I don't really remember what I did, but in guess it was something like that. Usually everything was smooth, but in one family I overused the boolptoptestingcheatsenabled true cheat and the game wouldn't take it. My family was kinda deleted and two stranger Sims appeared. They weren't part of the neighborhood, they just appeared out of nowhere and it was super creepy back then😂

Don’t forget that the Fears in the Wants and Fears system could cause corruption at random as well. I remember reading that’s why Fears were removed from future versions of The Sims 2 (Life Stories, Pet Stories etc). I think cos it would generate fears of things happening to Sims that already happened like them dying or cheating or something and if it already happened it would cause the game to slowly corrupt.

But now I’m really scared losing it all. What if I re-install the game, save neighborhood from the previous installation and add it to the new, will it still be corrupted?
Yes, once corruption is done, it's done. Unfortunately there is no going back. However, if you're not brave enough to re-start it all et didn't do anything that could really corrupt your game I can recommand you to search for "the hoodchecker" that helps to clean your game data that can be problematic, then you don't need to restart all your neighborhood ;) And you don't need to re-install your game, corruption affects only a neighborhood !
Usually it's the save file that gets corrupted so if you do a clean reinstall but then move the old corrupted neighborhood file into your Sims 2 folder, the hood will still be corrupted
Omg! I recently experienced the save while the sim on the phone. I had a sim talking on the phone with her best fiend and was struggling financially so made her friend move in with her but when I reloaded the lot the friend icon was there but invisible and eventually got deleted on itself so I loaded the lot multiple times and the same results so I just moved the family out and place them back in and fixed lol.

There is only one thing to do to still be save when your neighborhood is corrupted. Back it up! Go to Documents->EA Games->The Sims 2->Neighborhood . The Neighborhoods are numbered like they are appearing in game. That means Pleasanview is N001, Strangetown is N002 and so on. (Look into the Storytelling folder within the Neighborhood file and you can see if it is the right one) If you have a custom Neighborhood they will be numbered N004 and onward depending on their place in the neighborhood menu. I suggest to back them up once every 3 days but maybe you want to do it daily or so... Also keep every backup. Name it after the date of the backup or number them. Curruption can somtimes occure after months of gameplay because you accidently deleted a tombstone and now the game tries to use the data because one of the offspring has the same genetics as the dead sim but the game can't grasp their data. Simply replace the corrupted file with the back up and rename it correctly. If the whole game is corrupted a reinstall is in order. If you have mods back the download folder up. (You should do that even without corruption because mods can also cause harm when not installed or used correctly).
The maid thing happened to me in The Sims 3 with a genie. He didn't go back in his lamp and was basically a roommate of my sim. It was great and nothing bad happened luckily. He did disappear one day though :( and shortly after that my sim died of old age...bros forever (the genie stayed with my sim from young adult to elder)

