I'm actually very surprised because I've seen many emersed anubias setups with contradictory instructions, the only instruction shared by all people being that anubias should NOT be planted in soil as it would kill them, yet your setup is by far the most luxuriant results.
I watched your video some weeks back and was hesitant to do something like this. Fast forward 3 weeks later, I have now 4 plastic containers of both A. Nana and Nana Petite. These were mostly from 2 driftwoods that had overgrown Anubias. Mine is not planted as dense as yours. Yes, they are growing, in fact one plant even flowered! Thank you for sharing.
Nice video, but as a plant lover you should maybe show that ponytail palm some love. DON'T put in an aquarium, but give it some of that nice fertiliser and remove the dead leaves. I can almost hear it begging for some attention.

You should actually wait with removing the yellowing leaves until the plant has taken out everything it wants. It has reasons why the plant decided to take nutrition out of the leaf and transport it somewhere else. Therefore it is always a good idea to let the plants just do their thing. The nutrition absorbed is a bigger advantage then the disadvantage of shading other greener leaves. Otherwise it is not always the best idea to mix fertilizers together and keep them mixed for a longer period of time. Especially when the light can hit the liquid. You should always mix up a fresh portion and use an opaque bottle so that the fertilizers dont react with each other and the sunlight. I really enjoying your channel and already adapted some of your techniques as well.
I set an emersed setup up my self after watching one of your videos on this topic Although it hasn't really had time to make that much progress regarding plant growth I still enjoy it every time I spray it down Thx for the idea and great videos :)

There was this very shallow plastic tote in lowes I saw it I can get ppl who seem interested in buying stuff I'll buy it and a set of grow lights the tote was rather large so I plan to do , pearl weed,subwassertang,monte carlo,pennywort,dwarf sag, anubis and java fern

Hiya Wid - I am a details person and this was just perfect! Your anubias look fantastic :) You really have this nailed down! I may have missed this detail but where did you get the initial plants? There are so many! Are there a couple of large mother plants that you trim from to get all of these? How long does it take for a box to get full like this - or are you packing a ton of plants and cutting in the box? I will check other videos to see - if there a couple of specific ones in addition to the links that you can point me to, that would be great! I really loved this!

I essentially grew all this anubias from a few initial plants years ago throughout my years of doing planted aquariums. It wasn't until I really started doing emersed setups and propagating my plants that I got so many plants though. I don't really have a good answer for how long it would take to fill a tub like this but I'm hoping to do some tests in the future to figure out an average growth rate (I'm a nerd I cant help it) 😂
Hey bro cool video. Fyi if you wanna fertilize for cheap just buy some normal garden variety liquid fertilizer or even powder from your local big box store. Save your expensive aquarium ferts for your actual submerged tanks.

I have been a little concerned with making sure mosquitoes do not breed in an outside immersed tub. It looks like your soil is damp but does not have pools in which mosquitoes can grow. You also mention that we can use saran wrap which should prevent mosquitoes from getting in. I currently keep aquariums outside, but I have fish in them to prevent mosquitoes from breeding in them.

I'm definitely gonna have to start my own set up now Have you ever had to deal with mold growing inside your tubs? I know thats an issue that can happen with dry starts. Also how easily does anubias and java fern convert to their submersed form? Do they experience much melting or anything like that?

Hi, nice video. I've been not so lucky with anubias nana. All my newly bought anubias nana melted and died. I've put them in my aquarium and after a few days the rhizome melted. Do you know what is causing this? Do they like soft water?
Thank you! I'm sorry you had that experience with anubias! I'm not sure what could have happened, they can grow in a wide range of conditions so I don't think it has to do with the water not being soft enough for them. Is it possible the rhizome was damaged or the plant was accidentally dried out prior to going in your aquarium?

