Before I watch I just want to tell you that your content has improved so much and I love it. I can't wait to see what 2017 brings for the channel. THANK YOU GREG. 200K HYPEEE
It sounds silly but you get a ton of respect from me for this. I had to throw out a bunch of reviews/opinions on the XPS once I found out that mostly all of them glossed over or straight up didn't mention major issues like the coil whine (which apparently hasn't been addressed in Kaby Lake even though its been a long time issue now). Main reason I found out about that was because I was suspicious that so many video reviews did nothing but praise this $1500+ machine like there were no flaws.
Nathan Bullock i dropped my nokia 3310 yesterday and now i am living in a mcdonalds. When I dropped the 3310 from the second floor in my flat,it knocked down the entire building!
Thanks for being the only reviewer I've thus seen who has seriously addressed the plague of coil whine on the XPS 13. I've had 4 of them, and they've all been unusable. Admittedly, I am easily annoyed by noise. But, if you're deaf (as Dell engineers clearly are), this is the perfect laptop for you! ;D
*PLEASE UPVOTE SO EVERYONE CAN SEE* GUYS! this issue can be fixed by lowering processor frequency! I'm having a secong laptop now which has it. But when I limit processor frequency in Windows by, say, 60%, it becomes much quiter, when I set processor maximum perfomance to 30% it disappears completely What to do: 1 Limit the balanced power plan to 50-70%(Windows doesn't take Turbo boost into consideration so 70% would be only of base frequency), and use it when you don't need that much performance, like during browsing, editing words documents etc, the laptop will stay extremely quiet. 2 set to max perfomance mode only when you're doing heavy workloads, Note, that coil whining DISAPPEARS during maximum CPU load. It is only present when processor is working at high frequency and mostly idling.
I can confirm that. Still bothers me pretty much. I've got this on my Omen 15 gaming laptop, and what scares me the most is the whine is getting more intense over time. Iam using the power saving mode often because iam mostly just browsing and rarely when i use the max performance mode it sometimes get real loud. But one thing i've investigated is, when the laptop runs for a long period of time, it doesn't start whining even on max perf. But when i restart the system it does it instantly. At first it only does when i move my mouse, and after few minutes it does it constantly. Doing any sort action though idles the whine, even opening a folder idles the whine while its opening but once the processor frequency idles it begins to whine. It dissapointed me quite a few since i was hoping for a good non problematic laptop for such price. When you lay down in bed for example and the room is real quiet the whine gets extremely annoying.
Coil whine is extremely common with the GTX 1080, mine has it. Well actually any really high-end gpu often has it, both AMD and Nvidia, the Fury X was notorious for it.
Rizzen I bought a gigabyte 1070 windforce and that nigga whines like a biatch.Returned it and got another one and the same whiny noise again.God daaayum
I'm so glad I never had any coil wine issue with any PC components or laptop ... on the other hand, I had so many issues with FANS !! I always end up with a stubborn fan that make weird ticking noise. Can be a Case/Heatsink fan or GPU fan.
This video saved the day, I've been attempting to log my own coil whine issue with HP (ZBook 17 G6) and they asked me to try and record it with my smartphone. I did a pretty good job but the tech said they couldn't hear anything. So I made them watch this. Big up!
Congratulations on the massive increase in subscriptions! It really doesn't come as a suprise since the quality of your content has only gotten better (which I still hope it does)!
all computers have Inductors but some manufactures use different types or ratings, also high pitched squealing is the coil vibrating, my mac doesn't make that noise, so Dell must have used lower quality cheaper inductors.
I just subscribed to you because you are the first Tech TH-camr that has the guts to talk about this issue; I can't stand that noise. I won't returned mine because I bought it for $833, so I can make some profit by selling it. Keep the good work!
At minimum put Dell on notice with the defect with your unit, otherwise consider sending it back as the noise might be a canary warning you of future failure.
I just bought this laptop, and so thankful I came across your video! I edit photos on this laptop and the noise was annoying. Im gonna hang on to it for a week before I call it a bust and return it.