To everyone saying that it's impossible to play without corrupting your game, it's not. You just need to have all of the anti corruption mods and once you know the things that corrupt your game, they're very easily avoidable. Use the anti corruption mods, clean your hood with hood checker, and use the batbox to clean up corrupt memories or trash from the memories, backup your game frequently and you should be good. Edit: also make a specific cemetery on your hood so all of the tombstones go there and then there's no chance you'll accidentally delete them, or that you'll save while a ghost is active. Don't use the "move tombstone" option, put the tombstone on your sims inventory, go to the cemetery and place the tombstone there yourself.
Luckily a lot of thing that cause corruption don't *always* cause corruption. Its not worth taking your chances once you know but if you've done these things (except tombstone duplication, talking to hula zombies and really bad ones like that) it doesn't automatically mean your game is corrupted :)
Apart from installing a mod that completely unlinks the graves and disabling ghosts. One trick I use to avoid corruption from ghosts/graves is to keep the graves in an NPCs inventory, in my case the Maid. I have over 900+ graves in her inventory and my game hasn't had any problems with ghosts and dead sims as long as the Maid stays as the Maid and not die. I do this by; when a sim turns into grave/urn I summon the maid via teleporters then make her selectable so I can move the grave into her inventory, then just unselect her and make her go away. Ghosts / Grave Unlink Problem solved! IMO. So basically a Maid in my game is like the assistant of the Grim Reaper lol ghosts are hella buggy so I prefer them "disabled" My current save will turn 2 years old this March! ^_^
is the maid really fully safe because (keep in mind i have a mod that makes it so npc's age when on my lot so that's how the sim died) i've had a nanny die from old age on my lot before so how are you going keep the maid from dying from something on the lot never be friends or if a sim is never have them stay
@@alexbain8606 Oh no I don't age my NPCs up! If I eventually get tired of them cos of how they look I just change their face, hair, skin, and name so it'll be like a new person, but I don't ever let them die especially with an "NPCs must die" mod. So for me the graves in their inventory thing works best and safe.
It's a miracle my neighborhood of 10+ years hasn't been totally corrupted yet after how much I used to mess around with this game. One of the neighborhood's notable features, though, is definitely the corrupted house that crashes the entire game when I try to open it
I have one of those in my custom neighborhood too lol, i made a household and messed around with cheats and now my game crashes each time I try to load up the lot. Don't have any back ups of the hood when it was still working either :(
After learning how problematic the gravestones are, I always make a graveyard (a public lot) for the town and send all the gravestones there. When I was a kid, I used to delete all the gravestones😂 Because the ghosts are annoying as hell! I hate that they may scare the living sims, causing them to cancel their task queue and sometimes have an aspiration failure (the two things I absolutely hate). Now I get rid of the pesky ghosts in a safer way😂👻
When I used the dating service, I got a hotel's housekeeper for my sim. Unfortunately, he could only interact with the housekeeper by talking and flirting so the date was not a success 😅 my sim tried to call her afterwards, but she was not in his phone contacts so he did not meet her again 😕
Another thing you shouldn't do is knock up a female mannequin sim. For some reason, the game crashes when mannequins go into labor. Babies aren't supposed to have the mannequin skin tone.
Ok, I've learned a lot about tombstones from these videos 😭. Is there I way I can remove them *safely* from my Sim's home and to a public cemetery lot? I don't want ghosts or graves on my property :(
Place a new community lot in the neighborhood and go back to your household, click the tombstone and select "Move this Grave" and choose the community lot that you've just placed down. This shouldn't lead to corruption.
*I do # 3 all the time* and it never messes up my game. I usually only play one or two "Hoods" - Pleaseantville and Belladonna because I like their backstories - and since I'm too lazy to create a bunch of families to make my hood fuller and more active (I like a lot of families in my hoods - they feel more "alive" - especially on community lots where my sims can meet and run into a lot more ppl) , I steal families from the other unused hoods, put them in the Lot Bin, and relocate them into my own Hoods. Never had a problem yet. I DID however have a problem when I did that to an OWNED business lot. One of my Sims in Pleasantview owned a Chinese Food restaurant in Pleasantview and it was doing really well but later I decided Downtown needed another Restaurant so I moved the Chinese restaurant to Downtown - (I left the Sim living in pleasaentview - just relocated his restaurant). But when I played my sim he didn't own the restaurant anymore...he still had the deed and the " first simolean" in his inventory but the lot no longer showed up as an owned lot. So I had to refurnish it and have him buy it again and start all over. *Also, #5 is true* . I just found that out recently and Im glad I watched this because now I know why it happened lol. I had just sent one of my sims to purchase a community lot on the computer and while she was doing that, the mother of the household went to answer the phone and while she did that I suddenly remembered some CC I needed for the new community lot and quit the game to download it. Then I came back in and when I entered the household, the mother resumed her animation of going to answer the phone and my game crashed. I rested the game like 3 more times and even paused the game as soon as I entered the lot so I could "Cancel" the mother's action of answering the phone, and even deleted the phone but it just kept crashing within a minute of me entering the lot. Finally I fixed it by moving the family out of the house and bulldozing the lot, then taking the copy of the house from the Lot Bin and replacing it onto the lot, and moved the family back in. After that, I made sure no one went near the phone while while my other sim was purchasing her community lot because I thought that being on the phone while a lot was being purchased on the computer was what had corrupted the lot. But now I know its because I saved the game while the mom was in the middle of "answer phone" animation.
Damn, I did half of the video this week in my new neighbourhood... That explains why my game has so many glitches and stuff ^^' Thank you for the warnings ^^

