Even before finding out you saved $100K, I thought you had done a phenomenal job.....now I'm even more impressed. You should be very proud of what you've achieved.
Owner building is so satisfying and you really made it work and documenting it on your channel made it so worthwhile well done be proud and keep up your good work!
Excellent result compared to the estimates and yes your once were really scared of heights and then you were happy swinging around up the top of the walls and roof. Well done on all counts, you should be proud of yourself!
Yes, that couple year period in the middle of the pandemic was kind of crazy looking back at what people were charging. I'm guessing it would be closer to $100k at this moment, so still a nice savings. But the experience gained was worth more in my opinion. Appreciate it as always!
That's been quite the journey so far! Maybe now is a good time to pause on the shop and fix the roof on your house. Sasha would approve of a dry, warm home this winter 👍😉
It has been a fun one. I’m going to finish out the bathroom and office in the shop, then the roof is coming off the house. (Need a place to reside for a couple weeks haha). It’s been a rough week here at the ranch though, Sasha doesn’t have to worry about being cold this winter. We lost our little safety supervisor Tuesday night. Majorly bummed.
Hello just watched this video after watching your 14 minutes shop build! Great job on getting it done yourself with friends and family! Sorry to read you lost your dog though- I enjoyed her tough safety supervisor role in the build! Cheers
Wow what an achievement, yes you could have sublet the entire construction out but ha it wouldn’t have been half as much fun as you building it yourself. You should be very proud of what you have managed to achieve and at such a massive saving. Keep up the great work, looking forward to the next video update. 😎👍
It all ended up going pretty well, can't complain. I'm hoping at some point to take on a couple outside swaps once I clear some of my own out of the way.
I built my Land Rover workshop during covid. I wanted to clad it in Canadian red Cedar instead of the stuff I could get in the UK. The price had doubled in the last year!....but I had to suck it up as I wanted to get the look of the building right. You gotta have what you want!
Well done! We were just quoted $2,000.00 CDN to replace a side entrance (mudroom) door to our home. Granted, it's not just hang a door on existing frame.
Yeah it’s crazy what some things have gotten to these days. But a lot of the good contractors are still busy enough that can make sure they get paid well. Which if people are willing to pay there is nothing wrong with that.
Wow not bad at all really, we plan on using Versatube building system to build with. Total of 3 buildings when we move. Two of them will become the house and one for the shop. Not as big as your shop but a shop.
It ended up being a tad better than I expected price wise. I figured I was at $50k or so at this point. I probably should have factored in the fuel for the 10,000 trips I made for supplies being I drive such fuel efficient things. The versatile style stuff is interesting to me, curious to see how those are to assemble when you get to that point.
The colors are nice. Excellent job on the self build. And wonderful choice in not sinking the posts in the concrete. If it was me, I would have also considered placing tubing in the concrete for radiant floor heating. I have a dream of doing something similar for an off-grid getaway (shouse cabin kind of thing) within the next few years. That is if the current numbskulls and soon to be numbskulls don't muck up the economy.
Thanks. I considered in floor heat, but I didn’t have any idea of hoist, equipment or mezzanine layout at that point and didn’t want to have to worry about dodging everything. Eventually I’ll probably buy a different property elsewhere and build some sort of shouse and that will get in floor heat. And numbskulls all around is right.
That was one heck of a bonus haha, I think it was right around $3000. I think Alabama should end up being a decent time, haven't been to that area before.
Next time when you have some project going on,I’ll buy LR4 with mileage around timing belt change time, and I will bring so you can change, and I’ll work on your construction site instead
Just goes to show how much they jack the prices of everything up that we buy today. Labor will kill many projects if you're not capable of doing it yourself, for people who can't afford $150,000
Yeah it can get out of hand, and it seems like that 2021-2022 period accelerated that tremendously. I’d be curious to see what something similar quotes out now to see if it settled down some. I am fortunate to be able to do things like this along with having some helpful and skilled family to get it done as well. Couldn’t have done it truly “by myself”.
Building prices were pretty crazy at that time. But I will say I had a ton of time into doing it, so there was a good amount of labor involved and that is obviously the savings. A good portion of savings was by doing the dirt work and pad prep myself as well. There was a fair amount of dirt dug out and moved around to get a nice place for the building to sit.
Yeah, I’m guessing the differential between the two isn’t quite as wide these days, but you never know. There were some crazy prices getting tossed around during the middle of the pandemic. I think the next one will be a decent size shouse on a few more acres. At least that’s the wish haha.

Thanks for that. It was a very rewarding process, had a blast along the way as well. Thanks for sticking around for the bulk of it haha.
@@LostCauseRanch mate you always have my support!
The education in the construction is well worth the money and time. Great job

Nice work Joe! The shop looks good too!
Appreciate that! It still has a few things to go, but as you know, nothing is ever done done.

What an achievement and well done!
Thanks! It was a rewarding process.
Looks good !!!!!
Appreciate that!
And it hasn’t even fallen over… yet.
Don't Forget to Factor in the Headaches Saved by Doing it yourself because you Tooooo Frickin Picky!!!! Great Job Joe!
That was another big reason, at the end of the day if you are particular you can never expect someone you hire to care as much as you do.
Looks awesome! Cheers!
What a great project!! Want to send my Rover to you for a LS Swap!!

Now the real question, how much did you get back in Menards rebates 😂 have fun in Alabama!

I’m baffled that they quoted you was 120k to 150k and you payed 45k.
Building prices were pretty crazy at that time.

Crazy how much you saved. So would have that been 100k in labor costs ? Maybe use the savings to another shop for all your other "finds" 😂
