    Did anyone notice the young "jarhead" (black t-shirt) at the bottom of your screen at 2 min.41 , who was the first to stand up at attention and look at the flag! (while others looked to the stage) when the drumroll started and all marines on the stage stood up. He knew what was coming in advance as a true marine and stayed at attention while looking at the flag and when the hymn ended , he said down while others stood up to applaud. It shows the difference between those who've served and learned and those who never did such. It is called tradition!

    I remember going to listen to the Marine Band during the summer on Sunday nights when they played free concerts on the Watergate barge on the Potomac. Back then Washington was a civilized place. Ike and JFK and other politicians were not the trash that holds office now. The business of government was carried on within the district limits. Today government is a bureaucratic mess. fun fact: military bands traditionally wear "reverse colors" on their tunics, for instance the Marines wear reversed red/blue. this is because in the Age of Sail, bandsmen served as stretcher bearers carrying the wounded from the battlefield. they hoped the distinctly different uniform colors would tell the enemy the stretcher bearers weren't combat soldiers, hoping the enemy wouldn't shoot at them (it didn't always work).
    some people think the USMC band wears red tunics because it's an homage to Marines being modeled after the Royal Marines during the War of Independence, but this isn't true. the Colonial Marines wore rifle green uniforms because green was the cheapest dye in the Colonies, and green broadcloth was widely available--they never wore red. oddly enough, the scarlet color of the British army was chosen because scarlet was the cheapest dye in Britain at that time.
    after 1804, the Royal Marines Artillery was formed, and they wore the blue coats of the artillery forces, while the infantry Marines wore the scarlet infantry coat (which is why they were called "lobsters").

    • @000Responses
      @000Responses 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      "It didn't always work" is the correct way to describe marines.
      Marines, most of the timem had a "unique" approach when they try to solve something. Starting since colonial time, when marines believed that wearing leatherneck collar will help their neck protect against saber slash during ship boarding and amphibious assault. The Army and Navy mocking them by using "leatherneck" to call marines.
      Marines later rocking the "jarhead" because they think it will help their head cool off from wearing the helmet during the Vietnam war. Obviously, mariens was only wearing helmet 24/7 and not body armor, so it's not working since the enemy was using AK and aim center mass instead of the headshot. "Jarhead" just become another mocking nickname Army and Navy call them.
      "Crayon eater" is about how some marine grunt can and will trade you all his MRE food for a pack of cheese spread (better cheese spread version like jalapeno or bacon bit will nail you better trading, and cheese spread somehow look like crayon).
      Last but not least the unofficial name for U.S.M.C. = Uncle Sam Misguided Children.
      Gotta give it to the marine that they actually digging those nicknames as a "sense of pride" for some "reason"

      When I was in the US Navy, my ship made a port call at Cherbourg (sp?) France. Went on a bus tour of the beaches at Normandy, various towns in the area and the cemetery at Normandy. The rows of white crosses, punctuated by Star of David markers, left an impression and memory that is still fresh in my memory over forty years later. It’s one thing to see something of this nature on television or a computer screen, yet the impact of seeing it in person is immeasurable.

    Today is the 19th Anniversary of 9/11--may we never forget the many who died that day--the workers in the towers, the policemen and the firefighters, the others that ran in to help. Let us not forget the families of those who died, and those who still are suffering the effects of the horrid smoke and debris that filled the air for months. REMEMBER how our nation came together!!! At this time in history our nation is so divided that my heart breaks!! Please, let us come together agian for the common good of all. Our nation was founded for the good of all. To me the common good is FAITH, HOPE and LOVE. The greatest of these is LOVE---especially of your fellow man no matter who he may be---God created us all---when asked "Who is my neighbor, Jesus replied everyone".
