    Brilliant! I really enjoyed sitting down with a glass of Captain Morgan's spiced rum and a packet of crisps to watch this enchanting video of a very special railway. Thanks Tim for making it. Maybe some day you will do a commentary to go with this video to tell us a little about the villages and the factories we pass by? I think if you did this, saying for example that we are now passing the "church of ? at the village of ?" that the Slovenian tourist board would be interested in using it. Just a thought as the video itself is so good.

      Hi, I'm pleased you enjoyed the ride. The history of line is truly fascinating, clearly it still serves industries along the route. The original purpose of the line was to connect Central Europe with the Adriatic Coast. This line deserves to be covered in one Micheal Portillo's excellent documentaries. I hope to return in the future to make an updated video. Hello Heinz, most East European countries are surprisingly scenic as you will see as I post more videos showing the former Yugoslavia. Next year I am planning on joining a rail-tour around Czechoslovakia, from my research it is also very scenic. Our perception of East European countries and the reality are quite different. Best wishes. Tim.

    That river is the most remarkable shade of aquamarine. Incredible.

    • @Timsvideochannel1
      @Timsvideochannel1  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The colour of the river is amazing, it is caused by dust like particles suspended in the water. The suspended material distorts the wavelengths of light, reflecting back more of the green and blue end of the spectrum, hence the colour of the river.

    • @Timsvideochannel1

      Hi Bob the flight was fine, the weather is cold and windy here in the UK, just spent the day filming the 'Spring Steam Gala' at my local heritage railway, the 'Mid Hants Railway'. Shooting video was very difficult in cold windy conditions with low winter sunshine. The locomotive featured in this video is No.SŽ 33-037 produced in 1944 by Henschel in Kassel

    Originally Austro-Hungarian, then Italian ( 1919-1945) then Yugoslav, now Slovenian.
    1943-45, Val Bacia ( Bacia torrent, headwaters of Izonzo River) along the Sta. LUCIA del Bacia ( now Most na Soci) was the scene of intense fighting between RSI ( Republican Italian) troops and the Yugoslav Tito communists.
    Bersaglieri ( 3° Rgto, 1° Batt. 3°Comp. )
    Held this railway line from Sta.Lucia to Piedicolle ( just before the Tunnel to Jesenice).
    BR 52s regularly ran this line for German Army.
    My father served there ( Sgt, Bersagliere) from 1944-45.
    I visited there in 2018....how beautiful it is now in contrast to 1945!

    • @Timsvideochannel1
      @Timsvideochannel1  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, thank you for this fascinating insight into the history of the railway, it made really interesting reading. Today the trains pass through some of the most beautiful and tranquil scenery to be found anywhere in the world. As you point out, the contrast between 1945 and today is hard to comprehend.

    i do have to ask, besides this steam train ride and the one in serbia (sargan eight), are there any more steam train rides or steam trains in general on the balkans that you'd suggest me visit?

    • @Timsvideochannel1
      @Timsvideochannel1  7 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Banovici near Tuzla in Central Bosnia is a great place to see steam action, both standard and narrow gauge. Its worth looking on the internet to see if there are any special event days or days when one of the Railtour companies are visiting.

    Excellent video, Tim! I apologise if I've asked you this before, but what editing software do you use? I'm looking for something myself now that Windows Movie Maker has disappeared.

    • @Timsvideochannel1
      @Timsvideochannel1  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is a shame Microsoft is choosing not to support Movie-maker in future, as it was good basic package, easy to use with good results. I use Pinnacle Studio mainly because I've got used to using it and dealing with its quirks. It does require a powerful computer with plenty of RAM memory, but then so do most of the other packages. I have also tried Nero and Power Director, there is little to choose between the packages, they all do a good job and the learning curve is not too painful. I find that if I am editing 4K video with a lot of correction and edits, it pays to edit not more than ten minutes at a time to avoid over taxing the computer. I then bring the short edited segments together on the timeline to create the final movie. One thing that is very important if you use more than one camera is to make sure they are all set to the same frame rate.

    • @nigelkthomas9501
      @nigelkthomas9501 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Timsvideochannel1 I've only got one video camera 🎥! I'll have a look round and see what I can find. What I don't want to do is buy something, even at moderate expense, and find it won't do what I want or that I can't work it at all!

      @Timsvideochannel1  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Gaston, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I used a Sony FDR-AX53 Handycam for most of the filming with some shots from both a GoPro Hero 3+ Black Edition - GoPro Herocam. All the cameras used their own built in mics. I do use a rode mic at times to reduce wind noise although the latest Sony cameras have pretty good built in mics. GoPro's cheapest camera (Herocam) is probably their best for ease of use and sound quality although it does not have all the bells and whistles, I find it is generally their most reliable camera.

    If you had taken this ride on a cloudy day, edit any evidence of modern times (tourists and autos), rendered the video in black & white, you'd have a perfect sequence of what train travel would have been at the time of WW2. Only thing missing is soldiers in Nazi uniforms. The shrieking steam whistles completes the image of very bad times not long ago.

    • @Timsvideochannel1
      @Timsvideochannel1  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thankfully those bad old times are no longer with us, but you are right about how this train recreates the past, such as in the 1964 film "The Train" in which a German colonel loads a train with French art treasures to send to Germany and the Resistance must stop it without damaging the cargo.
