Nice to see them showing a different side of Jamaica. We are not just the slums that a lot of documentaries love to highlight. There are beautiful places in Jamaica too (not talking about the resorts).

That's what most American journalists do, higlight poverty. If you see documentaries on Haiti, you'd never see anything other than slum life. Haiti has natural beauty and affluent neighbourhoods too. Ugh!

Same year as well. 🌸🌸 I was born in Westmoreland Jamaica. I would NEVER trade being born anywhere else in the world. My childhood days were nothing short of a fairy tale. Rivers, mango trees and the strong support of a community. My father is Indian and my mother is black. I truly love the diversity of our people…. Thanks so much for sharing this!! 🇯🇲❤️🇯🇲❤️🇯🇲

Many people don't seem to know the history of Caribbean countries. Jamaica was colonised by the British and built up by a mixture of African and English people, and is known as the British Commonwealth..........Within many Jamaicans families there are a mixture of fair skinned and dark skinned people. They are not described as BLACK or WHITE.

Kiana, no. Just no. In the first place, Spain controlled Jamaica for 150 years, and they were bringing in slaves from Africa for most of that time until they lost control to Britain. Spain NEVER called it Jamaica, so no, the first slaves they had were never "Jamaicans".
2nd, Jamaica comes from the Arawak word Xaymaca, which means land of wood and water. A word Spain never adopted. GB renamed it Jamaica. Slaves brought there by the British weren't considered Jamaican until much later because slaves had no identities. Slaves were initially thought of more as livestock than as humans. One cannot have a nationality when you're not a person and when you have no rights.
They were identified by who owned them or which plantation they were assigned to. In history books, you will see reference made to a particular slave as being "Jamaican born", they were not referred to as Jamaicans. Just like the other ethnicities who were sent there to work off debts as indentured servants were never called Jamaican. They were simply Chinese or Indians who were forced to live and work in Jamaica. Their future descendants were Jamaicans.