I feel so spoiled with computers now. Growing up I remember the sound of optical drives spooling up as they read data. Now a days if I hear my fans I think something must be wrong with my computer.
OMG RIGHT!!!i recently got a new laptop . A upgrade from my 2013 lenovo laptop to a 2023 lenovo laptop.I hear a very quiet static noise when i put my ear next to the keyboard . Like a electrical noise or something if i get my ear from the keyboard in a quiet room u BARELY hear it or u cant even hear it when alone and in a normal position.
The regulator would not be put onto the chip, a System On A Chip, SOC normally involves integrated Memory, GPU, every thing required to run a system, essentially but a Intel i7 or what ever is not a SOC.
Great video! I've heard this so much lately from electronic devices lately. Not just CPUs GPUs, and SSDs but even stoves, I just never knew what it was called. Thanks!
You can do that with all multi-touchpads. It's really amazing btw and the main reason I don't use a mouse on laptopts anymore. Also, tapping with two fingers at once is a right-click.
Noob Fury u serious this feature has been around for years and other gestures for navigating please look it up you can do many things with two or more fingers on the touchpad
Noob Fury bruh 3 clicks is windows button 4 clicks is the notification center 3 fingers swipe to right or left is to qlt tab easly but going right and left 3 fingers down is desktop and I forgor the rest xD all this can be done on a asus laptop with smart gesture
Finally found my problem. Thanks for explaining! It sounds like a spinning mechanical hard drive and it was very consing when I heard it doming out of a laptop with SSD.
Well done Greg. You are the only reviewer that is mentioning this problem. I hope Dell finally pay attention and fix the issue. It's been going on for years with no fix in sight. I had to get rid of my XPS 13 as coil whine made it unusable. I don't know what laptop to go for now. XPS = horrible coil whine. Lenovo 700/900 = vacuum cleaner sounding fan. Asus = I've experienced display issues and there's no backlit keyboard on many thin & lights. Maybe I have to give HP a go or give up and go back to unbelievably expensive and comparatively poorly featured macbooks...
My Razer Blade Stealth has a bit of noise however after listening to this video now that I know it's coil whine I'm put at rest. Although I thought it was a much worse problem
Not much tbh. Even if you went a 7th gen i7, you could save so much more by staying with the 6th gen since you won't need a new motherboard. If you compare the same range of both gen cpu, it is only about 5% - %10 difference for much mor price. (since it requires a new mobo)
+ Avvoider It seems I am mistaken. Thankyou for correcting me. But yes, regardless, an upgrade to Kaby Lake would not be recommended unless the price is good. I also have an i5 6500 and it will continue to serve me for many years.
How are you liking your Yoga 910? I love mine! I picked one up after watching your review! Keep up the great work! Can't wait to see what's coming up this year.
thank you for addressing this! I just bought an XPS 13 and this sound occurred. I sent it back to Dell describing it to them and my mousepad was also not properly installed as in the left corner was scraping against the frame. I just got it back and the sound coil whine still exist. My trackpad is also different than the one I originally had. Its a lot more slick and glossy than the previous one. not sure if I like it. If It annoys me more, I'll definitely consider returning and send them this video so they understand what I mean!
Oh my gosh! Finally! someone said it! I love my XPS13 but I have the same issue! I found that mine typically happens after a restart and the noise is on the left side of the mouse for me. It is made worse by scrolling. My fix is using a bluetooth mouse and avoiding a restart for as long as possible. It is still one of the best laptops I have ever used!
You're the first reviewer to identify this problem. I have the skylake model and it pains me to use the computer because of this. Unfortunately, my laptop's coil whine is persistent no matter the task it is running.
