Incredibly gifted from day 1 and produced a masterclass against the Lions and as a crusaders fan was stoked to have him in our side but for years I always argued that he was just an extremely gifted 10 in all areas but couldn't drive a team the same degree that Andrew Merthens could who obviously didnt have the same level of talent as Dan (except for as a kicker). But then came the 2015 WC and that semi against SA and then the Final against Aus Carter produced two masterclasses in game management and my argument was crushed just like that. Obviously it doesnt match the highlights of the lions game but in terms of decision making an execution and reliving pressure in big moments it was second to none. Wilkinson was great in 03 but he missed 3 drop goals before he made his famous kick at the end. Carter was almost perfect all night for the ABs in that semi and final. What made it more significant was obviously the injury in 2011 and the injuries since then and the media and fans questioning his place in the side (which I couldnt believe). What a way to finish your career in the black jersey. Simply the best first five in the games history and what a humble man to go with that creditional and we have alot of humble greats in this game we can add mccaw and wilkinson to that list.
Javier Bardem was sat about 10 rows back from me in the final. Didn’t realise he was such a big rugby fan. Supposedly he played quite a bit in his younger days as a forward.

Loved Jonny Wilkinson as an English fan but Carter is the best rugby player I have ever seen. He could do everything and anything.
Sat next to a Wallabies’ fan during the final. His reaction when Carter dropped that goal was: "Absolute Class."
