    Great review Matt. The first I have seen to properly convey what I loved most about my first gen Leaf - namely that they are just really fun to drive. Good too that you honestly covered the drawbacks, those being the charging infrastructure. But more chargers are popping up all the time. I was happy to accept one of two frustrating journeys a year for hundreds of punchy short journeys. The only thing you missed was the joy of watching the Leaf defrost itself from the comfort of your lounge! Can't wait to try this new model.

    Most EV owners charge from home. We pay 5p per KW for electric and on my 30kw LEAF that works out at around £1 per day for around 80 miles. Remembering you never use all 30kw every day. I used to run a V8 petrol Range Rover & one tank of fuel would cost me £100 per week. As you can see the cost savings are massive. Plus no tax, no repairs or much servicing. The best part however is the feeling you get when driving past petrol stations & watching other drivers emptying their wallet into fuel tanks!
    The world will be a better place when nobody’s driving around in polluting cars or sat outside school pumping fumes out for children to breath.

    I don't understand why the government has allowed companies to monopolise the charging market with subscription fees. The EU should have made one connector valid in Europe. These two things, along with only one charging point within twenty minutes of my house and work puts me off electric. I would commit today if those issues were fixed. Faster charging would also be a bonus - if we can get to the five minutes to fill up with fuel there won't be fossil fueled run cars on the road!

    I had the chance to drive one of these recently. A really easy to drive car and very quiet. It has some decent "get up and go" when you put your foot down, well if you want to sacrifice the range. When sitting in the back and on a bumpy back road the road noise is a bit "boomy" but not too bad if you aren't doing long journeys and sitting in the back. A cool car overall.

      We have these 3 connectors (plugs) for quick charging here in Norway and it’s really not an issue. Tesla runs their own network, and the rest of the companies offering charging all have the two standard ChaDeMo and CCS connectors on all of their chargers. But ChaDeMo is slowly dying off in newer cars with Nissan being one of the slow ones to move to CCS.

    In my country, electricity cost HK$1.2/ KWH, the petrol costs like $HK17-19/L (depends on oil company).
    If we use EV, they cost is around $0.2-0.3/km (or GBP$0.019-0.029 / km). On the other hand, even with the best fuel economy Prius, it still costs $0.7-0.8/ km(or GBP$0.068-0.077/km). Makes a lot more sense to own EV here. And then things like registration fees, tax, maintenance are cheaper as well.
    One drawback is charging station is still not enough, but not none however.

      A petrol car would have to get somewhere around the 160mpg mark to match an electric on running costs. In a leaf 1 kWh is about 4 miles, so if you pay 14p/unit for power that's 3.5p/mile. If petrol costs £1.30/litre or £5.91/gallon - to reach 3.5p/mile you'd have to go 168 miles on a single gallon. Combustion engines can't touch EVs for efficiency. Even a 2 tonne Tesla Model S gets 3 miles per kWh.

    EVs are definitely the future but its not there yet. The whole process of charging and actually finding these stations is a nightmare and does change your whole travelling route. I think a hybrid is the best option right now . Range anxiety is the worst so get a hybrid if you drive daily or for long distance.

      craigix maybe in certain places yes but not everywhere and thats guaranteed. Also its the process...stopping by a station for 45min to hours to get a charge. You will have to plan in advance..with that you cant really travel anywhere far and to maximise range youll definitely be in discomfort with no heater or ac and limited electronic use.

    Very honest on the efficiency. When you work out an average home tariff and drive one of these like you would an equivalent ice they are much closer to a modern diesel. Ignoring all tree hugging purely talking mpg or kW equivalent. I have a 1.6 diesel civic, and that do average 82-91mpg everyday on the way to work with a range 5 x what the leaf does. Takes me about 3 minutes to fill it too

  • @leexgx
    @leexgx 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Guess they forgot mention issue with fast charging stops working after 2 charges per day (as the currant leaf lacks a cooling system for the batteries, even thought it has larger battery then older leaf so thus is a major cost cutting fail) because of that the older leaf actually has more range because its fast charging never cuts off even if you have to do it more per day on a very long trip (its been tested)

  • @jadeyfamous
    @jadeyfamous 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I can’t believe that car makers are still putting out cars with bulbs for headlights. Honestly for the amount of money people are expected to pay for a modern car you’d think they would put led running lights as standard on all trims.

