Kingdom is one of the single best zombie shows! Like I can't stress enough how much I like it
Well, we watching!!
@@whitenoisereacts Thank you very much for all your guys's efforts in keeping the content coming!
It's a shame that it hasn't been approved for a third season.
omg sameeeeeeeee
same i got my mom to watch it and now shes hooked into it
They do such a good job of balancing horror and political. I love the setting and how it's like the concept of a zombie is completly new to them. This series gets so good and it's a nice twist on the zombie genre.
For context the time frame is about 3 years after a war between Japan and Korea.
So the people weren’t only dying of hunger from the government being incompetent but also recovering from the war.
If you decide to continue the show after season two the movie Kingdom: Ashin of the North was released. You will see some Japanese characters there but none in the main show
Having the patient 0 be the most powerful person in the land and therefore the virus spreads to the common folk as a consequence of the political ambitions of the powerful is such a refreshing way to do it. It really sets up the theme of the show as not just a really good thriller, but as a commentary on class and how the consequences of the powerful and wealthy disproportionately effect the poor
Yeah, and it feels a lot more mystical so I love it!
I am in love with this series. I am not a horror fan by any means, but the series is more of a thriller than a downright horror.
I am glad I am rewatching this with you guys!! 🔥
This series is going to be so much fun!!
There's a similar series on Netflix - Just without zombies: Haechi. (Well, it seems it's no longer available on Netflix... :( )
I usually hate hate hate zombie based shows, but this one was so good and I loved this show, kept me on the edge of my seat in a good way. Looking forward to seeing your reaction to the rest of this series! Glad to see that more and more Korean shows are getting recognition!
Yeah so well done
@@whitenoisereacts Army Of The Dead
@@whitenoisereacts please
This is legit why I even watched a zombie show
this is one of the best zombie show ever....not because the zombies acting, but how the story line actually give you all the answers no matter how mythical the scenes looks like.....most of zombie show doesnt even bother to show you the start (patient zero)....
hope u give this show a chance no matter how many questions u have, cuz it will be answer after u finish the show....
We are watching at least season 1!
Yas! I love Kingdom! The show is so good. During this time period and for a long time in Korea scholars, officials, and nobles wrote in Chinese. There is mention of the past war with Japan at one point and one brief scene but it's more of a footnote in this story. Someone in the comments mention this is like Zombies + Game of Thrones done right and I couldn't agree more. There are a lot of great sets and cinematography as well.
Whoever came up with the idea to have zombies in a royal time period like this is genius. Especially balancing in the politics as well. That whole concept is such a dope idea that no one has no one has successfully done before. Because it’s always been zombies in modern times, which is fine if it’s done well. And here we have Kingdom, one of the best zombie shows out there in general imo.
After korean media gained more popularity and reactors embraced the hype, people gave Kingdom second wind, spamming on every channel "than you should watch Kingdom too" including me of course, so fucking nice here we goo!
Lol we got u!!
Hangul(Korean alphabet) wasn’t invented till 1443 by King Sejong so before that they used Hanja (Chinese characters) so in 17:11 someone is using Chinese characters.
Oooh good to know!
I knew that. I was like " that's Chinese...."
It should be noted that even after King Sejong invented Hangul, it was dismissed by the Joseon Dynasty aristocracy, who stuck with Hanja. The superceding of Hangul over Hanja did not happen until after the Korean War.
Yeah, this series takes place a few years after the Japanese invasions, right around 1600, so hangul would have been around for a while. But it was considered low-class and "women's writing", so of course the scholars and aristocrats and doctors were all still mostly using hanja.
KINGDOOOOMMMMMM FINALLLYYYYY
For me it’s Kingdom > Train to Busan > All of Us are Dead
Kingdom is like Zombies + Game of thrones done right
Well we got em all for you!
Yaaassss!! Kingdom!! I am huge fan of this show. And I say this as someone who is not a fan of horror. So glad you decided to react to this. The politics, or cultural setting can make some things difficult to get at first, but I genuinely hope you stick with this 💖
Just a trivia. Joseon Dynasty ran for 518 years (1392-1910). And Japan did try to invade Korea during the Joseon dynasty but it only lasted for 7 years but there was a big gap in the middle so it wasn't really going on for 7 years. Basically between 1592-1598 Japan tried to invade Korea twice and it ended in Japan's defeat.
Just finished watching this reaction, I am not someone that enjoys zombie genre but this had me hooked because of the amazing production quality, the mystery around the origin of the zombies( you'll find about the source in next few episodes) but they never reveal too much, the sets, cinematography and the historical backdrop makes it seem like a folklore. This is different because we are so used to seeing zombie movies and shows set in present or future world. Kingdom is one of my favorite shows on Netflix besides Mindhunter and The Alienist. I am so glad you guys are enjoying it because it gets crazy every episode. I am looking forward to watching more.