Jan 2023 - just opened my brand new laptop tonight and here is this buzzing sound- so they never fixed it apparently. My last dell xps13 from a couple years ago didn't do this though, is was an i5
Hi Salazar. I'm planning on getting the upcoming Dell XPS 15 9560. I'm going to pick it up once my local best Buy gets a config of it so I get that Geek Squad protection a few minutes from my house. Now, I'm getting this only a couple months after having bought the Razer Blade Stealth. The Razer Blade Stealth had this exact problem, the coil whine and it drove me CRAZY. I had it for months, returning it over 5 times until finally they just gave me a notice saying they'll actually give me my money back. Godsend. But - I NEVER, EVER want to hear the coil whine again. Is it safe to get the XPS 15?
Have you opened this thing up to figure out which capacitor was coil wining? I think you can generally put a padding of sorbothane around the suspect components but I havent tried on this model. Think you can give it a shot to see? Id love to see the solution.
Last year I bought Latitude 5470 (6820HQ) and returned it because of coil noise (it emerged after ten days of usage). Recently I bought 5480 (7820HQ) - probably not the most clever decision - and I got even more irritating noise just after I brought it home. So, I'm going to return it as well, and, for sure, I won't buy any DELL laptops in future.
No hammer will break it... First of all you need some salt water and pour it into the wents.. Dont worry salt neutralizes conductivity of water you'll be fine.. Next step is to take some butter/toothpaste and spread it all over keyboard with knife/toothbrush dont worry it will help reducing heat making your pc work faster and cooler after you clean it. Last step will be putting it into oven for good 30 minutes, if you see smoke dont worry its normal
Great video. I am thinking about getting this laptop and I'm wondering if the problem still exists. I noticed that the email you received stated that they were working on a fix? Wondering if a fix had been implemented yet. Hoping to get this or the new Thinkpad carbon X1 to run Linux.
Thank you so much for this video. Consumers like us need video reviews like these. We pay hard-earned money for our gadgets to enjoy them and be productive--not be annoyed or irritated or get stressed by issues like these. Dell is a well-known computer company that's been around for years and I respect them. But these kinds of issues should have been taken cared of while in the production and testing stage. It's unfair for us consumers to experience these kinds of stuff. The reason I got on this channel is because I was and still am considering a Dell XPS 13 at the moment. This is a very valuable information. Hope the coil whine disappears bro or Dell replaces your XPS 13 with a new one when they've seen this video. Thanks again. I've subscribed.
Jason Cao inferior by who's standards? Specs don't mean everything. If it renders a video faster than this machine does by using FCPX optimization then why would I get the Kaby Lake XPS13?
Jason Cao the comparison is fair. People act like you buy a MacBook to use programs that aren't optimized for it 💀💀💀 I hate that fucking argument. Why would I buy a MacBook for an Adobe render? Just stupid. You're not only paying for the machine, which yes, is overpriced but you're also paying for a fully optimized OS and elegance. Does it warranty $1600 after taxes? No. But I can say it's worth the $1250 I paid for it if you can get over the specs and look at how the machine runs as a whole. Inferior screen, battery & keyboard yet it's the classiest, best engineered product at its price point? With TB3 capabilities? If you have the money, it's worth it.
Jason Cao and the Dell drives you crazy with the coil whine so much that you won't enjoy using all its specs. I have the Macbook with no Touchbar and a Dell but the Macbook suits me fine without Windows and I hardly ever plug in anything into my computers for example. Plus if you do photo-editing, video-editing etc you're most likely not on the go so plugging in an adapter or a usb key is the same as far as inconvenience goes. The added cost of buying adapters is the only valid argument IMO. Also, the 13 inch macbook pro is an ultrabook really and they're made to be used on the go, and people who use a laptop on a train, plane, café aren't gonna be taking with them usb keys, external hard drives or sd cards to edit anything. Even with a laptop with all the ports you still have to carry with you the stuff you want to plug in into those ports. You can edit stuff just fine on the baseline 13 model by the way, just not as fast as with machines that have quad core i7 CPUs and dedicated graphic cards obviously. I don't care about raw specs anyway personally
Yeah people are just Apple haters. If you don't OWN the product, don't speak against it. I just got my MBP 2016 and I'm even more blown away now than I was when I first used it in the Apple Store. The integration in between iMessage on your Phone and MacBook is nuts. Copy & paste on different devices using clipboard is nuts. The performance on the baseline 2016 model is more than enough to edit 4K, whether it be choppy at sometimes or not. 1080p is a breeze. 2.7K is a breeze. This keyboard is the best thing I've ever used and the portability is second to none. The trackpad gestures are amazing sorry this is just the best laptop on the planet right now when used with Mac OS Sierra. I would pick this MacBook over any other computer or laptop in existence at this price point - assuming I don't want to game. Even if I did? Buy a GTX 970 for $150 used and an Akitio TB2 Hookup for $200. There... now I can game on Bootcamp. Truly no substantial faults to this machine whatsoever.
