My mom says this is a bad way to save the ball and I should do what she says. I was like what the heck?! This person teaching is a college level coach and I should listen to my mom who has never played lacrosse or any sport?! :(
my coach has told me to do this and he's played college lacrosse as a goalie. He's also had three daughters do highschool so far as goalies and they've also told me to do this.
This is horse shit.. you need to squat really low so you're already down there.. do the opposite and pop up for the high shots. I had a friend shoot on me all summer and found that stepping laterally and squatting mega low (like you're shitting in the woods) actually helped me make more saves. The amount of time it takes to bend over, put your head on the ground and keep still 'and big'.. bogus. If you're down there already, less of a reach and all good goalies get caught out on those low ones. Find a good comfortable stance, no matter how whack you look and just make sure you're down there. Stick out in front of you so you're looking half way up the head, next to it. Try it guys, you won't be dissapointed.
I've actually had some 1on1 with coach Donahue and he still teaches this exact form. If it ain't broke don't fix it
That was really helpful. Looking forward to more video's like this :D
Broke my finger because one of these shots. Prob because of improper hand placement and poor positioning. This video really helped... thanks
i’m starting as a new goalie this season does anyone have any advice
bend your knees like you’re sitting in a chair and choke up on your stick
keep the top hand loose and always watch the ball. be bigger then the goal but don't be too far out. be big. if that makes any sense
I am in the same boat

Tell her she doesn't know what she's doing.

My biggest problem with low shots is not getting my stick to the ground and turning my body
Why would he have his legs straight that could make him off balance. Also the biggest position is not your body in a right angle.
