- On today’s episode, we pair JM Boswell’s Northwoods with an Eagle Rare Old Fashioned. In addition, we discuss the history of the old fashioned, our two different methods of making an old fashioned, a speakeasy in Pensacola, one the BEST old fashioneds in Pensacola, Jeremiah’s trip to the zoo, and a few outtakes.

My father in 1970's Iran, used to have a tin collection, and some pipes. I was always drawn to the colorful tin art. I think he used to order them from UK. because Iran only produced oriental tobacco for Hookah and cigs. when we moved to the US, all his collection went in the trash. he never smoked again in the US. after he passed away in 2021, Jan 4th, I went into his room cause I miss him. He only had a few clothes and 1 pair of shoes. And he had one of his old pipes from Iran hidden in an old luggage, probably for sentimental reasons. It made me turn to pipe smoking. I wish I had a chance to light one with him.

Boswell's Black Cherry is an excellent aromatic. Tin note is a mild cherry cordial scent, room note is pleasant for anyone within thirty minutes travel, and personally the beard note makes me irresistible to my wife.

Brandy old fashioned is the best way to go. The best of those are made in supper clubs scattered across Wisconsin.

@@IdiotsWithPipes legend has it that the whisky in an old fashioned was replaced by brandy in Wisconsin in order to comply with Lent. Brandy is close to wine, and wine is permitted during Lent because of communion, but all other hard alcohol was verboten. We love our alcohol here. Approximately 1/3 of Korbel brandy is sold in Wisconsin according to other legend.

And you are spot on with the Frog Morton. McClelland close their doors, because they felt that due the decrease in quality of the tobacco available, they could no longer make as high quality blends anymore, and closed shop. Crazy!

@@ItsJustJerFromJersey Old School and Railroad are some of my top blends from them, too. JM really knows what he’s doing. And their English Biscuits, an English Aro, has become my absolute favorite from them. So good!!

Southwoods - I get jokes... I've never heard a man say "express the oils" before. At least you weren't wearing the pink jacket when you said it. Was that a pinch or a dash of cocaine ... Eagle Rare is worth the search.
lol, I sure don’t hear it much. Jeremiah saying it may be a first for me too!! Hahaha!! And man, the amount of extra “additives” in Iron’s Old Fashioned, is to be determined. But it sure is enough to make me think about and crave it often! Eagle Rare is so good!! I just wish it wasn’t so hard to get. Luckily, for a very similar old fashioned, with a whiskey readily available, Benchmark Single Barrel fills the void until I can find another ER.
