    This is the very best film I have ever seen about Santiago de Compostala. We have done the Camino 4 times on four different routes and have been to the Cathedral many times as well as the roof. Thank You for this beautiful portrait of a beautiful place!

      It is not about the Camino, it is only about the Catedral. There are a lot in spanish much better than this one. The real Camino finish in Finisterre, not in the Catedral. It's a teluric way and the people was walking this way before the relics.

    The Cathedral is the destination. "EL CAMINO" (The Road) is the Journey. There really needed
    to be a Part 2 about the people from all over the world who have been making this pilgrimage
    for centuries. Many are neither Catholic nor even Christian or "Theist"- yet they keep coming...

      This is a wonderful Documentary. The only thing I do t like is that he uses the word worship. No we Catholics venerate and Honor Saints not worship. Worship is only for our Lord Jesus Christ and his Divinity. 🙏🏼😘✝️❤️

  • @joannsfo

    One glaring error is the mention, several times, that pilgrims make their way to Compostella to "worship" the relics of Santiago. Catholics don't worship saints, they venerate saints. There is a big difference between the two. Catholics worship only God.

      What is the difference.?

    • @fool1shmortal
      @fool1shmortal 8 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      +Robin Conkel-hAnnan the triune God, alone, gets adoration, as the source of all graces and ourselves; saints get adulation (dulia), as helpers of His that bring us closer to Him as fellow totally fallen-human examples of how we can be with His grace. The prayers of the righteous availeth much and, though Jesus is the one intercessor between man and The Father, nothing is said in Scripture about intercessors between man and him--especially as who can be more alive than those so uninhibitably spiritually-alive? As long as we don't try to conjure them, it's good. Even Protestants ask for others' prayers, but theirs are limited by fallen humanity; saints are free of that. We can celebrate them and raise them up as God's greatest works--especially his mother!-- by their participation in receiving and utilizing His grace! I hope that helps!

      +Robin Conkel-hAnnan You asked Jo Anne why. I told you. The video is about a Catholic place. If you don't want a Catholic to answer you, don't ask a question about the Faith. Go over to some hate church like pretty much all the other fundie churches that overcompensate for ignoring key biblical teachings or humanists that overcompensate for inhumane ideas like abortion and euthenasia by ganging up on Catholics.

    Thank you, Planet Doc for making this video available.
    And thank you to the creators of this beautiful historical video. Instead of concentrating on a narrow aspect of this famous pilgrimage, you've included a broad range of factors such as the important builders, battles, plagues, maps and great details of the pilgrimage churches along the way (especially Conques!) and the grand cathedral in Spain. GOOD JOB. Beautiful, inspirational, faith-building, fascinating. You spanned 1,000 years magnificently.
    A special commendation for the part showing the ropes, pulleys and men launching that grand thurible with incense through the nave - breathtaking!!!

    Thank you, Miss Jo Ann! I've been grinding my teeth at every mention of worship of the Holy St James' Relics! (As I'm an old woman, tis my jaws, rather than my teeth, grinding; it gives me a roaring headache! 😊)
    There must have been a time when the translations weren't of the best OR it came about after the Protestant Revolt & was used to calumniate the believers? But, long enough ago that the Narrator should have checked.
    Additionally, he shouldn't be calling the Cathedral a "temple".

    I thought I heard the word " adored" in relation to St. Foye, a martyr of the early Church in France. After double checking it was indeed said that the saint was adored. WRONG! It is sad how the separated brothers and sisters still don't get it that we Catholics are not idolaters. Merci.

    (The Way of St. James) should be The Way to … it seems St. James walked to … actually he was buried there and the cathedral was built in the place where it is supposed he was buried … anyway … an extraordinary experience for your body and your mind overall … I walked through the Camino Francés 4 years ago … that changed my view about my life …

    Catholics do not worship relics or statues.
    Soldiers do not worship the flag of their country when they salute it, after all it is only a piece of cloth so why are they saluting a piece of cloth on a pole?
    It's all symbolic with no worship.

    • @bripac6166
      @bripac6166 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      los símbolos son importantes. Son los que a través de la vista te recuerdan tu origen o tu fe. Al igual que la palabra de un mesías o su legado escrito en un libro te marca ese "camino" que has elegido seguir en tu vida. Saludos de un pobre soldado de Dios.

    • @GFSLombardo
      @GFSLombardo 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the Crusaders had followed the path to Santiago de Compostela they would have ended up in the Atlantic Ocean. The road to Jerusalem in the Holy Land was one of several pilgrimage sites (Rome was another one). As in the movie "Kingdom of Heaven" keep going South until the natives speak Italian. Continue south to the end of the road until you get to the Mediterranean Sea, then catch a boat heading East=easy-peasy...

      "EL CAMINO" is open to all. If/when you complete your pilgrimage to SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA you will go to an office near the Cathedral to get your "Passport" checked in order to get your official "certificate" of completing the pilgrimage. Sometimes the clerks will ask the camineros:"'why did you make this pilgrimage?" You now have plenty of time to think of an answer. They have been doing this for 1000 years. BUEN CAMINO!
