  • The story about the making of "Woodface". Neil and Tim Finn and fellow Crowded House bass player Nick Seymour discuss the highs and lows of the year it took to make the album. Along the way, Neil Finn revisits the master tapes, uncovering secrets that have laid hidden for decades. He also spontaneously performs a number of "Woodface" songs exclusively for this documentary.

    This is my favourite Album of all time.
    It got me into Crowded House and I happened to be at the Sydney opera House at the farewell gig.

    Crowded House would *not* be Crowded House without Neil Finn (and his brother Tim on this album) who are proud New Zealanders, not Australian. It is really the second coming of Split Enz who were a mostly Kiwi band with a couple of Brits added. Give credit where credit is due.

    The maturity with which Neil and Tim dealt with their issues (despite the fist fight) is admirable.
    Both respected each others point of view even though both had a right to feel put out.... I think I just learned something about how to deal with conflict.

    My favorite pop band ever to record...I can just keep them on repeat as now they're the soundtrack of my life. They gave me hope in the hook and the harmony and melody again..there was a stretch of drum machine madness and they transcended all that. Love Tim as well. I just feel like they don't do any bad songs ever. They've got the jangle and the range and as tight as they are they can take it right to the edge.

    It's been years and years since I've heard Crowded House, but my impression was that they were from New Zealand, not Australia. Spending their music development time in the UK, bringing a British player on board. Listening to the two Finn Brothers accents, it's very difficult to detect the presence of an Australian twang, Perhaps the band have based themselves in Australia and so have been Identified as Australian - who knows, perhaps more importantly what does it matter.

      With the addition of Tim this is arguably the most Kiwi that Crowded House had been up to that point. Two Aussies and one Kiwi living in Melbourne, form a band and record albums and base themselves in Melbourne. Tim upped the NZ quota a bit temporarily when he joined but this is an Aussie band all day, ay bro.

      I think it's because what's uploaded is the original programme (which ends with "How Will You Go?"), then we get the DVD extras straight afterwards.
      Correction : it looks like the uploader has stuck the uncut interviews (possibly originally extras) around three-quarters of the way in...

      They released a new album called Dreamers Are Waiting. The band is now original members Neil Finn & Nick Seymour, Mitchell Froom who produced and played on their early albums on keyboards, and Neil's sons Liam & Elroy. They sound as good or better than ever. They toured NZ & AU until they recently had to postpone 4 concerts in AU because Neil & Liam got covid. Tickets are on sale now for concerts in Europe, the US & Canada.

    What I find interesting is that Woodface was their most successful album internationally, but I consider it their worst album due to the goofy nature of some of the songs. No disrespect as I consider Neil Finn one of the top three greatest singer/songwriters of all time.

    I actually think it is the weakest of the first 4 Crowded House albums too. Some amazing songs (Fall At Your Feet, Whispers And Moans, Four Seasons In One Day, There Goes God, She Goes On) but quite a few very average tracks too. Chocolate Cake is one of their worst songs ever IMO.

    • @peterallison290
      @peterallison290 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Haha. Yeah I agree. While there are some beautiful songs on Woodface, there are some very average ones. It has always seemed very uneven to me. Temple of Low Men and Together Alone are my favourites. Consistent and even albums. But overall I love their collective music. Neil mentioned in here that Split Enz Conflicting Emotions wasn't the best album, but I actually love it. So... horses for courses. Have also listened to Time and Tide again recently, and become more aware what a fantastic album, that was. Sandy Allen rocks.