I love Kingdom, it just gets better and better! I especially love Yeong-Shin, he has so many badass moments and is always ready to fight
Ah you guys are finally also watching Kingdom. This is gonna be a fun ride. It’s a perfect mixture of GOT+Zombie Apocalypse. I never really liked zombie stuff cause I used to find them gross and not so scary but man Korean directors sure knows how to give you goosebumps. Hope you’ll like it. I can’t wait for you guys to get into more kdramas like Memories of Alhambra ( kinda shows a virtual apocalypse), The Cursed (horror and made by the director of Train to Busan), Goblin (main character of Train to Busan), Arthdal Chronicles, Vagabond, Sweet Home, Hellbound, Vincenzo. These are the type of shows you’ll really like and the graphics are no joke.
If you want a historic show with Korean, Japanese and American characters, I totally recommend Mr. Sunshine! It's really good.
Damn Mr Sunshine is a masterpiece of a series. So well done, acted and such a beautiful show.
yes , one of the best kdramas ever!
What’s it about??
So happy you guys are checking out Kingdom this is an awesome show! If you guys are interested in another good korean show that isnt zombie based, theres this psychological thriller called Strangers From Hell. I highly recommend it! Its on Netflix and its only 10 episodes :) Thanks for all the great content!!
Strangers From Hell is PHENOMENAL!! And the best mind f**k ever in a show for me. It is also the one that introduced me to Lee Dong-Wook. He lured me in like no other actor has in a very long time. And now I watch anything and everything he is in. Such an underrated show. I wish more people would watch it.
17:23 Chinese character are the common writing during time period because of how confucius/mencius scholars are the main focus at that time. Writing that defer from Chinese are called barbaric and they even try really hard to destroy the hangul from being used.
In my opinion, this is still the best Netflix show, aside from Peaky Blinders. It is very beautiful and so well made! It's amazing.
17:11 That is isn't korean or Japanese it's Chinese characters. Hangul which is the korean alphabet was created by King Seojong in 1446. So they used Chinese characters for writing but said korean language until then. King seojong made hangul to let everyone learn how to write and read. Because Chinese character was hard to learn and only Wealthy peoples were able to learn how to read and write. I know this well cause i'm korean🙂
hollywood movies should take notes. they have been doing zombie flicks for decades but a recent korean booming movie industry has made it right.
This series is so underrated so I'm always happy to see new people discovering it.
Why am I seeing this just now?? You guys reacted to Kingdom and I am watching it just now?! I was waiting for this since long. I guess I missed the notification. So excited for this!
The longer you watch this, the more you'll love it. You will get attached to the characters and be cheering and crying for them. I agree that the time period makes for a unique take on the zombie idea....not much science to speak of, and what science there is, is considered mystical or "fanciful"...so, how do you combat the zombies???
Yo finally. This show is completely different and kind of raw
IM WAITING FOR THE NEXT SEASONNN- but honestly, this type of show is very much so good to the point of being rewatchable
this series is great bcs it has all the things i love like wow thriller, horror, politics, action, fantasy, drama and the lack of romance make me love it moree
just got done with this series a few weeks back! Glad to see yall start on these series! Much love guys!
YES !!! I’m so excited for you guys to watch this series ! It’s one of my favorite zombie shows ,,
mr. sunshine is a kdrama with the japanese presence in korea highlighted more if you're interested in that
the handmaiden is a great korean movie along those lines too. no zombies in either of them tho
dang, i forgot how violent kingdom was though.. gruesome first ep
Awesome first episode. I'm shocked it took you guys this long to finally watch this
They ain't even watch Army Of The Dead bruh but they've been on a zombie movie marathon for months with no Army Of The Dead. I comment on every video but no response.
Just cause we don’t respond doesn’t mean we don’t see, and I’ll be honest with u brother. Once u do it more than once or twice, spamming a request like that is gonna make us less likely to watch it. Now what you don’t know, is that that movie has been on Patreon polls 4 or 5 times and lost so I decided to move on. Not only that, but we just started a show, so of course we’re not gonna drop everything and do a movie in the middle of all that
@@whitenoisereacts lol so funny drop a show to do a movie? I've requested same as many others. Spamming a request is more likely to make you not watch it? Yeah you guys needs better tips lol. I've been a fan for over a year but everytime I comment on patreon or TH-cam I'm always ghosted. If you don't want to watch it just say so stop making excuses
@@whitenoisereacts just because AOTD was not voted doesn't mean you shouldn't watch it is my whole point. You skipped it based on a poll lol and that's not what reactors do. You make a poll of which one your viewers want to watch first.
@@whitenoisereacts so you've seen all my comments before but decided not to answer until now? That's lit
The show takes place in alternate universe with somewhat different history, so not all major historical events happened in real history line up perfectly in this show.
