For those who are curious or don't already know, this song is about the 588th Night Bomber Regiment, later the 46th Taman Guards Flight Regiment, an all-female unit of Soviet night bomber pilots who fought in the Eastern Front of WW2. Although women were initially barred from forming all-female combat units, Major Marina Raskova, a Soviet pilot who broke numerous gender barriers and became the Soviet Air Force's first female navigator, was permitted to do so using her position in the military and personal contacts with Stalin. She appointed another female combat pilot, Major Yevdokiya Bershanskaya, to lead the unit, which consisted of young, all-female volunteers, most of whom were barely in their twenties. From the start, the unit was seen as a joke and a low priority by the Soviet hierarchy, and were underequipped and given outdated Polikarpov Po-2 biplanes, which at that time were being used primarily as training aircraft. The regiment was given its first combat action on the 12th of June, 1942. Over time, the regiment learned how to best utilize their planes as low-altitude night fighters. Although slow and lacking in bomb capacity, the Po-2 was very maneuverable owing to its biplane design, and its maximum speed was slower than the stall speed of more modern German aircraft like the Bf-109. Shutting the engines of their planes off as they approached their targets, they would glide low--sometimes only a few meters above German positions--and drop bombs directly into trenches, fortifications and other targets of opportunity, near-silent and unseen. They also performed vital relief operations for Soviet forces, dropping supplies and other much-needed equipment from their planes. The only sound the planes made as they glided in was the sound of the wind blowing between the aircraft's wooden wing spars. Reportedly, the Germans likened this to the sound of broomsticks clattering together. This is the origin of the regiment's unofficial nickname: _Nachthexen_ , or the "Night Witches". Many in the regiment would go on to earn high battle honors, with Raskova and Bershanskaya both receiving the titles of Hero of the Soviet Union, the highest distinction one could achieve in the Soviet Union, and Bershanskaya remains the only woman to ever be awarded the Order of Suvorov. Raskova was killed in action in 1943, while Bershanskaya survived the war and later married a pilot from another night fighter regiment, raised three daughters, and passed away at the age of 69 in 1982.
If I remember correctly, and please correct if I'm wrong, but I recall hearing that they didn't even carry parachutes on missions to save as much weight as possible to their planes' extremely low carrying capacity

Damn, fuck. This cover hits as hard as the original does live. You fucking outdid yourself this time. Literally my favorite song of Sabaton done by my favorite cover daddy. Wait, that came out wrong....

As a follow up. I have learned so much about history from Sabaton and the Sabaton History channel. Learned way more than I ever would've in school that's for damn sure.
I love this song, your first two Sabaton covers are what introduced me to the band, and I haven't stopped listening to them yet since then. Happy too see there's another one for this great song.
Dude you killed this! Sabaton paired with your vocals? Makes my day! I can't wait to see what else you come out with! Maybe the Winged Hussars will Arrive??
No Bullets Fly. Ive been wanting to cover it since I heard JYs dusney covers like 4 years ago. Now that hes covering my favourite band ever, Ive been asking for it. No Bullets Fly, The entirety of The Art of War album, their singles, Night Witches, Primo Victoria, and 7734 are some of their best songs.
If we're on a thing of Sabaton aviation songs, might I recommend Red Baron and/or No Bullets Fly? Both are of aviation, Red Baron being about the Red Baron or Manfred Von Richtofen and No Bullets Fly being about the story of an American B-17 bomber severely wounded and a German fighter pilot actually escorting them out of German airspace and into Allied airspace.
My two favorite things about your music. 1.) Kick ass jams 2.) The faces ya make Jammin' on a keyboard. Awesome cover, spectacular jam. Good Job; man's unable to disappoint.🤘🤘
Amazing song! Something I noticed: Sabaton sounds like they are historians retelling a battle decades later. Jonathan sounds like he was there, fighting in the battle. Both sound great! Jonathan, keep it up. I'll be sure to check out that new song!
So glad to see you’re escaping the anime! Always love hearing your voice in powerful songs like this. Also, so excited for Divided! I’ve had your originals mixed into my rockin bops playlist for the past month, your vibes are impeccable 🤌🏻
Amazing! Definitely your best Sabaton cover. You really belted it out. Plus, you had that whole wall of sound thing going on that makes it sound even more powerful. I assume that was SixteenInMono. Great job!
Next Sabaton cover needs to be Great War. The raw emotion, dark sarcasm, and regret oozing from that song makes it legendary. Would love to see you cover it!
I love this band.
Don't forget to presave my new original song... it's going to be HEAVY

I’m just waiting for Sabaton to notice these videos and bring Jonathan in on an album like they did the Russian cover artist
🤣🤘 That would rock!
I’m sure Jonathan would be ecstatic
They did notice him on Twitter before, IIRC.
Yup, It will be Great.🤟🤟🔥🔥🔥
Russian cover artist is a mother of understatement for radio tapok
