I think one reason we struggle with weight as we age is lack of energy and this causes us to slouch every minute of the day, and as a result we lose core strength and burn fewer calories. This loss of strength causes us to be less active and we lose more muscle yet we eat the same if not more. We also are attracted to comfort foods which puts on more weight meaning we have to work harder to do things so we do less to conserve our prescious energy for our jobs. Plus we are at the peak of our careers and work more which gives us more stress, plus less sleep, and both create more cortisol - ugh here comes the belly fat. At this point, it feels like a steep steep uphill climb to fix it all.
After my kids were born in 82, 84, & 87, I use to exercise with her program on tv faithfully. I hate she is off lifetime, but she is still producing videos. Go Denise!
OMG.....Denise Austin on Lifetime brings back so many warm memories. She use to be on at 8am and use to scream :"Squeeze your buns, or no one else will." LOVE HER......lol.
‘Trimming and slimming’ involves primarily hormonal testing then go from there. Nothing worked for me post menopause until I got on bioidentical hormones. I use BioTe pellets and only the was I able to get to my desired weight of 132. I lost 37 pounds. You can do ‘posture work’ and ‘abdominal tightening exercises’ ‘til the cows come home, but until you get your hormones balanced, you’ll never be able to remove that fat.
I love Denise Austin..: after I had my son she had Bounce Back After Baby workout video at that time VHS my vcr ate my tape. I used that workout years after my son. Because I have rheumatoid arthritis and the only excercise I could handle wish I could find again. That was a workout for even good for anyone that never gave birth just amazing
I hear you and it does make things more challenging but exercise is still possible. I have had both my knees replaced. I have problem with my hips too now but I had physical therapy for the hip and that helped. I walk my dog everyday, it is only 15 minutes but it's something. I can also do some of these light exercise routines that Denise Austin does. Also Jane Fonda has exercise videos too on YT that are suitable for easing into exercise and for arthritis. She has a hip replacement in the video and is still moving. There are chair exercise video too if things are very difficult to move. Chair yoga. Keeping moving is the best thing for arthritis. I know it hurts. I hurt too but exercise helps to prevent it from worsening and it increases blood supply to those areas. Exercise helps to keep things from "locking up" and "stiffening" and getting worse. Also losing weight and changing diet can help arthritis too. Doing All this is extra work but it is important and can help to improve mobility.
I like Denise's energy and positivity. Menopause is no joke! Women have to make the necessary changes to adapt to a new season of life.
Her personality is addictive. I've been watching her and doing her workouts since the VHS days in the early 90s