    • @marksawyer6242
      @marksawyer6242 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      daria morgendorffer I wouldn't be so keen to have LED headlights. Light bulbs cost a few pounds and you can replace them yourself. If your led headlights fail they cost hundreds of pounds to get replaced, plus it's not a DIY fix, so you will be paying through the nose if it out of warranty! Happened to a friend, Mazda dealership wanted about £300 to replace 1 LED brake light!

    • @GAMEVIDSnorwegian422
      @GAMEVIDSnorwegian422 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      LED headlights and brake lights is some car manifacturers have to change on warranty, ive never had a problem with my 2011 prius, full LED driving lights front and rear, no problem what so ever. LED lights should be mandatory on all new vehicles.

    • @marksawyer6242
      @marksawyer6242 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Gaming Norwegian warranty only lasts 3 or 5 or 7 years depending on the manufacturer. After that it's your problem. All these modern technologies then become expensive faults waiting to happen. I really don't get the appeal of LED headlights. Am I missing something? What's so great about them?

    Well the difference is that you can have the tankstation in your front yard anywhere. Second thing: I have a lot of solarpanels on my roof. So that is point 2: I have way more solarpanels than I use currently (10.000 vs a current use of 4000). So I charge my car with the solarpanels. The panels cost me very little since it was supported by the company where I work for. The end result is that the cost per trip are really next to zero in 95% of the trips. Easy. The cost I save over a year are near 2000 euro just for the energy needed to drive the car. That is pretty substantial.

      Average driver does 21 miles a day. which would add up to once a week charging. Also, it's designed to be charged every night (so unlike a petrol car where you go out of your way to fill it up, you wake up with a full charge and only ever need to charge outside the house if your trip is more than 150 miles). For me, thats once a year, and seeing as this process saves over 1000 quid in fuel costs (taking into account electricity) and having no road tax, a single 45 minute stop isn't hard to swallow (plus, Nissan fast chargers are pretty much at every main exit down the motorway from Scotland to England).

    We have had the new leaf for over a year now, we live in Stoke-On-Trent and drive to Cornwall very regular, 2 rapid charges, never had issues.
    Done 9000miles and cost around £200, charge at home every night, so always full in the morning, the driver assist technology is fantastic, as you very rarely feel tired after a long drive, very safe, not for everybody obviously. the £30000 price tag soon drops down after government grant and running costs compared to a petrol/diesel, reality the car only costs around £21000.

    You can set the temp for it when you get back in, big screen for gps, loud sound system, cameras etc etc, so plenty of battery draining devices.
    Funnily enough none of these things bother me in the least, I've got mirrors, I dont live in the artic of North Africa so rarely get too hot or to cold, if I do I can open and close window.
    I'd prefer all this power draining and extra weight equipment was removed to allow a longer running time.
    I'd simply charge at home, not likely to go further than 150 miles a day as I'm not a long distance salesperson.
    I might consider one in the next couple of years once the prices are driven down

    I have an original 2011 Leaf that is still going strong. I still get full charge bars and have lost about 13% of my range over the seven years of use because I alway insure I have less than 80% charge when the car is parked overnight). Maintenance costs for this car is so much cheaper than combustion-based cars (in total I've spent under $500 - one flat tire, replacing the accessory battery, plus annual battery check). For short trips (95% of my use) this car is unbeatable. Long trips I take my Harley :-)

    This could be my favourite electric car because of its striking design, a practical boot due to batteries located under the rear seats, and ground breaking technology.