That being said, it is presumed that the show takes place around 17th century, mainly inspired by the Great famine of 1760~1761, but also describes the country recently went through 2 invasions (this appears to be the Japanese invasion which happened in 1592~1598)
So the time line is kind of all mixed up, but because the show does not takes place specifically during the invasion, it is very unlikely that the show would feature Japanese characters.
Kingdom:Ashin of the North (movie) is a prequel to the series to Season 1 which gives the origin story of Ashin who discovered the Zombie herbs. Its good, you should watch it. Its a movie.
Kingdom takes place in Korea and the geopolitical of the country. There is a small interaction with a westerner for gun trade and some mention of Chinese involvement, but other than that, everything implodes within itself.
Omgs.. u reacting in to this. 😭🔥🔥🔥 ... my second zombie movies favorite. thank for ur hard work on this
17:15 the Korean alphabet, 'Hangeul', wasn't used widely until... around after the Japanese invasion period was over. They used Chinese characters to write Korean, back then.
The Cho clan are the Lannisters of this show.
It'll only get more and more interesting from here. As you go through the episodes, you will know how and why the king turned that way. The origin of 'zombification'. And it'll eventually come into full circle in the prequel movie 'Ashin of the North', which I hope you'll also watch after season 2. It's painful that each season only got 6 episodes each, but yeah binging it will be a breeze.
I've watched two seasons already including a standalone prequel episode Ashin of the North and I can say that this is hands down the best zombie tv show!
pls keep continued this reaction ss2 even BETTER!!!
0:25 The Joseon period was pretty long(1392 - 1945) and covers a time when both Joseon and Japan invaded or attempted to invade each other but Japan wasn't successful in conquering Joseon until after 1892 and didn't have direct control until the 1900's. Then after Japan's defeat in WW2 Joseon adopted it's current name Korea which is derived from the old kingdom Goryeo and it's predecessor ancient Goguryeo.
At that time in Korea it was written with Chinese characters
Just want you to know that last year there is a prequel drama(only 1 episode) of this series that was released. it was titled Kingdom:Ashin of the Norh. It will show there where is the very beginning of the zombie and how the king become a zombie. you can watch it after watching the S2.
I love this show and I'm excited to see your take on the filmmaking aspect of this show if it ever gains enough popularity, which I hope it does.
I'm really glad you're watching this series guys. It's awesome! Also the discussion tho 👀
Thanks :)
Yes! This is the reaction I’ve been waiting for! I’m so glad you guys came around to watching it. :D I love your reactions 💙
Y'ALL HAVE STARTED KDRAMAS????
omg i'm so pumped!! idk if you take suggestions but i have 3 here I'll STRONGLY recommend
Vincenzo
Move to Heaven
Strangers in Hell (this one is psychological thriller just fyi :D)
they're all on netflix
I'm so pumped to follow even more of your stuff,, you're one of my favourite reactor channels :D
The historical drama aspect of the show has been done many times but I love the way the zombies have added so much to the narrative. Neither the politics nor the zombies feel out of place, like you said, it seems like this could’ve really happened during that time period.
This series is soooo good! I hope you guys enjoy
I LOVE THIS SHOW! I'm glad you guys decided to react to it ^^
I am so happy you started this show, I am showing to all my friends at the moment, but I also enjoy your reactions a lot too, thank you :3
17:15 irs the old language/writing back then before the land was called Korea. Imagine like Latin before old english was made and other languages derived from it.
The language they are speaking is modern Korean but for story wise imagine they are speaking in the older language.
Omg I’m so excited that you guys are reacting to this show! It’s truly one of Netflix’s hidden gems
YESSS! Was hoping you guys would react to this! Such a great show + story :)
Can't wait for future ep. reactions and theories :))
I really enjoyed you guys reaction. it feels like I'm watching with my friends ^^ new subscibers!
This series was so good. I really hope we'll get another season some day
ah man YES. i love this one. its the best of both worlds with zombie choreo + historical battle choreo
I love this series, please keep watching it!!
I love kingdom. I don't usually watch horror but I watch a lot a historical k-dramas.
My God Guys I can't begin to tell you how excited I am you guys are watching this🥳
When I saw you watching Korean content I knew this was coming🥰
Love this show! Happy yall are reacting to it.
Another awesome series, and another awesome reaction😊 This show is so much more than just a zombie series, which is why I like it so much. The setting for it is really unique. I once saw a zombiemovie set during the American civil war period, Exit Humanity, which I thought was unique (sadly the movie itself wasn’t a real classic but had some interesting moment). This though, takes things to the next level, and as you will soon discover for yourself has so many other interesting elements that make this a very compelling watch. I can’t wait to (re) watch along with you guys! Have fun, and thanks for watching so many cool things! 😃😃
They’re writing in Classical Chinese Hanzi/Kanji. The commoners wrote in Hangul but royalty and upper class wrote in Hanzi to differentiate themselves from the peasants. Hangul or Korean characters are now standard but not so long ago they still wrote in Chinese, especially under Imperial Japanese colonization.