I have the xps13 skylake, and I have almost NO coil whine! I just found out I have a very faint sound when I get my ear really close to the keyboard, but I can't even hear it at night when there is no ambient noise at all... Have my model for a year now, very very VERY pleased with it!
This is interesting.. I didn't know CPUs could produce coil whine. BTW, you ought to make a video explaining coil whine if you haven't yet -- you do a great job explaining things like that!
I have like this noise that comes from my case, can't really tell where it's coming from- it's not really the kinda crackling like you've shown- a little louder and lower, "rougher" sound, like the sound of an old computer loading stuff. It's about a 4 months old build with brand new components (z170, 1080, 6700k), Only happens when I leave the PC on for quite a while (like 2-3 days) and when doing Battlefield 1, problem solves itself after being turned off for a while. Any idea on what it might be?
I have a similar noise in my 2015 version XPS 13. I had battery Cpu fan and speakers replaced. But non of that helped at all.My screen makes a buzzing noise WHEN I SCROLL MY TRACK PAD. please check for this too I hope im the only one.
how about the xps 15 9560 4K ? It shows up many issues spread over online such as Screen Flickering, Coil Whine, and so on....I just want your recommendation should i buy Dell XPs 15 9560 4K because I like the specification and design.
Love that outro music, can we get it on all the new vids? lol, glad to see that the laptop is so good that even with that issue you still enjoy it. Debating on getting a Surface Pro for notes, but not sure if it is worth it considering I already have a fairly recent notebook.
I thought my Dell XPS 13 (9350) had coil whine but I realized the coil whine/hiss sound was coming from the speakers. I updated the sound drivers and it was fixed. I can't say if its the same problem you're experiencing but I'd say its worth a shot.
My friend has the same laptop, but the only time he hears any coil whine is when the laptop is being charged and used at the same time. He bought an extra charger just to make sure there wasn't a problem with the original. I wouldn't know why, but my only guess would be the slight boost gained from charging from an outlet. Even that to me doesn't make any sense.
From what I just read on Dell forums 15s were also suffering from coil whine, at least for the past 2 years. Also, newest revisions of XPS 13 motherboards still suffer from this issue.
My Skylake XPS 13 makes a strange perpetual noise too but it's nothing that you really notice unless you put your ear up to it. Happy with the XPS 13, but it's still not a MacBook Air replacement to me for a couple reasons. Otherwise, this is good hardware
I also bought a Dell Xps 13 KabyLake some time ago. its only noticeable in full silent room when your ear is like 10 cm above the keyboard. And even then it's most of the time acceptable. In my case the coilwhine got quite noticeable when i plugged in the charger, but i rarely work while i am charging my notebook (thats what i have my desktop for). Still recommended device.
This is absolutely very helpful. I have the same problem with i7 10th gen. Already got a replacement unit but the sound is still there tho. Just wondering should I return the replacement too? or should I just deal with it? also is it gonna affect the unit? like is ot gonna cause any major problems in the future or its just something I shouldn't care about?
I have the same issue on mine Asus Zenbook. It only bothers a bit when you are browsing - when playing it doesn't. And it is probably half the sound you showed, however the times before that sound enables itself is quite similar.
