    You should win some sort of award for these videos. Unbelievable detail and knowledge, not to mention all the hard work. Thank you so much

    The side discussions, like what to do if the engine is seized, are useful guidelines. You're doing a great series, thanks for the effort.

      Lol, you are not a slacker if you are learning a lot. Learning and slacking are mutually exclusive and diametrically opposed.

    Thanks Freesafe, but remember if my T/A is in a video it means my baby has a problem, and I would be very upset about that! I promise to do one on the T/A if something comes up, but every day that doesn't happen is a good day!

    Thanks for making these videos. I have a 7afe Toyota engine out of a Corolla that needs rebuilding. I was going to try taking it out myself and then take it over to the machine shop for rebuilding. Now that I see all that needs to be done and the specialty tools... no way. I'm not even going to do it. Thanks.

    Wow, You must be a psychic. You know Just about every car. I Just heard You at 14:56 talk about the Intrepids, Ironically I'm watching this to learn how to pull My 2.7L block out of the bay. Since I'm not understanding what the heck the FSM is narrating. Wish You gave a little More info on removing the Trep engine, Or at least have a good engine removal on it like You did on this one, But I'm sure that'll be just asking too much, Lls.
    But dude gets down to bidness* in explaining stuff, Not Only The "How" But also & Most importantly The "WHY". I'm about watched all Your darn Videos, I Should win/get a Trophy.

    • @SchrodingersBox
      @SchrodingersBox  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nedu Nonny P Trep engines are by far the easiest replacements I have ever done hands down. You should have no problem at all.
      BTW I can't count how many 2.7's I've done- at least 6. They clearly have some issue with the oil return galleys not being efficient or something because all had the same failure. I usually have the swap done withing 12 hours total.

    • @nedunonnyp704
      @nedunonnyp704 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Schrodingers Box True. It would've took Me 12 hrs too if I was doing a swap. Lls. But I chose a rebuild so I can get a hands on & learn a thing or 2, Since @ some point I was gonna junk the car. Idk about the oil galleries, but The main Problem/build flaws I know of the engines in these cars is their water pump gasket which from reports I've seen/read, fails often, which I'm sure was the case in Mine, as It over heated & boiled water out of the reservoir hole, which in turn contaminated the oil - The famous SLUDGE, DUE to the position/Location of the water pumps (Directly Above the Oil Pan - Very Genius & Smart Design By Dodge\Chrysler) Coupled with the fact that the WP Gaskets in the 2.7's Fail more often than Singers Fall On stage. Although it's said they've come out with a better water pump design in their newer engine to minimize these catastrophic failures, but I still see these 2.7's fail in Chargers & 300's they still use it in.
      But anyway enough of the Blabbing, What I really need to know is how to Unbolt/Detach the Block From the Tranny? The FSM I Have doesn't show it surprisingly, or maybe I just don't have the part that shows it...
      So, I was gonna just change the Rod Bearings & All The Gaskets, But a word from the Wise Guys On these Engines Spoke to Me & said it's Wiser to go ahead & take the Crank Out to Check it & make sure it's not Scratched up or Worse Out of Round. So now I'm @ the stage where all the parts are stripped & left with the Block & Crank w/o a guide as to how to Remove the Bolts holding the Block to Transmission.
      Can You Be Of Help?
      & Don't even say, I know this is a long Essay...

    ive been working on removing the engine on my 05 murano with a seized engine can you tell me a little bit more on how to separate the flex plate from the converter.

    • @SchrodingersBox
      @SchrodingersBox  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Esdras Alex If engine is seized you will have no other choice but to remove oil pan and loosen rod caps and main caps to rotate engine to separate flex plate from converter

    Hi! I'm debating whether to do this job on this very vehicle ('90 Corolla with a 5-speed). Many resources say to take out the transmission along with the engine. I wonder why you do it this way, and how much difference it makes that my daughter's car has the manual transmission.

    • @SchrodingersBox
      @SchrodingersBox  11 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Jakdedert- The reason I went the route I did was because I knew the driveplate would clear the transmission thus allowing me to remove just the engine. Having a manual you will not be abke to do this and you will need to remove both together because the input shaft will never clear with as little room as there is between the engine and side of engine bay. It is defintely more labor to remove both however it can still be done using pretty much the tools shown. I would definitely plan in a couple weekends at least!!

    • @jakdedert

      Schrodingers Box
      I guess that's just as well, although now I have to research the additional steps required. I don't suppose removing that final pulley shown here would free up the extra room...? I need to work on the transaxle...needs a new axle shaft and oil seal on one side anyway.
      Also, on these motors, I think it would make sense to change out the timing belt while the engine is out of the car, unless it can be accurately determined that's already been done. It's a 60k replacement requirement, and I know from experience that they do break (although it's not an interference engine, so no damage is done).

    .how hard is it to do a motor swap in a saab 9-3. I have some mechanical experience but this would be my 1st time trying to swap and engine out. What advice would you recommend for me?.. and if you had to pay a mechanic to do it what would be the max price you would be willing to pay a mechanic?

    • @SchrodingersBox

      A motor swap is not hard. Like any parts changting it's just spinning bolts. Anyone can spin bolts.

    Uhhh, what's with all the talking? If you're ever going to get that engine out, you need to start turning that ratchet instead of constantly discussing - Engine Removal, Theory and Discussion on Getting Greasy, a Reflective Approach.
    Out of all the engine removal videos I've seen, this is the least helpful. Just get to work!

      @Anthony Starfield. Maybe you didn't notice but this is an instructional video and if I wanted to "just get that engine out" then I wouldn't have even filmed it much less explain my approach. Sorry you missed the intent of the video. I generally assume my subscribers to have a minimum threshold of intellect, obviously I overestimated in your case.

      Schrodingers Box Zing! Hey man, I LOVE your videos. You're the best I've ever seen at explaining this kind of stuff out of all the mechanical instruction videos I have seen on youtube. I'm still not confident enough to tackle this, but your videos have helped me so much. Thank you!
