I met Neil about 40 years ago, and I will never forget it. Humble guy came up to our table and looked straight at me asked how we were doing. I forget the exact conversation but it was pleasant and he wanted me and my mates to enjoy the second half of the show. This was Split Enz days, and I think he had just joined Tim's band. I won't ever forget this. Seriously this was almost like meeting Jesus.
This is absolute perfection. In my opinion, Neil Finn is the best songwriter of his generation. In contrast to some other artists, the quality of his songwriting has not diminished with age. Every song seems to be so carefully crafted; a combination of strong lyrics and subtle melodies. I would be interested to know where this show was performed. Quite rightly, the audience appears to be completely engrossed.
Mesmerising. Every song as close to perfect as a song can get. Stripped back, revealing the intricate structures of the songs that were sometimes lost on the more complex mixes. I don't think his voice has been better live than here in this recording - that blend of still hitting the high notes but having that rich timbre that comes with age. Simply excellent. And Message to my girl. My favourite song... Sublime.
The man is super talented. I love listening to Tim talk about his younger brother and how he is in awe of his talent. So much talent in that family let alone this one man; Neil.
Here in the states I feel as though One Nil and Try Whistling This are my secret treasures that only will share with the people who prove themselves worthy 🎉
I never tire of listening to Neil Finn. His songs are unique, poetic and rife with meaning universally appealing. His guitar playing is stunning but never overdone or ungrounded- always a perfect union with his vocals. I have loved his music my whole life.
I wish I had followed Neil's musical career after Split Enz. I am so glad that I was able to enjoy the band back in the 70s and 80s. Crowded House was also a lot of fun, was disappointed that they, too, disappeared. I have to admit, Neil is a great musician, singer, songwriter.
28 mins in ... Neil playing Split Enz's: 'Message to My Girl' is absolutely beautiful. 😀 I have heard him play this song twice in the UK and it was magical. Fabulous in its own right, but it also reminds fondly me of 70s-80s Squeeze.
When Neil joined Split Enz all those years ago I went wow this guy is good, now we all know how good ...Just take The Enz song Message To My Girl one of the greatest songs ever written, written by one of the greatest song writers ever,,,,
Indeed, and given the title of this video, I thought this would be a performance of the album, but I'm not terribly disappointed because any Neil is great.
Thank you. Just more proof that we've lost the thread of what is truly instrinsically worthy, any longer...if the Beatles had arrived at the same time Neil Finn did, they would have been shunted aside, as well, and their genius likewise ignored by the masses. Which reminds me....listen to his Crowded House's "Chocolate Cake" , which probably sums it up better than anything else...cue the irony.
I really love listening to him! I love listening to his voice. It gives me fond memories of listening to his songs when he played in Crowded House in the 80's, which was a happier time. If I could go back in time...Thanks for posting his music!!!
I love how the time line is formatted into segments for each song. Guess we're in the future already. What's it going to be like in 50 years. You just think of a song & it appears.
So mellow and so beautiful. The entire concert was a joy. Almost nobody can sing that many songs and never a dud one enters the mix; but Neil Finn demonstrably can.
Dust from a distant sun will shower over everyone We leave the dust of conversation hanging in the light above the bed The city draws its breath in - I can almost hear it thinking It's no new years resolution - It's more than that Everything is in the balance of a moment I can't control Whenever I touch your slow-turning pain Damn...who writes like that?

I get so angry when feuding siblings from the Britpop era behave like complete twats and still get worshipped for ripping off any number of superior artists, while guys like Neil slip under the radar when it comes to being recognized for his song writing and performing talent.
Amazing how he can project the whole essence of each song playing solo guitar like that! Listening, I find my brain filling in for the other instruments!

Neil Finn has got to be nipping at Paul McCartney's feet as 1 of the greatest song writers ever. He makes song writing seem so easy. But it ain't so. I play the piano just as good but it takes serious talent to do what he does
@@Jacqs_T Finns tremendous but he can't touch Macca. Finns got a couple classics, and Maccas got Dozens. Neil Finn can only write and sound like he does above, McCartney is a master of most styles of contemporary music.