That housekeeper one reminds me of the Charlatan after you do "Fisticuffs" on him, LOL. He hangs around your lot for a while if you win a fight with him (can't remember if he does it if you lose as well). A lot of people freak out about it but it's fine, he will leave after a while. LOL.
The only lot with graves I ever moved is the house of fallen leaves in downtown but I always put it back on the original lot and have a copy in the lot bins
Thanks, I didn't know any of these. I know about the SecuROM issue, how to stop your game refusing to start due to the groups.cache file, memories ect. And there is always the trusty fixers of "Vincents sim modder" and the ffs debugger (bat box) those two have kept my sims 2 going for years lol.
Is there any special data for that sim called “Gretchen”? She uses a long black dress that is not in create a sim , so it’s unique to just her .. she used to stalk my sim a lot , I always remember that , she was creepy . Acted like the maid in this video except she wasn’t furious with anyone
There is the Diva sim that was introduced in Nightlife? Her name is randomly generated when a downtown is added to a neighborhood, but she does wear a unique black dress not normally accessable in CAS
I wish I had seen this in 2009.. I did almost everything in these "Don't do this in sims 2" videos :D Explains a lot of problems with my game back then.. Also some of my downloaded content used to flash in blue sometimes :D And adults were acting like babies, laying on the ground etc. Scary..
I can remember breaking my game by moving out incorrectly - when I went back into a lot that I'd moved a sim out of (that was unoccupied) she was still in the bath... I can't remember if I could control her, or she just got out and the taxi came - despite the fact she had since lived in a completely different house and had children... So odd. Also if I'd really mess around with the TofL&D, sometimes on the lot preview, it'd spawn a CAS with no face on the template. I just used to delete the family as it was so creepy.
One time, I accidentally bulldozed a graveyard when I meant to bulldoze the empty house next to it. Surprisingly, I haven’t seen any corruption yet. I’ve had much worse from bad CC in TS3.
Wait, were graveyards a thing in TS2 or are you saying you bulldozed one in TS3? I think TS3 has extra measures in place that keep even gravestone deletion from causing corruption; if the former, TIL that TS2 had graveyards, never gotten to play it before.
omfg, i just started playing the specter household and been saving while there were ghosts around cause i didn't know. that's 900000 tombstones omfg D; D; and that stupid ghosts keep making puddles everyone fffff--
One time I changed a community lot to residential why my sim was there, I forgot why, I know it was really dumb, could never play that lot again. I managed to get all household members back via add neighbor to family cheat, but that lot was never playable again.
I'm new to sims 2. How do I move a particular household to a different neighborhood if moving occupied lots to the bin causes corruption? I like playing one household only and when I get bored I don't play another household, I just move them to a new neighborhood.
Calling saving with sims talking a things that you never should do is a bit of a stretch. Yeah, it's not good, but it won't break your game, these sims just may stay invisible on your lot as so-called "off-world loiteres", they won't disappear, they don't get deleted, they're just kinda stuck and you can fix it with the Batbox(also called FFS Lot Debugger) by "Nuke... - Off-World Loiterers". Also literally all of the problems with graves can be fixed by installing nounlinkondelete mod which prevents deleting character files when you delete the grave, and even if it disappears you can spawn the grave again using a mod. Also you can just delete housekeeper with moveobjects on. It won't mess up anything, just removes her from the lot, not game itself.
then you also should not let kid-sims die, cause their ghosts are seen by the game as kids and all strange npcs come to your lot to take kids back home (which they can't take anywhere, so those npcs stay stuck on your lot forever)
I once misclicked and instead puting the family into the bin, I moved then in the lot bin. Replacing than didn't fix anything, the family she had were treated like strangers. But what bugged me the most was that she never was be abled to apear dead in the family tree! (I like my family trees!)
Gravestones I delete mine. You can move grave to community lot. I learned that later one. Also what’s with the bed? Lots and houses bin I did this. But I was able to correct with Sim PE. Didn’t know the other mods.
I believe the corruption with putting graves on the shelf was patched. And while their behavior is annoying, I don't think Housekeepers cause corruption, either.
Great video but just one question, moving occupied lots to the lot bin is the only way we can move our sims out of the neighborhood, so if we can't we do, what could we do instead?
@Ada Guedes Yes you're quite right! But I mean moving sims from one neighborhood to another, but now I think it is just better to leave them in their current neighborhood, and then move them to a sub neighborhood such as Downtown.
Definitely the best Sims game imho but it was so unstable and broken. I always knew you could corrupt the game, but I didn't think it would be this easy. but at least it's not as broken as Sims 4
@@lenarosic okay so i tested it and yes, you can build an apartment in a vacation subhood but i think you can't move Sims in, i tried a couple different methods and couldn't make it work. it might be possible but i doubt it
I once had Pet Stories, and man. I had no tombstone, was playing for, a year, almost. One day I open the game, everything's normal, then boom. MY HOUSEHOLD'S LOT IS GONE, AND ONLY THE HOUSEHOLD IS THERE. I thought I go apeshit, but then started over w a new family.... same thing happened. I quickly uninstalled after :/ the reason why this happened is still unknown
It's the Rally Forth business perk which lets your Sim temporarily boost the mood of their employees (and nearby Sims i think?) by shouting into a megaphone but the Sim who does it will have their needs deplete quickly and if they plummet too low they'll choke and die :(