Think of it like how a lot of western languages write with the Latin alphabet but spelled differently and have different meanings. Japanese and Koreans as well as Vietnamese have custom characters made to fit their languages as well when they still wrote with Chinese characters.
Yes! More ppl need to react to this series.
I really hope you do watch all of it. It is a great show !
I do not like zombie shows/movies but Kingdom is great. I have recommended it to so many people that have loved it as well
Ohmigosh, I totally forgot about this show! It’s so good. I wonder if there’s going to be a third season.
Lol, hope this is the boys’ way of working their way up to “One Cut of The Dead”.
SCREAMING CAN'T BELIEVE YOU GUYS ARE REACTING TO THIS
Thanks, guys! Love this! ❤️
This series is a great zombie series. There's a movie that has the same kind of concept called Rampant. You should check that one out as well.
Kingdom and TWD are the best zombie series for me! after your reaction to this series react also to the movie, Kingdom Ashin of the North.. its how the outbreak of zombies started...sorry for my bad English
Omg I had no idea you'd react to this, this makes me so excited!
My underrated show. i'm glad it's been introduced to other people.
This show is SO GOOD!! I've watched in the beginning of the pandemic... it saved me from my boredom
Agreed!!
Ugh! Finally! Kingdom reaction!
Also… James is just too cute!
Korea/Joseon used Chinese characters as their main alphabet up until 1443 when King Sejong the Great invented Hangul (Korea's current alphabet)
Ahhhhh I was hoping you guys would watch this it is so good. Like SO GOOD. Probably one of the best shows on Netflix. Much excite 😆
Kingdom is a wild series. Can’t wait for next episode
omg first of all i need to say thank you AND WOW I MUST SAY THAT KINGDOM IS MY TOP RECOMMENDED ZOMBIE SERIES BCS ITS SOOOOO FUCKING GOOD AND WOW I LITERALLY REWATCHED IT LIKE 50 OR SOMETHING LOL BCS I CANT WAIT FOR SERIES 3 TO RELEASEI SWEAR YOU GUYS GONNA ENJOY THIS MASTERPIECE
I am loving Kingdom more than All of us are Dead.
Love the intrigue and palace politics and custom design which makes this more than just a zombie movie. 😍🥰🤗
Army Of The Dead is better
Wow didn’t know you were gonna react to this, it’s a fun show, thanks
You must react to The Happiness. It is also korean zombie series. It is very well done.
OMG OMG OMG OMG I CANNOT BELIEVE YOU ARE STARTING KINGDOM ❤️❤️❤️
This show is so incredible and it is very well done. I'm really smiling like crazy here seeing this
i love how this show is set in that era because they have no references to wtf a zombie is
Really like both your reactions to All of us are dead and Kingdom. I hope you will continue this journey!
We will!
How come this episode is not in the Kingdom playlist?
i am SOOOOOO pumped to see yalls reaction to this show it is sooo good!
This is the best zombie show, ever!!!
Reasons why I liked this show are, it is set on a dynasty era, not your typical Zombie movie that is more focused on gore and people are more realistic. What I mean by realistic is that, people have no idea about what zombies are, they are so oblivious up to the point that they are bitten and then it spreads like a wild fire. The main character is also likable and not your perfect protagonist. They also made a good job on making me hate the villain much.
I know this show is not perfect for such there is no perfect thing at all. But dang... this show is something else.
Guys, it looks like you're watching the show with the English (CC) subtitles. There are two English subtitle options. You should change to the English subtitle. It's usually more accurate. The CC is for closed captioning purposes so you wouldn't necessarily get complete translations because it focuses more on descriptive stuff for hearing impaired. For example, it'll say baby crying in parenthesis if there is a baby crying but it's not something that needs to be translated. I hope that makes sense. A lot of people watched shoes like Squid game with English (CC) subtitles which were atrocious. Take care!
Oh...I love this series ❤
You should react to Squid Game too.
YESSS THIS SERIES IS SO GOOD 😭 💯 RECOMMEND ❤️❤️❤️
YES I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS
PLEASE REACTION KOREAN DRAMA FROM NETFLIX ABOUT MONSTERS, THE TITLE (SWEET HOME)
Yes.
Yes, it's an amazing show.
There's a 2nd season called Kingdom: Ashin of the north.
@Reactance Thanks for correcting my mistake.
I thought this was a reaction of The Last Kingdom (which you guys should totally check out on Netflix), and I got so excited. Still cool though.
During my Thanksgiving vacation break, my siblings and I watched the entire series. This show is unlike anything I have ever seen. I loved demonstrates how political power can interfere with the public's health.
