    This was something that I was never able to effectively do. If I had only had a real coach (or these videos). Keep up the good work!

    pisarenko and pisarevsky were masters at meeting the bar and avoiding a crash on the clean. Great vid!!

    This was SO helpful. Embarrassed to say also somewhat obvious after you explain it, but I just could not figure it out. Great video and very clear instruction. Thank you.

    Thank you for this helpful and instructional video. I am still learning and struggling with the right form for cleans and this helped me a lot. I liked tracking the bar heights as the weight increases 😃

      are the cal strength lifters form not as good? I watch their video daily and even though a lot of them "hip clean it" I think their lifts look solid.

      They're fun people on youtube, without a doubt strong as hell, but their form in general isn't great.

    Thanks! this helped alot. I'm always coming down to my squat as quickly as possible because thats what I was told to do. as fast as possible under the bar thanks to that I have many bruises and scratches on my neck, I'll try to cocrrect as fast as possible.

    Coach Greg, I'm still unable to mantain full grip when performing cleans. Should I use straps to rainforest full grip on the clean and front squat?

    • @CatalystAthletics
      @CatalystAthletics  4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Using straps is not my favorite approach because it's too easy to strain wrist/elbow. See these stretches to help and keep working to use as full of a grip as you can in FS - but also recognize that depending on your proportions, no matter how mobile you are, you may not be able to create a good position with a full grip.

    So basically like absorbing a catch with your shoulders? Thank you for some technical tips for me to think about

    • @CatalystAthletics
      @CatalystAthletics  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Really absorbing with the legs because the shoulders/trunk need to be totally rigid; more like closing the distance with the shoulders.

    yea i understand that but after triple extension i have 0.2 seconds to figure out exactly how far i need to go down, to meet the bar in the best spot.

    • @ah7027
      @ah7027 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      not really if your pulling on it with your arms you just pull your body down until you can roll your elbows through. its not really a jump down as much as its pulling yourself to the bar.

    • @CatalystAthletics
      @CatalystAthletics  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, you don't have to figure it out - you need to perform the same turnover motion regardless of bar height because that will bring the bar and body together. See this - th-cam.com/video/kHo1YedpkRE/w-d-xo.html

  • @kolmogorov4149

    I realized I had this problem by re watching my lifts. How do I fix it though? Any cue to help staying connected to the bar?

    • @CatalystAthletics
      @CatalystAthletics  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      "This is where the cue to rack the bar as quickly and as high as possible comes from"
      "Simply put, meet the bar with your shoulders in the turnover at whatever height you’ve pulled it to."

    Makes sense but you gotta love the "simply meet the bar..." Oh sure, got it ;)

    • @CatalystAthletics
      @CatalystAthletics  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Always start with the simplest solutions. I can assure you that a shocking number of lifters have never been taught that most fundamental of concepts and instead have learned to just bomb directly into the deepest squat possible irrespective of bar elevation - and in those cases, understanding that alone fixes 99% of the problem.
      For those who understand the concept and can't execute, there are other approaches - and several videos of mine that address them. Start here - th-cam.com/video/NUdVZjSumFA/w-d-xo.html

  • @morfeuss85
    @morfeuss85 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well thats obvious, the question still remains, HOW do you make the athlete rotate at the correct timing.

    • @CatalystAthletics
      @CatalystAthletics  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The timing for the turnover is always as quickly as possible once the extension is complete, hence the higher possible connection of the bar and shoulders; the point of this video is that the mechanics of the turnover itself must involve bringing the bar and body together, not just "dropping" under the bar. The "how" in this case is the understanding of that - you may think it's obvious, but I assure you it's far from it. If you need specific drills/exercises to train the motion, see this - th-cam.com/video/kHo1YedpkRE/w-d-xo.html

    • @morfeuss85
      @morfeuss85 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CatalystAthletics yes, and how do we make the athlete understand that its the moment to turn the elbow. How to make his body understand that its time to rack the bar.

    • @CatalystAthletics
      @CatalystAthletics  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@morfeuss85 The athlete knows when he/she has completed extending the body upward. That is when the pull under is initiated. That turnover motion is identical on every single rep because it's about the relationship of the bar and trunk, not the bar and floor. You teach the athlete the mechanics of the turnover, which teaches them when the elbows stop moving up and out and begin moving around the bar, which is covered in the other video I linked for you.
