  • TILLAGE IS FINALLY REACHING ITS END! With the weather continuing in a warm and dry pattern, there is a lot of different projects being completed around the farm. Andy zips around all day to work on different projects. He starts in a tractor, moves to a backhoe, and ends in a different tractor. Andy and Marty work on fixing a large tile plug that caused issues this growing season. Thanks for watching!
    #Harvest #Farm #Illinois
    Andy is a 6th generation farmer from Central Illinois. On this farm, Andy works alongside his father, Marty, his uncles, Chris and Jeff, and his sister, Katie, to grow corn and soybeans on some of the finest dirt in the world. Andy and his family are deeply rooted in the area, operating a large farm that traces it origins back into the 1800s. Although some tracts did not stand the test of time, Andy and his family still grow corn and soybeans on fields that have been in the family for longer than even the oldest members of the farm have been alive. We do, we have, and we always will take tremendous pride in calling this piece of paradise our home. Andy was a Bronze Tablet graduate of the University of Illinois in the field of Crop Sciences, following the same path as his father and late grandfather.
    It would be misleading for Andy to claim that this life is one that came by chance; rather, as a member of two multi-generational farm families, it was simply in his blood. His passion for agriculture traces back to his early youth--some of his fondest, earliest memories being of days spent riding in the combine with his father and grandfather. Although his understanding of the lifestyle was much less complex in the beginning, the love he has for farming, and its industry has only appreciated through time. As this dream blossomed into adulthood, Andy now works relentlessly, and tirelessly, to chase his own dreams and to build a farming operation of his own alongside his family.
    We, as a whole operation, are handymen, electricians, mechanics, landscapers, accountants, economists, caretakers, stewards, and, most importantly, farmers, and we take an incredible amount of pride in our work. There is no challenge too overwhelming, no situation too stressful, and no problem too difficult for us to take on, and we want to take you along with us. Welcome to our farm and welcome to our lives. You have the best seat in the house to watch the everyday chaos of farming unfold--we usually only get concerned when things aren't going wrong!

    Late night for you.
    Love the drone footage. I love the smell and the looks of freshly plowed ground. Something so satisfying about that.
    I know what you mean by another person getting in the tractor and change everything around - annoying.
    Tell your Dad to hit that panel a little harder and it should stay..🤣

      Dad has always believed in progress through force. It works most of the time. The rest of the time... well... it does the opposite of work.

    2020 has been a good year for field work. We are in NW MO...crops started off a little wet, then finished a little to dry for them, but we had one the easiest, quickest harvest I can remember...I’m 29. It is 60 and sunny today...working towards 74 high. I’m running the high speed through corn stalks in some beautiful Grand River bottom ground currently. Be well all.

      Yes I cannot believe how smoothly everything has been. Even a massive rainfall didn’t slow us down for long. I think that we were due for a simpler season after the disaster that was 2019. Thanks for the kind wishes and good luck to your family!

    What are government bins?

    • @aTrippyFarmer
      @aTrippyFarmer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bins that the government built nearly 5-6 decades ago during times of economic and supply uncertainties. After the program ended, farmers were able to keep some of the bins for their farms. They are small, but it will hold a little portion of a soybean field.

    Isn't it a little to warm to be putting that nitrogen in ? We got about 1700 acres to do and waiting until next Wednesday when temps get to 50's for daytime highs.

      With N-Serve and the naturally impressive CEC of some of our soils, it is just about where we would need with the cooler forecast in the future. Anything is possible, but it should be okay!

    Working bean stubble lol everyone quit doing that 20 years ago for a reason

    • @aTrippyFarmer
      @aTrippyFarmer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Around here, I’d say that 80%+ of stubble will see some kind of tillage, NH3 application included. It has its benefits and downsides-which ones you want to stand by are your own decision.

    Imperfections aren’t fixed with tillage... only time can do that... temporary fix for a permanent problem... if you were a soil microbe would you like a steel shank pulled thru your living room? Lol
