In so many ways this car has been a beacon in which other brands have followed, it's amazing that even the double glazed and self closing doors appeared 30 years ago, and now it's a novelty in many models; Mercedes is the brand everybody wanna be.
These were lovely cars. Drove and sold many of the 140 series. Not the level of reliability of a w126 but a leap forward dor the S class nevertheless. If you are interested in one of these be very aware that the first gen cars may have many complex and expensive things to fix. Like the electrical harness which is biodegrading with time and can lead to many bad things...fires also. They can be custom rebuild in Germany but installation is a nightmare...
The wiring issue was only a problem in the 600 series with the v12… I own one of these and that hasn’t been an issue… but I have replaced a lot of stuff on the vehicle 😂
Nostalgia, I used to watch this show as a child. They moved a lot times from station to station back in the 90’s but always managed to find them. I loved the program. Are they still on ?
This car should have came out like 4 years earlier. It already looked old by this point. With the E38 two years later, LS400, and Seville STS, even waiting a couple years till the W210 came out, there were a lot more modern looking offerings at the time.
The sad part is that this was actually supposed to debut in the late 80s. By the time it finally went into production in the early 90s, the styling (which was too heavily derived from the w201 190E and w124 300E that debuted a decade earlier) already looked a little dated and too familiar.
@@ic1815 What in the world are you even talking about? Not a single review of the time would put a junk Cadillac over the W140. NOT A ONE. Purely delusional to even suggest it.
My dad owned two of these W140 series - a '94 and a '97. These truly were the best engineered cars in the world back in the 1980s and 1990s. The 2000 W220 replacement was awful in comparison.

A good auto technician worth their weight in salt can connect without buying a new harness. But I understand what you mean

Here’s why I won’t touch really any Mercedes post 1989 - pre 1996…

205 inches or 17ft still a huge car in 2024. It looked even more huge when I first saw one parked up in Jan 1992
Grown man ride I thank you BenZ

No Cadillac even remotely compared to this car and uh the W210 came out for the 1996 model year, not exactly a couple of years.
@@MercOne in your opinion, sure! Period and current reviews would disagree.

Even worse, this was the model for nearly the next decade
$124,000! You could get a house for that price back then 😫
BEST CAR IN THE WORLD ! THE CONCLUSION OF THIS VIDEO IS TRUE ! NOTHING COMPARED TO A MERCEDES-BENZ W140 ! NOTHING ! A MERCEDES-BENZ COLLECTOR
Ĺeather and woodgrain true love 😍
