the one who does laundry in the house as well so it can be difficult to get it all done with other competing priorities!
I can tell you are a newlywed with no kids, no pets or a husband that works on your house. We use our old towels for the dogs, our old rags for outside work or work on our cars so we can throw them away. Also, when you have kids you need more sheets for accidents snd messes. Finally, we have more sheets since we live in a colder climate and have flannel sheets do we don’t have to keep the house as warm.
Deborah Derden Totally agree -flannel sheets for the winter and two sets, also 2 sets for summer polyester and cotton as I don't have a tumble dryer ( line dry my laundry) and live in Scotland with all its various seasons!
Like I said, perfectly fine to have some old rags for cleaning (pets your husband that works on the home, etc.) As for bedding we just have an extra blanket that we add in the winter but use the same sheets, all up to personal preference. Agreed that kids may need one extra set.
Even with a spare, you never have to fold them if you leave one set on your bed and the other in the laundry 😜 but I wash our sheets weekly so I don’t mind letting an old set sit in the hamper for a week
My favorite mug is from Unemployed Philosophers: PINK FREUD, w/Sigmund Freud on one side, and the Pink Floyd rainbow through the pyramid on the other side.
We have more mugs than we need but I can’t part with them because our kiddos gave them to us. I can part with just about anything but the gifts our kids give us I can’t part with.
Sorry to hear you didn’t enjoy. I have lots of videos where all I am doing is organizing and decluttering and talking over it if you are more interested in that style!

Sounds like a few other people do the same, agreed that children and elderly can be an exception for sure!
Regarding sheets and bedding, I use cotton for spring/summer and flannel for fall/winter so 4 sheet sets per bed works for me.
Sounds great! Then you need a couple extra sets on hand!
Good ideas! My dryer broke and I was able to wash and hang towels and permanent press. Sheets are different I have 3 sets of sheets for my bed and that allowed me to go three weeks before I had no sheets. Sheets do not hang dry inside as well as towels. My dryer was out for a month.
Wow that is a long time to go without a dryer! It's tough when its cold especially to do some hang drying!

Totally makes sense especially with a multi-level home! Genius with the laundry chute!!

These 5 are so on point ! I had been holding on to those cookbooks for yrs but they continue collecting dust. It is time to let them go!
So glad you found these 5 helpful!! I just got rid of a bunch of my cookbooks too and haven't missed them 😊

Thank you Ashna!! Totally agreed on the shoes, not worth it!! haha
Extra mugs are cute with succulents growing in them on a kitchen window sill.
Great idea!! I am so terrible with plants but that sounds adorable!

Thank you Hannah!! Hahah as long as you use them!! 😉😉
Been decluttering for a few months. I'm excited for this list.
Yayy!! 🎉
All valid items that I need to declarer. Thanks for inspiring me to get going with this.
You are so welcome!

I love color coordination too so I get it! I do think there are exceptions in "minimalism" and decluttering for things you truly love, use and enjoy!!

Super smart way to dispose of them!
Thanks Sophie
Hey Sophie, thank you for those suggestions. I have plenty of cook books and mugs.
You're so welcome!

Look at you go decluttering!! I hope you love her channel and tips as much as I do!!
These are all great items to review and declutter even if the amount you keep may differ from the amount I think is necessary.
I totally agree! Great way to look at it Mary!
Hey Sophie, I came across your channel today and decided to subscribe- Best wishes from the UK 🇬🇧
Welcome!! That means so much to me, thank you!!
Here from Charlotte’s channel! Really great ideas! 😊
Yay! Thank you for stopping by!
Oh, mugs! What nuisances! I’ve even snuck them into office kitchens where I’ve worked and left them in the cupboards, secretly ‘donated’.
Hahah love that "secretly donating" smart idea!
I do the same! I work at an assisted living facility & the residents are always drinking coffee! Lol
I love that slide out shelf for shoes. Where did you get it?
Thank you so much! It is from Ikea and a part of their "PAX" line. It is a part of a larger unit that you can customize and build!
I just subscribed and been cleaning while watching ur videos
Yay! Thank you!
I get all my recipes on Pinterest or Google. Haven't had a cookbook in decades.
Even better! Goodbye clutter!

@@nicc8230 he starts using shirts as towels at that point 🤣
@@nicc8230 Hahah! Love this
Very true. 💛
Thanks for watching!!
With my cookbooks I just rip out the pages that I use👍🏼
That is a great idea!!
Good list 🥰
Glad you think so!

Those rags are so neat. I’m ashamed.
Don't be ashamed! I just try to wash fold them nicely when I give them all a good wash! 😊
Expensive beautiful shoes and cookbooks - Ouch!
Too much talking and not enough showing
