- ⬇️ Bernina Express Tips Below! ⬇️ WELCOME to 1st class on the BERNINA EXPRESS: one of Switzerland’s most scenic train rides!!! Going on a super scenic, panoramic train ride through the Swiss Alps was one of the top things on our To Do list when we were planning our Switzerland trip. Luckily for us, the Bernina Express had a route from the first stop of our trip, North Italy, straight into Switzerland!
We took this 4-hour ride in mid-October, deep into the Autumn season. The mountains were dressed in bright yellow, orange, and green fall foliage. The ride began with some rain and fog, but the gloomy weather soon cleared up. We were then able fully to soak in the beautiful autumn views of the Swiss Alps and countryside. The train was smooth, clean, and offered amazing panoramic views from its HUGE windows!
We rode the Bernina Express from Tirano, Italy to Chur, Switzerland. From there we took another train to our next destination!

➡️ The Bernina Express runs several routes. You can select which route works best for your travel plans. Check them out here: www.rhb.ch/en/...
➡️ Reserve seats as early as you can, even if you’re booking first class! Many tourists frequent this train and it definitely sells out! You can purchase tickets directly from the Rhaetian Railway (RhB) website: rhb.ch
➡️ Choose your seats wisely - we chose two isolated seats facing each other, towards the middle of the car. Benefits: we had a little section to ourselves, and maximized our 360 views throughout the entire car.
➡️ There are many travel forums that tell you which side is better to sit on - if you're torn, I agree that BOTH sides had amazing views! You can always stand up and view the other side as well. Everyone in our car was friendly and enjoying views from both ways.
➡️ Eat before you go on the train! The food cart is expensive (as is everything in Switzerland), and it's a long ride. They do serve snacks, coffee, and some alcoholic beverages as well.
➡️ Order the Grappa 😉
➡️ Lookout for the Landwasser Viaduct (shown in our video 3:13 - 3:21)! The dramatic and steep curving viaduct is a UNESCO World Heritage site and appears in the movie, Anastasia!
➡️ Make sure you have a lot of free storage space on your phone and/or camera. Everywhere you look is photo worthy! 😊
This is a train ride you don't want to miss - it's truly an unforgettable experience, to lounge in comfortable seats and soak in some of the best views that Switzerland has to offer.

Hello! I wanted to ask if the single side by side seats you guys sat on are on the left side of the train going to chur?
Or what your seat numbers are? I heard left is best side but in the seating chart, they make it hard for you to tell.
@@hyun808 Hello! I don't remember the seat numbers exactly, but for our seats at 01:28 - as the train departed Tirano towards Chur, these seats were on the left side. I believe we heard that left side was better too, but really, the views were great on both sides. Being just the two of us, we enjoyed having two seats facing each other, and not worrying about sitting next to anyone else. Not sure if it was our specific cabin but during certain scenic parts, everyone was getting up to take photos on both sides - but everyone was also really nice and not intrusive or bothersome. In 2019, my childhood friend & I carved out a few days from our Italy trip to ride on the Bernina Express (BE).
We bought first-class tickets from the Rhätische Bahn AG Railway (RhB) website for the Bernina Express round trip train rides from Tirano, Italy to Chur, Switzerland then after a few days took again the BE from Chur back to Tirano.
We used the BE train diagram on the RhB website & bought our 1st class seats in Carriage 2. During the train rides, we then saw the carriages ahead of us weave in, out & around. It was stunning!
We spent 3 nights in Chur, the oldest settlement in Switzerland. It is beautiful, we walked through the scenic Old Town, attended a free alphorn workshop & took a day trip to Arosa. Why I sounded like a dying elephant on the alphorn ... I am not Swiss :)

Yes we did. Tirano to St Moritz. We were in the 1st class and have the carriage all to ourselves. We did it during summer and found the view to be wonderful and scenic. We were thinking of doing it again but during winter, but after we saw your video we are having 2nd thoughts. We stayed in Badrutts Hotel in St Moritz which was also a wonderful hotel.

Our pleasure, thank you for watching!! 😊😊 From our experience in first class, BOTH sides had amazing views. The windows were so big you can see both sides easily. And if there was something really nice on the other side, you can just stand up and take a closer look! This is what the people in our cabin were doing. Everyone was really friendly too. Hello! I don't recall exactly, but it looks like from the video - we are on the left side as the train heads from Tirano to Chur. I will say, at least in first class, you have great views on both sides the entire time! If there's something cool on the other side, you can just stand to get a better look too. We will be going on first class in February from Chur to Tirano. The train website recommended not taking more than handheld luggage or backpack with you due to lack of luggage space on the train... I see that you had a large roller luggage... How did you manage? The train website recommended shipping the large luggage to Tirano 2 days ahead of the trip...
Hi there! Interesting note about the luggage - I do not recall reading about that - thought we did go in 2019, and were in First Class. Maybe things have changed now, where they need to limit luggage? Either way, we hope you enjoy! It's a beautiful ride 🚞 Cheers!

Thanks! We also purchased first class. We will probably use the luggage shipping services offered by the Swiss trains, which you have to drop off the luggage 2 days ahead. I will update once we come back from the trip.
September second week is what we have planned for.... should i expect any fog during this month? Our olan is to go from chur to tirano....from Tirana to milan .. is it feasible to book train ticket or we can easily get a cab or rent a car or bus?
We went in mid-to-late October, so I'm not sure if there will be fog in early September. For your trip, I'd definitely book some trains, as train transportation is very reliable there. But renting a car is quite easy as well. Have a happy and safe travels! 😊

I believe it was an early afternoon train. No worries - it was foggy only in the beginning; it cleared up in the 2nd half and we saw amazing views!! 😍

So if it's raining or foggy, there's always a chance that it will clear up and be beautiful...like it did towards the end of the video 😊 Cheers!

Hi there, thanks for the kind words!! Yes, we took a local train from Milan to Tirano. I'm not sure what time we left Milan, but our Bernina train left at 2:25pm for Chur. It takes about 2.5hrs to get from Milan to Tirano, and we had enough time to get lunch in Tirano before boarding the Bernina. Whatever time you choose for the Bernina, head to Tirano extra early just to be certain you won't miss the once in a lifetime experience aboard the train! Wishing you a safe and happy trip 😊😊
I'm planning to take this train later this year as part of an almost 3 week multi country trip I'm going on. I'll be hauling a standard carry on and a medium checked bag. Are there any issues or concerns with bringing luggage on board and is there space to store it?
Hi there! I think you'll be fine with your luggage. There should be luggage storage shelves in each train car, like the one at 1:17 in the video. Have a great trip!! 🚞

Is any free food or drinks served when you buy first class?
Hello! There is no free food or drinks served in 1st class; however, there is a mini bar that rolls around where you can purchase drinks. And for food, you can walk over to the train car that has a kitchen and snacks! Cheers 🚞
Is there any big diff between first and second class ?
Hi there! I don't recall the exact differences, but I do recall that you get more space to yourself in first class...and there are less people too. We wanted to be as comfortable as possible, so we did first class!
hello! if booked on first class, are we allowed to walk in another cabin just to experience the open air view aswell?
Hi there! Happy to hear you're booked for 1st class on the Bernina - you will love it! I would say check with the train attendant on board - they should be able to point you either to an open air view (if there is one) between your cabin and the next, or maybe if they're nice - will allow you to walk elsewhere to find the open window 👍🏽 Cheers!

Hello, yes I believe you can use the Eurail pass for the Bernina. We used the Swiss Travel Pass :)
