The book provides everything you need to set sail upon the Dark Caribbean to take on the Royal Navy AND the denizens of Davy Jones' locker. The hardcover arrives in stores on September 19th carrying an MSRP of $39.99 (which includes the PDF if you order from Free League). The PDF normally carries an MSRP of $19.99 at DriveThruRPG but it is currently not available there.
Note After hearing from Free League Publishing, the winner of the hardcover copy of Pirate Borg won't be announced until September 19th, the game's release date.

My favorite has to be Long John Silver from Treasure Island. Both because he's the "original" figure, that greatly influenced how we think of pirates today, but also because I remember to this day reading about him as a boy, and I think he must have been the first literary character that really scared me. Intelligent and honorable on one second, but cunning and treacherous and ruthless in the next! And let's not forget about his parrot "Captain Flint". Amazing character!
Hondo Ohnaka is the best pirate! His brazen greed is priceless, dancing between ruthlessness and amicable. You can always trust Hondo... to be Hondo! It's not if he betray you, but when. He'll be smiling when he does.
For the book (10/10! Wow!) I admit I'm not big on pirate genre, but the dark and mysterious sea is a PERFECT fit for a game like this.
Favourite Pirate has to be Guybrush Threepwood from the Monkey Island games. No other pirate has given me such joy for so many years in endless replays.
This book seems so good it makes me want the next darkest dungeon to be pirate themed, can't wait for this one.

I think the Pirate Queen Grace O'Malley is my favourite because she is a fascinating historical figure. She earned her reputation as a fierce and powerful leader through battles with the English and other Irish clans. She is also responsible for the brilliant condemnation of her son's cowardice in battle, "Are you trying to hide in my arse, the place that you came out of?"
Makes me laugh every time I remember it.
Bartholomew Roberts, otherwise known as "Black Bart," who was the most successful pirate of the Golden Age having taken over 470 ships during his career.
Favourite pirate would be William Dampier.
He wasn't great as a pirate but he had a very adventurous life.
He was on the expeditions that both marooned and rescued Alexander Selkirk (inspiration for Crusoe), the later with Woodes Rogers (the pirate hunter).
He charted ocean currents and winds, and his work on these was used for ages by the navy.
He seems almost like a Forest Gump type of chap, bumbling through epic events and being more interested in waves and avocados.
Rubbish pirate though, but a damn fine navigator and naturalist.
1st recorded person to have circumnavigated the world 3 times.
Died penniless, but outlived most of his contemporaries.
He seems to have been the inspiration for Lemuel Gulliver, of Gulliver's Travels.
My favorite pirate is Sandokan the malaysian pirate who was born as a prince. Because he is an excellent strategyst and sword fighter plus I like characters who came from noble background but lives the life of an outcast.
I don't know if anyone knows him around here but there was a tv show when I was a child with Kabir Bedy in the main role. I only can recommend to watch. There was an epic scene when Sandokan was fighting a tiger and since then he is my personal favorite.
I liked Barbossa from Pirates of the Caribbean. I thought Geoffrey Rush nailed that role and relished playing the character. Thank you, Jeff, for all the great content.
Charles Vane from the show Black Sails ( not the real life Vane.) Because he could scare me thru the TV screen. Don't get me wrong but the Real Vane was also a scary dude.
My favorite Pirate is Frank Langella as Dawg Brown in Cutthroat Island! He's your loving uncle, but he'll kill ya for the treasure!!
Geoffrey Rush as Barbossa, he just ate up every scene he was in
My fav pirate is Barbossa for sure. Love the concept of a classical pirate villain. Love it so much! Also Steve Bonnet, he is charmingly hilarious.
I have to admit that my favourite pirate is Guybrush Threepwood.
His utter commitment to being a pirate, alongside his on-going struggles to win over Elaine are endearing.
My favorite pirate is Blackbeard. The lore surrounding him is so intriguing. Supposedly he would light flares in his beard to terrify his enemies. His depictions in films have always been lackluster compared to the man himself.
I loved the old Disney Blackbeard pirates.
Captain Pugwash from the 1970s kid cartoon who said such things as "Dolloping doubloons/dolphins!" and "Plundering porpoises!"
Captain Blood because he was one of the first that I ever watched in movie form as a kid and that inspired me to read the book.... followed by many many more pirate themed books.
Love the review Jeff, it's clear it's a book with plenty of creativity and passion put into it! My entry into the competition would be Ching Shih, a legendary pirate who terrorised the waters off the coast of South China back in the early 19th century. Ambitious and intelligent, she once commanded a fleet of 500 ships as leader of the pirate confederation in order to raid a town and capture hundreds of civilians. Scary stuff :P
Guybrush Threepwood, that's easy! Monkey Island 1 & 2 singlehandedly catalised my love for pirates, those pixels are burned into my brain.