literally install nounlinkondelete mod and that solves all problems with duplicating/deleting graves, and there are a lot of fixes for other problems
@@houseofmous it only works some of the time, sometimes Sims gossip about object Sims. Sims can bring NPCs home which will break your game.

Apart from installing a mod that completely unlinks the graves and disabling ghosts. One trick I use to avoid corruption from ghosts/graves is to keep the graves in an NPCs inventory, in my case the Maid. I have over 900+ graves in her inventory and my game hasn't had any problems with ghosts and dead sims as long as the Maid stays as the Maid and not die. I do this by; when a sim turns into grave/urn I summon the maid via teleporters then make her selectable so I can move the grave into her inventory, then just unselect her and make her go away. Ghosts / Grave Unlink Problem solved! IMO.
So basically a Maid in my game is like the assistant of the Grim Reaper lol ghosts are hella buggy so I prefer them "disabled"
My current save will turn 2 years old this March! ^_^
I just move them all to a community lot I never visit. This way they are out of the way too :D

is the maid really fully safe because (keep in mind i have a mod that makes it so npc's age when on my lot so that's how the sim died) i've had a nanny die from old age on my lot before so how are you going keep the maid from dying from something on the lot never be friends or if a sim is never have them stay
@@alexbain8606 Oh no I don't age my NPCs up! If I eventually get tired of them cos of how they look I just change their face, hair, skin, and name so it'll be like a new person, but I don't ever let them die especially with an "NPCs must die" mod. So for me the graves in their inventory thing works best and safe.

