For sure, I think that's amazing and I really appreciate everything he's doing. It would be incredible to see Splatoon grow into a huge eSport like the FGC community or other big games, and I feel like this kind of effort to grow the scene is exactly what it takes to achieve that
The mechanic that enables this tech also works wonders with bomb rushes- hold ZL to squid, spam R to throw bombs and zigzag around with left stick to make yourself harder to hit. Particularly effective with Curling Bomb Rush as it inks your feet and makes you a path to swim in with every single bomb.
I use a pro controller. A couple questions: do you also use a pro controller? Do you use separate fingers to fire your weapon (middle finger on ZR) and fire your sub/sub strafe (pointer finger on R)? Or do you just use one finger to control between R and ZR?
okay so to recap, going into and travelling around in squid form has a lot of inertia both in starting in a direction and stopping, as well as going around tight corners. but using this tactic removes the delay resulting from all that, allowing faster maneuverability in the ink.
wavedash is a fundamental for melee, its more like a dashdance, giving unpredictable movement and microspacing while also being able to act out of it good video btw :3
THIS IS MEGA USEFUL IN SALMON RUN. I have to put it out there. Collecting eggs faster is always a good thing. Learn to do it for that mode if for nothing else. (you can also do the same thing with shooters with single shot actions so in reality it's an animation cancel... I call this "shotstrafing" and it's most useful for Splattershot Pro)
Thanks for sharing! I had know idea that you could do this! I've seen people sub-strafing in Splatoon 1, but had no clue how they were moving so fast. At first, I thought they had Swim Up, but that wasn't the case. Now I know how they did it. :) It's definitely gonna take some time getting use to doing the sub-strafing.
So, to do that repeatedly, do you hold R all the time and let go and start holding ZL real fast or use R to get out of ink and then ZL again to start swimming? How much slower does Ninja squid make this? Is this worth using with ninja squid, due to reduced swim speed and it making me less... undetectable?
If only I had known this earlier, the number of times I have been killed by a bomb just because I had the slow down time and couldn’t turn around in time.
"You can't do this with E-liter 4k" This is wrong, chargers and splatlings can charge-strafe because charging of any kind can immediately be cancelled(this includes the RM and stingray), just use ZR instead of R.

This Technique seems more esque to Super Smash Bros. Melee DashDancing than Wavedashing. Seems to have potential to be used as a mindgame tool in up-close situations.
I started using the Neo Splash-o-matic (I have 500+ hours with dualies) and I feel so useless without my dash, and now I have to master this, at least sounds fun and very useful for my gameplay in general, like the way I started using chargers only because of practicing aim
I would think it wouldn't work eith beacons and point sensors/disruptors but I don't know for sure. Also I think the burst bomb would definitely be the best sub to do this since it has such a low ink requirement.
It would be cool if you recorded the live gameplay and recorded voice over it afterwards, explaining what's going on. Explaining this live, in the moment results in a lot of uh oh like that oh oh...
Got to say, Sub Strafing is very handy in collecting golden eggs in Salmon Run. Worth Practicing there.

Nope! Even if there are some lost frames, they're insignificant enough to not drop number of bombs launched.

So this is why I see some inklings moving around so fast without swim speed up. This could probably be used very effectively in Salmon Run to.

Another good strategy is, if the enemy uses splashdown and you are in the damage radius, you can sub strafe out of it quickly.
So does this make Splatoon 1=64

Splatoon 3=brawl
And splatoon 4= smash 4

I've literally done this in the testing area and subconsciously known about it, but never actually considered using it in battle
you can also do this with fast-fire weapons too, in case holding R, holding ZL, and then releasing R in a split-second is too hard for you

to strafe means to shoot at low range in low-flying aircraft ( I had to look it up)
