    Another tip for pressure situations: players become more predictable the more pressured they feel. It's really important to actually think in the moment instead of letting pressure overcome you so you don't always go back to the same flowchart that enemies might have picked up on.

    Because of how I've learned to deal with pressure in games, I've actually gotten a lot better at dealing with pressure in real life.

    I always play to win, but when I'm playing I'm never thinking about winning; i'm thinking about doing my absolute best and giving it my all. And then it'll be what it has to be.

    What you're describing is what I call "beautiful". As I go, I recognize beauty in the way I did things. I also recognize ugliness in things that need improvement. But I do not condone myself for doing ugly things. To keep motivated I mostly try to remind myself: "Do beautiful things. Avoid ugly things."
    After a game, I reflect upon those two aspects. "That rail2bridge was beautiful! What made it happen? How do I reproduce this?" and "OMG, that drop to YA on dm6 was stupid and thus ugly. How do I avoid it?"
    Of course things are always on a spectrum. There are no hard values for "beauty" and "ugliness". Perfection is not beauty, because it leaves no room for error. Stupidity is not ugliness, because there was intent, and thus already a bit of beauty.
    Reflect *after* you did. Replays help a lot here. Also talking about what you did, why you did it in the first place, and listening to your peers stimulates self-reflection.
    Ultimately the goal is "flow": just do. You will automatically do what you find to be right / beautiful / promising, and it feels good.
    The learning effect comes from muscle memory by training paired with reflection as aforementioned - resulting in a feeling.
    And feeling good is fun, right? :)

    Great vid. Another thing that helped me massively is simply to get used to the in game situations that generate pressure. Once you play a game enough, you'll reach a level of competence that will make you do things right without even thinking about it. We all lived that situation when you're talking to friends in Mumble or Teamspeak while playing, talking about important stuff, and playing on auto-pilot. You focus back to the game once you finished talking and you realized you did pretty good without even thinking about it.

    Thank you for your videos. I Acquired Quake Live, and I am enjoying every moment of it. already I have unlocked acceleration achievement even though I played it only 140 hours on Steam. I was too young to witnessed its glory days, now I hope that this franchise doesn't die. I only quit on a game when you can not find any games at any time, that happened to my beloved Tribes Ascend, and other FPS-z games.

    Yes! Very helpful video actually! In CS:GO I keep thinking about it when I'm performing poorly. Looking at my K/D, constantly losing it and feeling depressed and anxious. Instead of focusing on just playing, performing, I try to find frags, ballsy plays, big mistakes... Thank you for this! A different mindset is in order.

      Tape out the top of your monitor over the score and unbind tab works every time

      +Henri V Thanks and good luck! I'll do more videos on these sorts of topics if a lot of people find them useful.
      Also Twitch Zena has a point.

    • @CIRCADES
      @CIRCADES 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Twitch_ Zena Score count in Counter-Strike gives you a tactical advantage. You can calculate whether the opposing team has enough money to buy, or depending on the score and round win order, you will even predict what execute they are planning! Under tab you see who won which exact rounds and even how many remained alive during a particular round. Otherwise would be a good idea

    • @usure2408
      @usure2408 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is probably a dumb question but why are you specifically uploading at 50fps?

    • @RocketJumpNinja
      @RocketJumpNinja  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Alodia Reaval (Cielo) Not dumb, I'd love to set it to 60, but my main camera can only do 50, so my default video files are all set to 50... now even when I record in 60fps, I still export 50fps. If Canon stop being jerks and just give us a firmware update to allow for 60fps (like the camera can do), then I'll switch to 60.

    I clearly remember winning a 1v5 clutch in Quake. It was in May 2015. I remember it, because I'm pretty sure it was also the last time I was last standing. There's no pressure when you're always first to die. :D Hell, I've been top scorer on the server, and STILL the first to die in most rounds. My damage output per second must be pretty damn good considering my life expectancy on a smallish map is probably around 10 seconds...often a lot less. :D Actually, check out my latest vid of my comeback game after being out of action for ages, for a masterclass in how to avoid ever being in a clutch situation, by making damn sure that you're dead before then.
