  • "Well it's all about space and it's all about pace.."
    Joeli Vidiri was born 23 November 1973 in Nausori, in the highlands of Nadi, Nadroga-Navosa Province and is a retired Fijian rugby union footballer who also played for the New Zealand All Blacks. He played as a winger predominantly.
    Vidiri studied at Queen Victoria School (Fiji). He represented Fiji in both 15s and sevens before coming to New Zealand in 1994. He played for the Auckland Blues in the Super 12 competition and represented Counties Manukau in the NPC. He only managed to play two tests for New Zealand in 1998. In 2001 he was diagnosed with a kidney illness and placed on dialysis treatment like his fellow Auckland Blues winger Jonah Lomu.
    Vidiri played in the Super 12 for the Auckland Blues from 1996 until 2001, where he scored 43 tries in 61 games, at the time an individual record. In 2000 Joeli created the record for most tries scored in one match scoring 4 against the Bulls, a record which has since been equalled but not yet broken. He had a song named after him (Give Me Hope Joeli) that was very popular with the Auckland Blues fans at home games at Eden Park. He appeared in only five Super 12 matches in 2001, with his illness impacting on his ability to play. In 2000 Vidiri played for the Barbarian F.C. against Leicester Tigers. Vidiri made 71 provincial appearances for Counties, for whom Vidiri scored 56 tries. After two early matches with Auckland in the 2001 NPC, he ended his career.
    After his career was cut short, it was revealed that Vidiri had been waiting on a transplant for over a decade (accurate to 2013), and on 8 April 2013 episode of Campbell Live, it had been revealed he was talked out of a kidney transplant in 2008, and had taken himself out of the waiting list due to his mother's skepticism and traditional views against transplants and surgery. He currently lives and works in Pukekohe.
    Thanks for watching and much love!

    Scrum, Hooker (no.2, center in football) hooks the ball to the back to halfback/scrum half (QB). Spencer (10, fly half, an agile punter/kicker playing as an alternative QB, not a backup, but a hybrid QB). Forward kicks are unlimited. Grubber kick=Squib kicks on open play, but also used like a ground shovel pass.

  • @BrockMak
    @BrockMak 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    3:39 Kick and chase are football equivalent of catching a forward pass, but he, as a wideout, passed it to himself (the ball are allowed to bounce and not be called incompletion or fumble on a rushing play).

    great video. If we were to compare this to american football.. Their skills are what you would call open field running. No blocking by other players and 1 or 2 men to beat.. you have seen this happen in football after the runner gets threw the line or hits the edges on sweeps or screen plays (which usually sets up blockers down field.) You kinda see this style of running from punt returners but they again have blockers down the field.

    As a completely ignorant observer, from an American football perspective, the, what we would call, "edge" defenders have a very different philosophy on attacking the ball. We're taught that interior defenders should pursue the ball carrier inside out which forces the ball carrier to run laterally minimizing their forward progress while corners and/or ends typically are taught to "contain" the carrier by pursuing outside in thus forcing the ball carrier back inside where help defenders are coming from to help. Several of the edge defenders here are pressing the carrier inside out which gives the (wing?) Guy on the outside free reign of the sideline. I'm ignorant when it comes to rugby rules and strategy, so I guess my question is; are"edge" defenders taught a similar strategy of squeezing the ball carrier back into the help defenders, or do they normally choke down inside allowing ball carriers to pitch it down the sideline? Basically, I'm just curious about the technical strategic differences in the ideology between rugby and football. I'm finding the two sports share several aspects, so I'm becoming increasingly curious about philosophical differences in the two sports. Cheers. Oh, BTW John Randle. Lol

    The difference between North America and the rest of the world, in North America we had what is called selective breeding for better bigger faster workers for 400 years, the great experiment. You understand size, speed and quickness and the American south athletes are the elite of the whole United States, the true essence of football is in the south and then you will understand rugby and football are very similar. You haven’t even scratched the surface of what the sport means in the states from the kids in south Florida, Texas,Alabama, Georgia,Louisiana,south Carolina, Mississippi, North Carolina, and you will learn more about the sport.

      That would take a while, Google it.
      5 points for a try (touchdown)
      2 points for the kick after try
      3 points for a drop goal or a penalty kick
      Kick the ball forward, pass the ball backwards, offsides rules are complex but stay behind the ball mostly, you can't block for runners, tackles must be wrapped below shoulders, you cannot play the ball from the ground or while bound in a ruck.... etc.
