When I talk to my Christian family that science and religion are one, they still look at me like I’m nuts. This separation of the two is part of the trap. Same as the separation of Blackness from Africanness. Blows my mind.

Great as usual! Im an atheist. Was raised around religion and studied Christianity. Yes, we need to have the discussion on the history of the bible, Constantine, Roman influence over Christianity and whom or where the notion of the christ came from.

I used to argue with Christians that Africans had already experienced what the world was just learning thousands of years ago.
I love this series Karen Hunter. I was introduced to Baba Carr from Roland Martin’s show and this series. Baba Carr is the type of Elder where you drop by his house for a quick second next thing you know you’ve been there for hours listening and trying to learn. He is most certainly a national treasure! This is such a difficult discussion to have. I have not figured out where to begin with the people I love so this has been a lonely understanding. Im still learning. Stopped going to church 4 years ago. I think I went through all the phases of grief when I discovered how much was stolen and hidden from us. I'm in the spirit of celebration at this point! Preparing to share this wisdom. I don't want the responsibility of pulling the bottom out for my loved ones. Man, the beginning of class today spoke to me. If I were to build a curriculum from scratch, the two things students would be required to learn are 1) a skill that is useful in the job market and 2) Black history and a sense of self.
Although I'm a little late to the liberal arts/humanities party, I wouldn't change my development of skills in the areas of product development, monetization, and audience building for the world. It feels great to know that I can pretty much create anything that I want and that I have a good chance of making it successful.
But, I think that if I had a greater sense of my history growing up, I would have valued the work that I was doing more in the upliftment of the Black community. No matter what the learned skill is, I think it becomes more valuable to the person if they know how they fit into the greater whole. This is the reason why I love Saturday school.

I love these classes. In the 60s a lot of this knowledge was passed along to me. So refreshing to hear it again by the wonderful Dr. Carr. Thank you so much, Karen.
This class is so fantastic, knowledge will lift us up to were we belong.
Even in my youth, I always questioned the "Big Bang" Theory. Why? How does a violent explosion create such imperfect perfections? Meaning we're (including all earthly things) not perfect but we are in creation sense we are. Plus, anything violent, added with an explosion, destroys not creates. Only a violent mind would conjure up a violent beginning that they did not bare witness to. Big props to Dr. Carr for bringing up the quote from Dr. Clarke in regards to looking at African history as your beginning.

I watch Black is King every morning. You learn something each time you watch it. Watch with captions on, listen, look up things and enjoy! It literally talks about everything that you all just discussed. Identity, listening to our ancestors, astrology and cosmic beings. The soundtrack has been out for over a year so if you listen to the soundtrack and know the Lion King - it merges beautifully in this one story with one theme - Black takes no L to anything just as Dr. Carr stated. A message that our Black men need to learn of themselves and know the power is within.. Our relationship with God, the stars, water and this planet existed well before there was ever a written Bible. I say that as a Christian. Not to mention the showcase of African artists and dance! 🖤🖤🖤

The negative or dismissive attitudes and in most cases the ignoring of this work altogether IS A SHAME!
The album should've been a discussion piece and a hit record already.
I think detractors and people who let it slip under their radar, altogether, just aren't vibrationally or psychologically ready to accept actual BLACK excellence.
It's one thing to simply use that phrase as a hashtag, it's another to actually see:
1. Real Black wealth
2. Serious Beauty
3. Major talent
4. Empowered, prosperous attitude
5. Million Dollar production
6. Cultural Swag
7. Spiritual Message
8. Ancient/historic research/truth
9. Banging Tracks
10. Beautiful, audacious, vanglorious display of "Blackness"
And for alllll of this to come from Beyonce. They can't take it! How dare she be beautiful, talented, wealthy AND talk that talk usually reserved for people that are frankly still struggling ("stay in your struggle"🤣) and do not present as fabulously.
She and her family actually embody the principles of the "...we were the first..." "we were rich"... "we were this and that..."
But when that "LIVING WORD" in the form of a Black Family filled with Black Artistry and Black Wealth and Black Community is in their face, it apparently shines to bright for most.

I really love this show, thank you! Thank you a million times! I appreciate your thoughts on Black is King. I would like to add that it is really a music video montage and the audience is the youth of our time and that is why it may seem over processed - it was curated that way. I am young enough and ignorant enough of what she was trying to show us so I wasn’t overwhelmed by the visual, I didn’t overthink it. It was a masterpiece. I feel on the surface she is able to show the masses that we have all these beautiful layers! Beyoncé deserves all of her flowers bc she is always getting better!

Karen and Dr Carr, I can't tell you how much I love the two of you and the format of these classes. I am so glad I pulled you up one evening searching for something else. It was meant for me to find you.
We use The Husia at The AfrikanVillage. Our teacher Dr. Ray Hagins is the Chief Elder. Very inspirational teaching us who we are and how to unleash and unlearn the false doctrines of Christian religion. We must wake up and realize the game been played on the Africans race all over the planet. And it is still being played on us daily. It dressed up now and we have become comfortable living in the game.
Had a super heavy morning and what video pops up today for me to watch? This one!! Everything is always in divine order.

I love all of these discussions, especially this one where he discusses Ebonics. I studied this extensively years ago on a Watson fellowship as an undergraduate and lived in Cameroon to study the roots of pidgins, and the creolization by Africans of European languages. My wife is a native creole speaker from Guadeloupe and learning about this Africanized "french ebonics" has shed even more light on the universality of how Africans have approached bringing African meaning and tonality to a foreign language that we were forced to learn. As a graduate student now, these talks energize me toward future study topics. Thank you both and abundant blessings.

Dr. Carr has such an extensive library that needs to be organized. Sometimes he is looking for a book and has a hard time finding it. If I lived near Dr. Carr, I would develop a database and place the names of his books in it by title, author, category and placement. I am always excited for these sessions and enjoy them very much.
I knew religion and science were not separate from each other. It makes you wonder why they try so hard to make us believe it is. I needed this connection today. Thank you!

I enjoyed this discussion. My husband and I consider ourselves to be spiritual and not religious. Although we both were raised in the church, our perspectives about religion and the Bible has changed. I personally don’t plan to watch Black is King because I am careful and cautious about the energy I allow in my spirit.