It's a miracle my neighborhood of 10+ years hasn't been totally corrupted yet after how much I used to mess around with this game.
One of the neighborhood's notable features, though, is definitely the corrupted house that crashes the entire game when I try to open it
I have one of those in my custom neighborhood too lol, i made a household and messed around with cheats and now my game crashes each time I try to load up the lot. Don't have any back ups of the hood when it was still working either :(

After learning how problematic the gravestones are, I always make a graveyard (a public lot) for the town and send all the gravestones there.
When I was a kid, I used to delete all the gravestones😂 Because the ghosts are annoying as hell! I hate that they may scare the living sims, causing them to cancel their task queue and sometimes have an aspiration failure (the two things I absolutely hate). Now I get rid of the pesky ghosts in a safer way😂👻
When I used the dating service, I got a hotel's housekeeper for my sim. Unfortunately, he could only interact with the housekeeper by talking and flirting so the date was not a success 😅 my sim tried to call her afterwards, but she was not in his phone contacts so he did not meet her again 😕
Another thing you shouldn't do is knock up a female mannequin sim. For some reason, the game crashes when mannequins go into labor. Babies aren't supposed to have the mannequin skin tone.
Ok, I've learned a lot about tombstones from these videos 😭. Is there I way I can remove them *safely* from my Sim's home and to a public cemetery lot? I don't want ghosts or graves on my property :(
Place a new community lot in the neighborhood and go back to your household, click the tombstone and select "Move this Grave" and choose the community lot that you've just placed down. This shouldn't lead to corruption.

*I do # 3 all the time* and it never messes up my game.
I usually only play one or two "Hoods" - Pleaseantville and Belladonna because I like their backstories - and since I'm too lazy to create a bunch of families to make my hood fuller and more active (I like a lot of families in my hoods - they feel more "alive" - especially on community lots where my sims can meet and run into a lot more ppl) , I steal families from the other unused hoods, put them in the Lot Bin, and relocate them into my own Hoods. Never had a problem yet.
I DID however have a problem when I did that to an OWNED business lot. One of my Sims in Pleasantview owned a Chinese Food restaurant in Pleasantview and it was doing really well but later I decided Downtown needed another Restaurant so I moved the Chinese restaurant to Downtown - (I left the Sim living in pleasaentview - just relocated his restaurant). But when I played my sim he didn't own the restaurant anymore...he still had the deed and the " first simolean" in his inventory but the lot no longer showed up as an owned lot. So I had to refurnish it and have him buy it again and start all over.

I just found that out recently and Im glad I watched this because now I know why it happened lol.
I had just sent one of my sims to purchase a community lot on the computer and while she was doing that, the mother of the household went to answer the phone and while she did that I suddenly remembered some CC I needed for the new community lot and quit the game to download it. Then I came back in and when I entered the household, the mother resumed her animation of going to answer the phone and my game crashed. I rested the game like 3 more times and even paused the game as soon as I entered the lot so I could "Cancel" the mother's action of answering the phone, and even deleted the phone but it just kept crashing within a minute of me entering the lot. Finally I fixed it by moving the family out of the house and bulldozing the lot, then taking the copy of the house from the Lot Bin and replacing it onto the lot, and moved the family back in. After that, I made sure no one went near the phone while while my other sim was purchasing her community lot because I thought that being on the phone while a lot was being purchased on the computer was what had corrupted the lot.
But now I know its because I saved the game while the mom was in the middle of "answer phone" animation.
Damn, I did half of the video this week in my new neighbourhood... That explains why my game has so many glitches and stuff ^^'

Okay but why are child ghosts creepier than teen+ ghosts? Even their shouts sound much more ominous.
I think it's because their facial animations are frozen so they just look even more uncanny

That housekeeper one reminds me of the Charlatan after you do "Fisticuffs" on him, LOL. He hangs around your lot for a while if you win a fight with him (can't remember if he does it if you lose as well). A lot of people freak out about it but it's fine, he will leave after a while. LOL.
The only lot with graves I ever moved is the house of fallen leaves in downtown but I always put it back on the original lot and have a copy in the lot bins

And there is always the trusty fixers of "Vincents sim modder" and the ffs debugger (bat box) those two have kept my sims 2 going for years lol.