I fu**ing HATE coil whine!! Expensive hardware should not sound like this!!
totally agree

Sounds like your GPU is very dirty. Clean it out with a can of compressed air.

I did lol. It did do that before I cleaned it though. Still, under medium load, hits 80C :/
*PLEASE UPVOTE SO EVERYONE CAN SEE*
GUYS! this issue can be fixed by lowering processor frequency! I'm having a secong laptop now which has it. But when I limit processor frequency in Windows by, say, 60%, it becomes much quiter, when I set processor maximum perfomance to 30% it disappears completely
What to do:
1 Limit the balanced power plan to 50-70%(Windows doesn't take Turbo boost into consideration so 70% would be only of base frequency), and use it when you don't need that much performance, like during browsing, editing words documents etc, the laptop will stay extremely quiet.

thanks !
Now did you can do something for your laptop?
It worked for me thanks !
Coil whine is useful to know your fps without looking.
"it's not a bug, it's a feature!"
Yeah, my old 660 Ti got it above 3200 fps.
I forgot about coil whine even existing!!!!

That actually made me laugh.
AyyMD!
Kamran Keyium watch those temps lol, dont let it get past 80c
I thought ur saying I adjusted the fan curve just to fix the whining probleme
cuz yeah some time the whine come from fan automatic rotation.

I see what you did there ;-)
dual xeon or i7? (1080p gaming/ steaming and editing) i have a gtx 1070
its a joke...
Nick Grace 8 or 10 core i7 with good cooling and over clock and you will be a lot better off than with a dual Xeon system
i7 bro, ftw
I find coil wind kinda nostalgic. It reminds me of past laptops I had as a child. 💓

yeap, my xps 13 skylake has this problem, specially when editing.
Is it still usable? My latitude 7480 is facing the same issue
Thank you for being the ONE youtuber who gives volume warnings haha
Didn't know coil whine exist on laptops.
Coil whine exists in everything that has a voltage/current regulator
its really bad on these xps
i wonder what ryzen will do since it's all SOC.
That means like regulator on chip not ?
Curious what they will bring!
It will probably have the new amd stock cooler which is pretty good.
Thanks!

Well done Greg.
You are the only reviewer that is mentioning this problem.
I hope Dell finally pay attention and fix the issue. It's been going on for years with no fix in sight. I had to get rid of my XPS 13 as coil whine made it unusable.

I have a Dell e5470 and my laptop has some serious coil whine...... I think it's because I got the quad core i7 version but yeah serious coil whine
jairtzinio Got the same thing on my latitude e6410.
i got the same thing on my precision 3510
+Fat Max Thats odd I don't get any coil whine from my e6410 ATG. guess it varies from unit to unit.
sparkplug1018 Interesting... what model was yours? I have the core i7 620m with the Nvidia 3100m.
Fat Max Mine has the i7 with Intel HD graphics, just the ATG variant. Maybe I just don't hear it because its the rugged version.
My Razer Blade Stealth has a bit of noise however after listening to this video now that I know it's coil whine I'm put at rest. Although I thought it was a much worse problem
what will be the performance bump by upgrading i5 6500 to a 7th gen is it worth it? Nice video !!👍
Not much tbh. Even if you went a 7th gen i7, you could save so much more by staying with the 6th gen since you won't need a new motherboard.
If you compare the same range of both gen cpu, it is only about 5% - %10 difference for much mor price. (since it requires a new mobo)
Steven Fores thanks! I also saw something saying that 7 the gen is the worst generation in terms of performance bump over the last gen.
Incorrect. You do not need new motherboard for kaby lake. Definetely not worth an upgrade. Few percent more performance vs skylake.
Avvoider thanks!
+ Avvoider It seems I am mistaken. Thankyou for correcting me.
But yes, regardless, an upgrade to Kaby Lake would not be recommended unless the price is good. I also have an i5 6500 and it will continue to serve me for many years.
Thank you for addressing this issue publicly... I've been driven crazy by the coil whine of XPS....
