Thanks for the assist Rick. Well done on your Hurst Olds show and tell! Ill be back to Bernardston Auto Wrecking by mid February. Thanks again, Steve Magnante
It's so great to see your post, Steve. I am so happy to see it, knowing you are truly on the mend. I have enjoyed your videos in the past, but only recently subscribed to your channel, to show support and help keep the channel going. The guest hosts have been doing a great job in your absence, but there's nothing like the real thing. Happy Holidays and an even better New Year!
In my own greed, I was really hoping to see Steve himself. However I hope he is getting along okay and wish him nothing but the best. Can't wait for your return and I don't care how long it takes. I just want you healthy and happy.
Great to see you guys keeping Steve’s channel alive. Hopefully we will get to see him soon. And Merry Christmas to you and all the rest of the guys keeping it alive.
Thank you for doing this! Both for our education and for Mr Magnante. You are so right - around here that would be considered "rust free". We've heard Mr Magnante is doing better and looking forward to him being 100%. ~ Chuck
Thanks Rick for pitching in for Steve. Great info and content and thanks again for keeping the ball rolling for Steve. Hoping he's coming along nicely as he's a wealth of information and a treasure to our automotive community.
Rick, you're such a great friend to Steve, and you should know all of us who subscribe to Seteve's channel appreciate your efforts for helping out Steve and keeping the content going so we can all come and support Steve while he recovers! God Bless and Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy & Healthy New Year!
Was hoping to see Steve up and going, giviing us a early Christmas present. To Steve and his family Merry Christmas to you all and we will continue to pray for a full recovery!
As cars like this age, some of those repairs we'd never consider fixing start looking easier and easier. The tires on this car are older than the late '80's and it looks like it has sat since about then, so probably not high miles. Despite horsepower ratings, there was still a lot of power difference between a 350 and 455 Olds. Torque is the word that gets things rolling. Hope Steve is doing well with his recovery.
Thanks Rick for doing this. Wishing you and all the other hosts that have stepped up to help keep Steve’s channel up and going. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and a big shout out to Steve, get well soon buddy, I want to see you out here at Barrett Jackson next month.👍😎🏁
My wife and I are keeping you in our hearts and prayers Steve! We can’t wait to have you back. Until then we’ll be watching you modify model cars into fun.. fun..funny CARS ! !
You gents that are supporting Steve’s channel with new content are the ultimate examples of generosity and selflessness. As a TH-cam subscriber I try to remember to just leave the TV on and put one of Steve’s play lists on and just hit play when I’m away. I miss that auto geek and am so grateful he has buds in the industry that aren’t so self absorbed that they take their time to help out an icon and a fellow human
always great to tune into steve's channel whether it's to bask in his vast knowledge and considerable nerd charm, or to enjoy the warmth and generosity of his friends. merry christmas steve and to everyone!
Thanks for doing these videos. DVAP is a great place and great guys to get parts from. I am still praying for Steve's recovery. While the 455 in 1975 was rated at only 20HP more, it was rated at 350Lb/Ft of torque, 75 more than the 350. And people back in the day didn't know but these engines were horribly underrated as the manufacturers scrambled to meet new Fed guidelines and to make insurance companies happy.
Thanks for filling in for Steve, great video. I had swivel seats in a 75 ElCamino. Very comfortable buckets and really made getting in and out easy when parked in the garage. Collonade doors were long!
Steve we miss you buddy. We’re impatiently waiting for your return. Yes you are missed & loved by many. Your knowledge about vehicles surpasses anyone. Hope to see you on here soon.
Thanks Rick and Tyler for helping our buddy, Steve on his channel along with the updates on his health. I hope you’re having a good recovery Steve and all is well. I hope someday to see you in person at my first Barrett Jackson. You guys are truly awesome.
I can't wait until tomorrow Steve is coming back, we have been waiting while he recovers and now he's gonna be crawling again, im glad you're still with us Steve we had all missed you and happy new year
Glad your getting better Steve, we've all missed you! and Rick and Hoovie your my dudes for filling in. GOOD pick on this Car, These mid late 70's cars are fastily becoming the a popular build, Idk if anyone else is paying attention but your seeing more and more of them showing back up on the street as daily drivers, at Car's at Coffee's and Local Car shows. Half or more of my car club has been wrenching or built mid 70's- early 80's cars since the Covid lockdowns because they are still dirt cheap, the majority of parts are still available from parts stores and online parts warehouses, the Aftermarket is coming along very very well and there's still a ton of used parts available and they have aged out of the Smog regulations so you can do pretty much whatever you want with them and lets face it.... these cars are pretty good looking cars.
All these years and I never noticed that there were both a W 25 and a W 30. These are a very interesting part of the U.S. automotive industry history as it had to suddenly pivot from muscle cars to what was going to work in the post OPEC oil embargo era.
Back when I was in my 20,s I had a 1975 Hurst Olds W30 . With a 455 BB engine.it was white like this one had swivel bucket seats. T- Tops, black and white interior awesome car also had like louvers on the hood like vents.the letters on the fenders and rims were gold in colour.tachometer on the console of course the Hurst shifter too 😊 sure do miss it Thanks for sharing brought back some great memories ❤😊
Thanks for helping Steve out. FYI, the Hurst and Oldsmobile arrangement started in 1968. The 68's were only available in silver, and, if memory serves, that's the only year silver was offered. The myth that Demmer Engineering swapped out the 400 for the 455 still lives on today. The 68 Hurst/Olds were born with a 455 on the factory line. I'm still amazed that a relatively small company like Hurst could swing the deal with Olds. He went on to make similar deals with AMC and Jeep as well.
1968 was the first year for the Hurst Olds. Hurst wanted to build a car that broke one of GM’s rules which selling an A body with a 455 in it broke GM’s self imposed 400CI limit in a mid size car. But this wasn’t Hurst’s first choice. Initially Hurst wanted to build a Pontiac Firebird with a 428 HO engine. GM flat out rejected that idea (guessing to protect the Corvette from Pontiac) and instead pushed for this idea. Oldsmobile’s sales were also down at the time.
Rick!! Thank you for your time in helping out our dear friend and mentor, Steve Magnante!! Glad to hear he's doing better, and I certainly can't wait to learn more from him. Hopefully he can see the awesome people who have helped along the way with his Channel!! Merry Christmas to all, and as always, 🙏🏻God bless 🙏🏻, and stay safe.
It is of course, a great thing that first Hoovie and now Rick are subbing in for Steve and helping him out but I also enjoy these videos on their own merits. It's good to see different cars at different locations presented by different people with different perspectives. I see these as a compliment to Steve's videos, not as a replacement for them. I was an occasional Hoovie watcher before but I've found that I watch him a little more since he did some fill-ins for Steve and will probably continue to do so after Steve comes back. You don't do a bad job either yourself, Rick. If you decided to do a companion series along with Steve, you'd have a subscriber here for sure. It's winter time up here in the cold northeast and we can't really be out enjoying our car hobby so getting a video fix helps to keep us engaged.
For those that didnt already know. I read in Motortrend that Steve is much better and planning a return at the beginning of the year- 2024. God bless Steve and all of you that have been holding vigil for our friend. Ill try to post the link to the to the MotorTrend article but feel free to search it out as it brought a tear to my eye to read the miraculous news. Cheers everyone!
Two comments: first, thank you Rick for filling in for Steve. You did a fine job.