There is the Diva sim that was introduced in Nightlife? Her name is randomly generated when a downtown is added to a neighborhood, but she does wear a unique black dress not normally accessable in CAS

I wish I had seen this in 2009.. I did almost everything in these "Don't do this in sims 2" videos :D Explains a lot of problems with my game back then.. Also some of my downloaded content used to flash in blue sometimes :D And adults were acting like babies, laying on the ground etc. Scary..
I can remember breaking my game by moving out incorrectly - when I went back into a lot that I'd moved a sim out of (that was unoccupied) she was still in the bath... I can't remember if I could control her, or she just got out and the taxi came - despite the fact she had since lived in a completely different house and had children... So odd. Also if I'd really mess around with the TofL&D, sometimes on the lot preview, it'd spawn a CAS with no face on the template. I just used to delete the family as it was so creepy.
One time, I accidentally bulldozed a graveyard when I meant to bulldoze the empty house next to it. Surprisingly, I haven’t seen any corruption yet. I’ve had much worse from bad CC in TS3.
Wait, were graveyards a thing in TS2 or are you saying you bulldozed one in TS3? I think TS3 has extra measures in place that keep even gravestone deletion from causing corruption; if the former, TIL that TS2 had graveyards, never gotten to play it before.
@@miles6492 Graveyards were added to TS2 in Nightlife. You could move graves there so they wouldn't haunt your sims.

One time I changed a community lot to residential why my sim was there, I forgot why, I know it was really dumb, could never play that lot again.
I managed to get all household members back via add neighbor to family cheat, but that lot was never playable again.
I'm new to sims 2. How do I move a particular household to a different neighborhood if moving occupied lots to the bin causes corruption?
I like playing one household only and when I get bored I don't play another household, I just move them to a new neighborhood.

Calling saving with sims talking a things that you never should do is a bit of a stretch. Yeah, it's not good, but it won't break your game, these sims just may stay invisible on your lot as so-called "off-world loiteres", they won't disappear, they don't get deleted, they're just kinda stuck and you can fix it with the Batbox(also called FFS Lot Debugger) by "Nuke... - Off-World Loiterers". Also literally all of the problems with graves can be fixed by installing nounlinkondelete mod which prevents deleting character files when you delete the grave, and even if it disappears you can spawn the grave again using a mod.
Also you can just delete housekeeper with moveobjects on. It won't mess up anything, just removes her from the lot, not game itself.

Sometimes I feel like Sims 2 isn’t actually a game, it’s just a fun collection of glitches
then you also should not let kid-sims die, cause their ghosts are seen by the game as kids and all strange npcs come to your lot to take kids back home (which they can't take anywhere, so those npcs stay stuck on your lot forever)
I once misclicked and instead puting the family into the bin, I moved then in the lot bin. Replacing than didn't fix anything, the family she had were treated like strangers. But what bugged me the most was that she never was be abled to apear dead in the family tree! (I like my family trees!)
But I love the randomness that this games gives when corrupted.

I believe the corruption with putting graves on the shelf was patched. And while their behavior is annoying, I don't think Housekeepers cause corruption, either.
Great video but just one question, moving occupied lots to the lot bin is the only way we can move our sims out of the neighborhood, so if we can't we do, what could we do instead?
@Ada Guedes Yes you're quite right! But I mean moving sims from one neighborhood to another, but now I think it is just better to leave them in their current neighborhood, and then move them to a sub neighborhood such as Downtown.

@@lenarosic okay so i tested it and yes, you can build an apartment in a vacation subhood but i think you can't move Sims in, i tried a couple different methods and couldn't make it work. it might be possible but i doubt it

I once had Pet Stories, and man. I had no tombstone, was playing for, a year, almost. One day I open the game, everything's normal, then boom. MY HOUSEHOLD'S LOT IS GONE, AND ONLY THE HOUSEHOLD IS THERE. I thought I go apeshit, but then started over w a new family.... same thing happened. I quickly uninstalled after :/

It's the Rally Forth business perk which lets your Sim temporarily boost the mood of their employees (and nearby Sims i think?) by shouting into a megaphone but the Sim who does it will have their needs deplete quickly and if they plummet too low they'll choke and die :(

EA abandoned the game and aren't selling it anymore, the only legit way to get it now is if you find a listing on Amazon or eBay