I have an older XPS 13, and yes, it also does this.
Strange, I have an older XPS 13 and I have no coil whine.
Dell back at it again with their quality products ..
You said that was the worst coil whine you've ever heard, I thought you bought an r9 fury?
Yep. Coil whine is much quieter in the Fury.
I couldn't hear the coil whine because my laptop has louder coil whine... bummer
Does it also exist in MBP?
How are you liking your Yoga 910? I love mine! I picked one up after watching your review! Keep up the great work! Can't wait to see what's coming up this year.
Sounds like.... Radiation :)
thank you for addressing this!
That moment when you realize you should have stuck with the yoga
Nope, this laptop is still better than the Yoga IMO
Thanks for the video. Great articulation and overall delivery! You have a talent for this, or have worked hard :)
i have the exact laptop and no coil whine problems for me
Oh my gosh! Finally! someone said it! I love my XPS13 but I have the same issue! I found that mine typically happens after a restart and the noise is on the left side of the mouse for me. It is made worse by scrolling. My fix is using a bluetooth mouse and avoiding a restart for as long as possible. It is still one of the best laptops I have ever used!
at first i was like lol why my sound not working.
You're the first reviewer to identify this problem. I have the skylake model and it pains me to use the computer because of this. Unfortunately, my laptop's coil whine is persistent no matter the task it is running.
Call dell. They come to you to fix it within a couple of days. Their customer service is great.
Jan 2023 - just opened my brand new laptop tonight and here is this buzzing sound- so they never fixed it apparently. My last dell xps13 from a couple years ago didn't do this though, is was an i5
they should sell their crap roughly 700 bucks cheaper.
Thanks for this feedback!
Annnnnd now i know what coil whine is. I always thought it was something to do with fans, whoops.
Is it safe to get the XPS 15?
coil whine... people's worse enemy!!! jesus this laptop has coil whine
yeah Jesus christ for a 1500$ laptop coil whine is definitely acceptable right?
Salazar you are a great tech video producer. I think youre even better than barnacles nerdgasam.
Sounded like HDD noise to me.
That's exactly what I said in the video. This laptop has no HDD...
Salazar Studio yeah I posted that comment before I watched all the way through the video. great video, keep it up.
Have you opened this thing up to figure out which capacitor was coil wining? I think you can generally put a padding of sorbothane around the suspect components but I havent tried on this model. Think you can give it a shot to see? Id love to see the solution.
It sounds like failed hdd lol
DARKRENGIN PRODT. Do they still put those in laptops?
DARKRENGIN PRODT. This costs 1500 bucks why wouldn't it have a decent ssd?
*Edit* it does have an ssd
he just says it sounds like, doesn't seem to me that he's saying a failed hdd is the cause
tuiso lol do i sound that threatening?i just stated something and it came out sounding aggressive.
Troll King ??? who said anything about aggressive?
Last year I bought Latitude 5470 (6820HQ) and returned it because of coil noise (it emerged after ten days of usage). Recently I bought 5480 (7820HQ) - probably not the most clever decision - and I got even more irritating noise just after I brought it home. So, I'm going to return it as well, and, for sure, I won't buy any DELL laptops in future.
kids on tech forums - "How do I fix dis laptop"
smash it with a hammer - build a tower instead.
LemonPlays So you got a 1080m?
1080m isn't a thing
Did you also pay 700$ more for the same exact thing? I did that, but returned it, build a desktop and a bought a ultrabook
Deividasma yeah, you're so evil haha
my 1080p xps 13 does this as well. I love this laptop though, it's got great battery life
Neal Is the noise really loud or unbearable?
hahaha my 5+ years old laptop doesn't have that bad of coil wine
Great video. I am thinking about getting this laptop and I'm wondering if the problem still exists. I noticed that the email you received stated that they were working on a fix? Wondering if a fix had been implemented yet. Hoping to get this or the new Thinkpad carbon X1 to run Linux.
