  • Commissioned and performed by Staley High School (Kansas City, Missouri) on their 2023 Civil Rights Tour with Dan Forrest, piano, and Isaac Greene, guitar. Conducted by Tracy Resseguie.
    Filmed live at Furman University's Daniel Chapel and Taylors Mill (Greenville, SC).
    Audio and Videography by Jered McKenna.
    Music by Dan Forrest / Text by Charles Anthony Silvestri.
    Sheet Music copyrighted and published by The Music of Dan Forrest, available at beckenhorstpress.com/let-me-l.... (Also available for SSAA or TTBB choirs).
    From the composer: "Written as a statement of support for, and allyship with, our Black brothers and sisters (as well as all people of color). Too often, in any aspect of life, we explain away other people’s experiences instead of seeking to understand experiences that differ from our own; we’re so busy talking about our own viewpoints that we fail to listen to the voices we most need to hear. I asked Tony Silvestri to write a text called let me listen that could function as a personal statement from me to people I need to listen to- especially to my friends of color. This the text that resulted- words that speak powerfully for any situation where we need to listen to those who have been marginalized or mistreated, not heard or believed."
    let me listen
    We come from different places,
    You and I,
    on different paths we journey;
    let me walk beside you for a while -
    let me listen.
    So briefly do our lonely paths converge,
    Yours and mine,
    along this human journey;
    what hollow loss to never hear your song -
    let me listen.
    Let me listen,
    let me listen as you tell your story:
    Your triumphs and your tears,
    Your trials and your fears.
    Your story never has been mine to tell -
    so let me listen.
    And if a silence is your choice to keep,
    then I will keep it with you;
    as long as we walk together,
    You and I,
    I will listen.
    Too long you’ve waited, too long,
    to share your journey, your song -
    so let me listen.
    - Charles Anthony Silvestri

    I'm in tears! the melodies convey the message so well, it evokes the sweetness of knowing someone is ready to listen, earnestly and eagerly ❤.

    Love the contrast of concert setting and students outside communing.

    Sometimes, in my desperate need to believe in the sacred, it is only the music of Dan Forrest that keeps my hopes alive.

      Well now I have to look up the rest of his music!
      I have the same struggle. ❤

    My choir is doing this tomorrow. Wish us well! It’s probably my favorite song all year.
    These kids do an excellent job! I can only imagine the teenage eye rolls over having to stand in front of each other and hold hands while they sang it - but they were good sports. Looked like they were even enjoying it a little. 😊

    Love this!! The words and melodies, the filmmaking, yes, but I love how it made me think how I could listen more...and be *content* to listen. I loved listening to this.

    The Kansas City Womens Chorus sang this in our concert last weekend. This is the video I had in mind while singing it and never failed to be moved by it. I work for a company of therapists, Minds Matter LLC, who work with people with TBI. The tie-in here is inescapable.

      I'm in the KCWC, too, and am a mental health clinician with ReDiscover, for teens. I have the lyrics framed and displayed in my therapy space.

    Love the message. You can always count on Tony for some great lyrics. I also love the guitar and piano blend.

    Estos chicos están tan acostumbrados a cantar con tanta excelencia que ni siquiera lloran. Si yo cantara así en un coro estaría llorando desde el minuto uno de placer y de emoción, inconteniblemente; y con la piel de gallina tan acentuada que sería peligroso para mi salud.

    I could do without all the racial nonsense. I was raised in a color-blind society and I resent it when normal people go along with the demonic government policy of making everything about race rather than merit. I was enjoying this performance while working and happened to walk by the computer and see this was a promotion of government racism. Dan's wonderful music is polluted by this influence by the demons who call themselves "government" rather than the glorification of God I have come to expect from Dan Forrest and the people who perform his music.

    Stop all of this looping in JESUS name! Thank YOU! LORD! Be ONLY FOLLOWERS OF JESUS...PRAY ONLY TO GOD THE FATHER .. ABBA through OUR ONLY INTERCESSOR, the SON..JESUS CHRIST..IN HIS NAME...at the PROMPTING of the HOLY SPIRIT...THE THREE IN ONE..ONLY! Mary always points to GOD...but she does not intercede...JESUS constantly makes intercession for us..(see BIBLE) Please, work TOGETHER...PSALMS 133 (COME AND GET ME, NOW Ephesians 3:20-21.

      This does not belong here. This is about people believing in one another. Please leave Religion out of this; have some respect for the view of the poet and composer!
