Anna Tomowa-Sintow as Marechal is less sarcastic as Elisabeth Schwarzkopf but nobel in her gestic and mimic. Her Interpretation shows the pain of loss of her young lover, which she go through with enormous dignity. Agnes Baltsa is the youngest singer of Octavian in history of Salzburg Festival and Vienna State Opera. Her boyish charme in this recording is brillant. And finally Janet Perry perform a shy young and quite innocent dealing Sophie. Bravi to all!
Amazing performance. They are all marvellous singers and do full justice to Strauss' glorious music, their voices blending perfectly. We can't get better than this.
Actually, it did get better once with a 1933 recording with Lehmann, Olszewska (sp) and Schumann. The final trio is so incredibly beautiful you'll weep. It's on Naxos.
This trio is beautifully balanced. All three are in fine voice and they give way to each other to make the most important lines stand out. Tomowa Sintov is just gorgeous in the opening. A full ,rich toned voice.
I totally agree with you , Isabel ! One of the best moment of classical music that can't be forgotten with the singers , conductor , and the stage director ... ! I wish you the best with love !
Perry's Sophie is amazingly smooth and limpid. Such a very ethereal warm Sophie. Balsta was lovely in the role vocally and physically in her acting she really nailed the male aspect. T-S was radiant smooth, powerful and glowing. An excellent ideal performance.
All of them are great, my love Baltsa rocked of course, but I have to admit Anna ruled the stage. Each time I listen to this, she gives me goosebumps. This is her stage, the role is for her.
This is the performance I grew up on, and I adore, A.D.O.R.E. all three women, and there really is nothing that could ever replace this in my heart, but good lord God is this slow. I remember critics writing as much back in the day, but I had nothing to compare it to then. I remember, was it Alan Blyth, rest his soul, that said something to the affect that this was Rosenkavalier filtered through Brahms' requiem. Probably the wrong appropriation, but I miss Alan Blyth, so I thought I would mention him.
@@brucereid5120 But no recording I have heard so far has such an impressive crescendo as in this one. Watch Tomowa at 3:34 is there any better recording of this?
So many people consider Te Kanawa's Marshallin to be the gold standard, but I keep coming back to this one. It's so beautiful to have a big Straussian voice who could sing the most delicate piano on the Ab and crescendo to a big spinto sound up on top like Tomowa-Sintow
I'd like to see these folks who consider te Kanawa 'the gold standard' in this part. It's nice if the Marschallin has a creamy voice, but that's not half as important as her acting skills and, most importantly, her verbal acuity. Any Marschallin who approaches the role generically, with little attention to word-meaning or to the myriad shades of emotional development through which the character passes, is a failure. IMHO, Schwarzkopf and Felicity Lott, between them, comprise 'the gold standard' for this role.
Arabella e' insopportabile.
I keep coming back to Tomowa-Sintow & the 2 wonders of this Trio. Karajan's conducting Vienna Philh. must play a decisive role in my adoration but I don't have what it takes to talk about any of that.
Although I am not a fan of Stitch-Randall I will opt for HvK's first Rosenkavalier. The second time around he has made more cuts and the tempi is slower. I was lucky enough to see ES in the role a number of times and she is still the benchmark for this role which is not to say that Tomova-Sintow is less a Marschallin, just different and glad to accommodate maestro's tempo.
Unsurpassable Anna Tomowa-Sintow. Not so soon. There are only two unique singers and performers on the opera stage in the last century - Maria Callas and Anna Tomowa-Sintow.
I really wish they'd cast the singers out there with just right amount of warmth and brightness for this opera today. We get so much wobble!
The best trio ever. The leggato and the plasticity of yhe voices of these amazing singers is simply umbeliabable. Love you all.
God. Does it get any better than this? Legendary trio!
Gina Aramburu yes, I feel the same. They are superb!!!
O my God! This is music to die for!

That makes no sense. Agnes Baltsa would have been 40 years old in 1984...
This is stella. Vocal Beauty. Although I Will always love Schwarzkopf…
Add the Presentation of the 🌹 Scene and the Italian Singer’s aria and you have the trifecta of sublime beauty.

Love Anna. Love them all
all voices are fantastic...
Gracias.
Woooowww..... Incredibles voices. Love them all..... 😍😍😍
Brava, Perry!
Great singing and acting, both.
Their acting is so touching and genuine at the end ... the final kiss. Exquisite.

Heavenly music!

Daniel Raphael I think the same. They are perfect and soft. The music is like the water of a calm river following its gentle way...amazing
Herrlich! Danke dafür!
For me the most important ensemble to this part ever. Love Baltsa, Janet and Ana. great singers and amazing musicians. ❤❤❤
Ach wie schön! Viele Grüße from the Münsterland in Northwestern Germany,
Bernd.
The most Crystalline voiced cast, and yet the most ridiculously slow tempo. But it still worked.

Richard Dumas, it’s twice the speed of Renee Fleming’s glacial version!!

Die beste Interpretation ohnegleichen. Wunderschön.
Estupendo! Muchas gracias!
Gracias. Bella interpretación.
Exquisitas voces
great upload bob!
sehr gut
Tomowa-Sintow blows all other Marschallins that I've heard out of the water!
Schwarzkopf is the MARSCHALIN, nobody can be compared to her!!
immer wieder schön ....
Música y Voces , una delicia.
grandioso
Mágico momento musical...
Luminous

A masterpiece to be continued in 1962.
Hermosisimo!!!Maravillosas voces.

Que belleza de voces!!!!!!!🌿
Strauss really was a first class composer, despite what the critics in his day said about him.

of course thus is the culminating Richard Wagner

Sorry
