    Bought the Echobrain the other day, and I'm having a lot of fun with it - I find myself using the self oscillation thing quite a lot. If you set the time to around 1-2 o'clock and do the same with the repeats and then slowly push it to 2-3 o'clock, you can also get a a very nice wall of reinforcement when you feed it into a reverb. (I use the Fender Marine Layer either on shimmer or modulate mode for this)

    Most of them were fine with typical delay/echo settings but the oscillation test was the final proof. TC Echobrain seemed to do both fairly well, a lot like old Boss delays, so did the Joyo and the Behringers. I was quite disappointed with the Dr J given its extra features.

    TC echobrain my Fav out of these but Mooer and JOYO are decent for the price. Have a Mooer pitch Box and i have a feeling i may end up with an ELEC LADY somewhere down the line. That seems to be surprisingly one of the best Flangers on the market and the price is def right and its very pedalbaord friendly size for sure.

    Just found out that Behringer purchased TC. It's getting harder to find some behringer pedals. TC released a series of pedals (including the echo brain) which were upgraded versions of Behringer pedals. It seems like they're phasing out some of the behringer stuff and replacing it with the better build quality of the TC stuff. Effectively the echo brain is like the replacement, the follow up, the next edition of the VD400. These two pedals do seem to have a very similar sound although i still think the VD400 sounds a bit warmer. The VD400 sounds like it has a bit more noise though...

    BUT… is “analog” a true descriptor or just a buzzword for these pedals? I really don’t know. Are they *actually* analog or not? I don’t know. Does it really matter? I don’t know that either.

    • @RyanLutton
      @RyanLutton  ปีที่แล้ว

      Its a good question and an even more interesting debate :) I just went for anything that gave an "analog delay" sound. I feel thats what most people are interested in, the actual sonic character of the pedal. They all aim for that darker grittier vibe, even if they are digital imposters haha

    Most of these pedals aren't analog. I got 2 doa Behringer VD400s in a row and am looking for a true bucket brigade alternative at around the same price. The reason is that you can feel true analog when you play it. It may sound near identical when comparing sweet spots but when you actually play it, there's a sensitivity that you can't replicate. It's like a piano vs a midi keyboard, sure they sound similar on the cd but the player's end is like night and day.

    WTH with all the endless feedback oscillations. That's fkg irritating. I've never seen a delay that didn't do that and it's useless. You should have turned on a distortion pedal so we could hear what it sounds like for a solo.