Dell makes the WORST computer products known to man. I will NEVER get another dell product so long as I live.
Dell used to make even shittier products. Ever since they went private again, their quality has improved
Hudson Ball
I had no problems
Really? I disagree, the xps lineup have some of the best laptops on the market
My old Dell laptop from 2010 electrocutes me when I play games or when it overheats
Hudson Ball Try some acer laptop then.
MacBook Pro 2016 base model no coil whine same price #TimCookTheWinner
Have you owned one?
Just curious. The computer behind you in the video, wasn't it water cooled or am I mistaken?
Mate. I get asked this question everyday. The one I reviewed had no such problem.I wonder how common it is or isnt.
Amazing video yet again
This is interesting.. I didn't know CPUs could produce coil whine. BTW, you ought to make a video explaining coil whine if you haven't yet -- you do a great job explaining things like that!
Jeremy W Kind of already explained it in this video.
Salazar Studio True, I was just thinking a more in-depth look might be interesting. Anyway, thanks for the great videos!
Salazar Studio
are you gay ?
I have like this noise that comes from my case, can't really tell where it's coming from- it's not really the kinda crackling like you've shown- a little louder and lower, "rougher" sound, like the sound of an old computer loading stuff. It's about a 4 months old build with brand new components (z170, 1080, 6700k), Only happens when I leave the PC on for quite a while (like 2-3 days) and when doing Battlefield 1, problem solves itself after being turned off for a while. Any idea on what it might be?
Awesome video!
Would you recommend the Rx 470 from a r7950?
I have a similar noise in my 2015 version XPS 13. I had battery Cpu fan and speakers replaced. But non of that helped at all.My screen makes a buzzing noise WHEN I SCROLL MY TRACK PAD. please check for this too I hope im the only one.
1080p is mine.
Hey Salazar. Did you apply the fix to your 2 GTX 1070's on the issue of the overheating vrms? If not could you make a video on it.
how about the xps 15 9560 4K ? It shows up many issues spread over online such as Screen Flickering, Coil Whine, and so on....I just want your recommendation should i buy Dell XPs 15 9560 4K because I like the specification and design.
How did you fix eventually? I downgraded my bios once it works but now the screeching is back!
Holy crap I was wondering why my 970 was making a hissing kinda of noise, and this video answered it
Thank you for the info. I returned the yoga 900 i7 because of a terrible high pitch fan noise.
So...did you use it's warranty? If not, is this really a problem?
I really liked the outro, super funny and clever
If you are gonna return it, what will you replace it with? Razer? Dongebook (Pro)?
YOU ARE TEARING ME APART LISA
My 2016 Razer Blade does this sometimes. I think it's the SSD - is the one in the XPS 13 a Samsung unit?
This is absolutely very helpful. I have the same problem with i7 10th gen. Already got a replacement unit but the sound is still there tho. Just wondering should I return the replacement too? or should I just deal with it? also is it gonna affect the unit? like is ot gonna cause any major problems in the future or its just something I shouldn't care about?
What happened to you about this
What is the microphone you're using to record the coil/yourself?
Just bought 2018 xps 13 9370 4k i5.
*Insane* coil whine in my unit. Returning it on monday.
I know this was uploaded over an year and a half ago. Is coil wine a problem to the hardware in a long run?
Are all the fans in the RGB build set to exhaust air? I can't tell if the one on top of the CPU cooler is intake or exhaust.
I have the same issue on mine Asus Zenbook. It only bothers a bit when you are browsing - when playing it doesn't. And it is probably half the sound you showed, however the times before that sound enables itself is quite similar.
Huh. Didn't know laptops could get coil whine. Does the blade stealth and hp envy 13 have weird coil whine issues?
does that bios have a decent layout? i mean, can you setup cstate? and disable VRM spectrum, make's my skylake build complete coilwhine free
My Dell Inspiration I7559 (I7-6700HQ and 960M) has insane coil whine.. Its only 2 months old should I warranty it or live with it?
