    I am a 65 year old healthy, active man. I had a bad ankle sprain in my early thirties, and now it has come to haunt me as arthritis in my right ankle. I have no other arthritis in my body, and no other medical conditions. After an MRI and consultation with a surgeon, I was told my only treatment options are ankle fusion, ankle replacement, or cortisone shots. I enjoy skiing and mountain biking, which I still do, and I want to continue doing both, so I want to avoid surgical treatment if possible. I took cortisone shots a couple months ago, and also started using orthotics in all my shoes, and these actions have helped a lot, but I know that deterioration is inevitable. I am hearing positive things about stem cell treatment, but this was never discussed with my surgeon during consultation. I hope you can shed some light about this potential other treatment. Thank you.

      Hi. How often do you have cortisone shots, please? Does it help? I am 43 by the way. Arthritis in both ankles 😔progressing rapidly

      @@tanyaluchko9003 I have only had cortisone shots once. I think it has helped. These days my ankle is fine unless I do a lot of walking or biking, then it aches at end of day. I recommend giving it a try.

    Stuart. I’m 75. I have had triple Arthrodesis operation 50 years ago on both feet at same time ( arthritis both feet ). Could hardly walk with pain I was a butcher 50 years on my feet all the time .No trouble after operation pain all gone !!!! ( didn’t have pins or screws in my feet !!! ). I had some pain and stiffness in my left foot 2 years ago so had some shock wave treatment on it 3 shots no trouble since fantastic since. Would recommend triple Arthrodesis lifetime without pain. !!!

    I myself have ankle arthritis and I was diagnosed with this at the age of 18 which I’m not too surprised because when I was a kid in grade 5 I broke one of my ankles and then I sprained it several times I have arthritis in my ankle but I also have arthritis in one of my fingers in the left hand I have arthritis in this finger because I ended up having to get surgery two years ago on it to remove a ganglion that was causing pain and now I have permanent arthritis and bad circulation in this finger

    I am a 40 years woman i got ran over 10 years ago I have a broke screw a plate and two more screws a my ankle because my ankle got shattered when I got run over it's been hurting me for 3 months now and every surgery doctor I went to says it's arthritis and not the broke screw that's causing my ankle pain so they referred me to a arthritis surgery doctor witch im trying to get a referral note from my primary doctor so I can make an appointment to go see him about this pain I've been having in my ankle 3 months now. what do you think it is. Is it my broke screw that causing my pain in my ankle or is it arthritis

    My doctor just had a “sit down” X-ray of my ankle to see if my complaints lead to the diagnosis of arthritis.
    I told him it hurts and is stiff when I walk on it. Especially toward the end of a long shift at work.
    Wouldn’t it have been better if he saw an X-ray of me standing on it? Just wondering.
    Btw- he said it’s not arthritis (although I have every symptom) and referred me to a podiatrist.

    what's the difference between what you do and what a podiatrist would do

    • @lindac.9792
      @lindac.9792 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      derrick smith podiatrists train to treat the foot and ankle just as an orthopedic surgeon who chooses to specialize in the foot and ankle would. Both are well trained in treating issues pertaining to the foot and ankle. Orthopedic surgeons complete an ortho residency and later they can choose to specialize in different areas such as the hand, hip, foot & ankle, etc. whereas a podiatric residency is 3+ years focused on the foot & ankle.

    Hi ….So I am nearly 64 years old. I live in Wales in the UK.
    I have osteoarthritis in my ankle from a soccer injury many years ago in my late twenties. At that time I injured both my ankle ligaments on my right foot.. I was told years later after an X-ray that my ankle has now become arthritic. I get regular flare ups with the ankle which has caused excruciating pain and swelling in the foot. My doctor told me that that could be gout. But strangely uric acid levels are normal. He was going to put me on Allopurinol but because the uric acid levels were normal he said that would be pointless at this stage.. So he’s sending me back for another X-ray to see how much the arthritis has progressed and I’ve given more blood tests.. I am slightly frustrated by not knowing what is going on with my ankle.. Which treatment if any of the ones you mentioned, going by my symptoms would you think will be forthcoming.. My very best wishes Derek

    I had lateral ligament reconstruction and arthroscopy in my cartilage talus area .... apparently my surgeon did some repair to my cartilage ... what, I’m not really sure... well it’s been 8 months and I’m doing physio, and I still have a lot of pain, only with weight bearing, especially shifting my weight side to side ... and some moments it feels good and others I can barely put any weight on it at all.... I met with another surgeon because my original one left the clinic .... and this new surgeon basically told me this may be permanent.... this is debilitating at times and I was better off before this surgery .... anything you think I should ask for or look for? They are doing an MRI for me after the New Year .... but this news was very disparaging

    I have a lot of friends here in Mindanao, Philippines that’s have this they are from Maitum. Well first off I sort of have it too but as bad as they do. I’m heavier than them as well. We all smoke and drink very frequently. Though why is that that the smallest amount of sardines or having more than a few drinks trigger it in them I mean I’m 36 like most of them some are a little older. Is it too much rice or, certain fish because a lot of them go fishing for a living for fish and also for small to medium squid they eat that a lot too. I always worry for them because I know how much it hurts 😢