Captain Hook. My first pirate and really scary for a kid! And he's probably the most iconic pirate. And he's stalked by a SEA crocodile? C'mon he's Pirate Borg worthy!!
My favorite pirate is Jean Laffite who fought for the United States during the Battle of New Orleans in the War of 1812. His life is interesting and the old movie with Charleston Heston was pretty good.
My favorite pirate in media is the Dread Pirate Roberts from the princess bride. The reason for this is because of the reveal of it being a title and not just one person, similar to the Xanathar in D&D.
I was always a fan of Long John Silver. In the original book, especially in the translation and reading by Harry Rowohlt (for any German I can highly recommend any of his audiobooks or translations. Imo one of the goats in both categories), but also in the Disney movie treasure planet. Silver is the original archetype of the pirate. He’s charming, cunning, opportunistic, brutal, caring and desperate. For me that’s what makes pirates so great. They are complex and not the “good” guys but they still are human.
Captain Blood. Eroll Flynn playing Captain Blood was my intro to the Pirate genre. It doesn't get any better. To think they almost cast James Cagne in the roll....Shudder...
First off, I have to say that Pirate Borg is going to be the first Borg game that I am going to pick up. Thanks for the informative review, Jeff. As for my favorite pirate, that has to be Captain Jack Sparrow with the Dread Pirate Roberts coming in a close second. I don't know what more to say than I love both of those movies.

Favorite pirate actually IS Jack Sparrow. He really turned the idea of a pirate on its head for me, and (or because) he is funny as hell. Now whenever i think of a pirate, i always picture Jack Sparrow
Not a competition entry, Jeff (I have this).
For me, this is the best of 'the add-on borgs.' It's attractive and a great game with real multiple adventure and table-longevity potential.
My only niggles are a couple of pages where the text that's far too tiny for easy reading (p.25 with the Dark Carribbean History, p.55 Backgrounds, p.118 Burried Treasure, p.164 Creature Index). And there's a still few others where it's tough going. The brilliant character creation checklist sheet (p.162-3) definitely needs to be enlarged to letter format on a copier (or print from PDF) to be easily useable.
For anyone picking this up - make sure it's from a vendor with an accompanying PDF copy (if your FLGS is a member of the Bits & Mortar scheme, the PDF is included - if you ask). It makes the tiny fonts more manageable on a screen.
A must play on "speak like a pirate day!"

After my Keep of the Boardlands game is over I will be running a pirate game using Pirate Borg.

I liked the Captain Hook voiced by Tim Curry in Fox’s Peter Pan and the pirates in the 90s. Too bad it will never be broadcast again as Disney claims copyright over it. This was a good story much better than you would think it could be.
A couple of lesser knowns (movies, certainly not the actors) - Robert Shaw in "Swashbuckler" and Tommy Lee Jones in "Nate and Hayes".
many are worthy, but for me, Davey Jones must be in the top 3. the legend, the tragesy abd the prtrail in the movie make him iconic on many levels.
My favorite would be Guy Threepwood because of his personality and master wit duel abilities!
Captain Hook played Dustin Hoffman. He owns the role. 😊
My favorite is Captain Jack Sparrow of course. I have always been a fan of scoundrel, anti hero characters. And Johnny Depp played the role to perfection.
My favourite pirate is Edward Teach aka Blackbeard, but not the real character. My favourite is the fictional version of him from Tim Powers book "On Stranger Tides"(worth a read if you are into pirate stories)
Blackbeard is a villainous pirate necromancer/voodoo occultist...he was just an interesting bad guy seeking the fountain of youth.
On a side note about the rpg book, it looks amazing. I own the systomless version of Green ronins "pirates guide to freeport" and also a fan (but never got any of them😢) of the 50 fathom minis and rpg.
This rpg is definitely on my wish list.
A shout out to Grace O’ Malley the Pirate Queen, as shrewd a diplomat as a pirate leader and allegedly defeated a boarding one hour after giving birth.
My favorite pirate would have to be Monkey D. Luffy from One Piece. He is the most loyal, lovable, goofy little guy who cares so deeply for his friends. He will go to war with the World Government for people he barely knows because they gave him a meal.
Klaus Störtebecker. Just because I have to raise the flag for a German pirate. By the way in northern Germany Störtebecker is famous big time. There is even a very tasty beer brand named after him. The legends about his death are quite a fun read, recommend them.
I enjoyed some Störtebecker beer when visiting Germany and heard his tale. I second this.

Id have to go with Erik the Red, the viking who first went to Greenland, because without that connection between Scandinavia and Greenland, its likely i wouldnt be living in Greenland now, and I like it here.
And before someone tells me that vikings aren’t pirates, look the literal meaning of the word Viking up ;) or just trust me when I say it means someone who goes raiding at sea, which is well… the same as being a pirate.
Also I’m being serious here. If I win, you will have to send the book to Greenland, and I definitely won’t have it by the 19th.

Good old Black Beard with his smoking beard. You'd have to be pretty crazy to set your facial hair on fire during combat for Intimidation factor.

When I want an art book i'll buy an art book.
I'm a random exposed viewer thanks due to the youtube algorithm.
It took me a long while to understand what this is supposed to be, it would have been good to have a brief introduction to what this is and what youre supposed to do with it.
So far as I understand it, its a tabletop game that requires you to use your imagination and dice rolls, similar to D&D and pathfinder.
I like the art style and artwork of this.
I think you would benefit from doing shorts of this showing an overview of this and what you think of it summarized in a minute, linking back to the main video.

Obviously, this isn't a channel for you - you point out you're a random visitor who doesn't even realize Pirate Borg is a roleplaying game evn though one of the first things out of Jeff's mouth is to say this is an RPG - yet you're going to tell Jeff what he should be doing with his videos. some of us appreciate that Jeff doesn't share a minute video and call it a day. Yeah. He should be catering to people who wouldn't be watching his vids in the first place. You've got a lot of nerve kid.