Hey Hamizan, I generally don't have a lot of fungal growth in these set ups. After a little while you will start to see some small critters growing such as spring tails and if you start having fungal growth these critters will help control it. If it gets really bad you can try raising the water above the soil and leaving it like that until the fungus dies back then draining the water back down. Hope that helps!
Hi, i have one container setup but no cover on the top of it, is it ok to leave their leaves dry? But i constantly keep the substrate submerged for a couple centimeters.
I have some anubias gigantea, not doing so well in my fish tanks. I've read this plant grows better emersed. I have them glued to lava rock. Can I just take the rocks place them in a bowl so that the water is covering the roots?
Hey Andrew, that will probably work but you will have to add some fertilizers in the bowl of water (if you aren't planning on using soil) for the anubias and also it is important that the leaves don't dry out so if the bowl is large enough to keep a lid on it to retain the humidity that would be best! So if I were to remove my anubias from my tank and start to grow them out of water, will they melt back and regrow well? And if I were to submerse some big bunches off of the emersed mother plant, would they melt back and regrow well when submersed?
How fast exactly does it grow emmersed? I am setting up a new 55g in the next few months. How much time does it take to grow a baby into a viable plant and is there any die back with these or Java fern when you move the plants into an aquarium?
Hey thanks for watching Andrew! It's hard to say how fast they grow, I'm going to do some tests when I propagate these plants to track how fast they grow but I would guess each plant grows around one new leaf every 1-2 weeks. I wish I took some pictures when I set these tubs up so I could compare to get a better idea. As for die back when converting to submerged I usually don't get any with anubias and you can sometimes get some with java fern but I find the higher you keep the humidity and the more misting you do the better they convert. Hope that helps
You plant them by putting the Rizome on top of the soil and light press it into it without it getting buried. That way it will not rot. It will only rot if you put it IN the earth. You can actually use substrate like lava rock that is so coarse that the plant wont get buried even if you overdo it on the watering.

In other circumstances Nitrogen is good for growth, phosphorus is for flowering... is that not the case with aquatic plants..?

Keep the rhizome above the soil. It's need to be in light or it will eventually die. Photosynthesis happens in the rhizome.
How fast exactly does it grow emmersed? I am setting up a new 55g in the next few months. How much time does it take to grow a baby into a viable plant and is there any die back with these or Java fern when you move the plants into an aquarium?
Hey thanks for watching Andrew! It's hard to say how fast they grow, I'm going to do some tests when I propagate these plants to track how fast they grow but I would guess each plant grows around one new leaf every 1-2 weeks. I wish I took some pictures when I set these tubs up so I could compare to get a better idea. As for die back when converting to submerged I usually don't get any with anubias and you can sometimes get some with java fern but I find the higher you keep the humidity and the more misting you do the better they convert. Hope that helps

So if you grow, say, Anubias emerged, isn’t there die-off when you put em in a tank? If so, how significant is it? Or is this a non-issue?
How do you plant them on soil? Rizome will rot if they planted in soil...plz give sugesstion about plantation process
You plant them by putting the Rizome on top of the soil and light press it into it without it getting buried. That way it will not rot. It will only rot if you put it IN the earth. You can actually use substrate like lava rock that is so coarse that the plant wont get buried even if you overdo it on the watering.

That being said, it seems like anubias is in high demand (at least where I'm from) so there is definitely money to be made with setups like these! 😀
Can you apply your liquid fertilizer to your terrestrial plant on the window ? It looks quite sad.
Nice..I’ve always wondered what substrate to use in emersed setup. What’s the ambient temperature of the room they’re grown?
Do you put plastic lids on the setups?

Do bucephalandra need iron, potassium dosing? Can the normal green variety grown without any dosage? Like anubias? My anubias are doing good without and CO2 or mineral dosage.. Just good lighting.. Flowering is based on light cycle photo period .
Don't add phosphate and micro/iron into the same bottle. They'll form insoluble salt that the plant can't use.

Probably compacted roots and not enough nitrogen is the cause of chlorosis in your plants.
