Such a great actor. I can't help but feel bad for him, it seemed like he went to the grave a troubled man (like many AIDS victims, they went to the grave with discreet and shame). I know he would marvel today on the acceptance of LGBT brothers and sisters.
It was around filming of Psycho III he was getting sick but he never knew (possibly afraid to know) what it is. It was once a blood sample of his was tested without his consent that the story broke.

I wouldn't say he was necessarily a phony .... but he was definitely troubled. Ever see the documentary "Tab Hunter - Confidential" ...? Tab goes into detail about their homosexual relationship, which was definitely taboo in the 1950's.... It was an era when people adored manufactured celebrities, who... were sort of molded into a certain image to represent something that people aspired to being..... I think he was anguished by his feelings and was ultimately very sensitive to what people thought and how they perceived him...... He was involved in strictly homosexual relationships until his late 30's.... and then ultimately decided to marry and have children a little later in life, I think... because he wanted to mold himself into what he considered to be a "man." It breaks my heart to think that he lived in an era when there was a stigma attached to gay people....which is not to say that it doesn't exist now, it's more socially acceptable... but there are a lot of men in Hollywood that I believe are gay, who won't come out because they believe it will damage their career. .... regardless, he was a very intelligent, talented man and that's how he should be remembered.

No he stated that he had never been with a woman, so just assumed he was gay. It was noted that in real life he had a mother in who was almost as controlling as the crazy split- personality mother figure in Psycho. For this reason several friends were concerned about Perkins playing the part. Since he'd never been with a women due to his sicko real life mother, he finally was pushed into a relationship with a woman on the movie set of "The life and Times of Roy Bean" and said he then realized that he wasn't gay as he'd always assumed.

patrickbateman93 in my opinion, Anthony Perkins was probably a self hating gay man. Even now, just like in his era, there are still gay men who think they are freaks and think that they can be “cured” by being with a straight woman. But I know it doesn’t work that way. I think that if Anthony Perkins were alive today, people would just enjoy his work and not care about what he did in his private life, as he was a fine actor.

I just loved Tony. What a handsome lad...those eyes, that intensity. Phedra, with Mercouri...its best as a young man in love. The secual encounter between Anthony Perkins and the incredible Greek goddess is the most erotic and refined of all sexual encounters I have seen.

@@wildstoneflower That scene in Phaedra was so beautifully done, with the rain outside and the fire burning inside to denote their passion.

Yeah, it was one side of his split personality advocating caution as best means of prevention against HIV infection, while his other side was poking holes in his condoms. I guess the roles he played kinda grew on him over the years, or was he a natural to play them?

Anthony Perkins was the FATHER of Oz, not his son. 😂
