In the US, they don’t show the full scope of diversity in other countries. They paint stereotypes in the media. First time I met a Chinese female who was raised in Jamaica blew my mind when I heard her speak. Traveling to Jamaica and seeing the diverse cultures/people was really eye opening and a beautiful experience.

@@nellydavis7645 it's only crazy to certain people as they have never been exposed to it. people in Jamaica will know there is a strong history of Chinese Jamaicans dating back to the 19th century. also the media never represents special people like this. for example in China, there are so many different ethnic groups that look so different from your typical Chinese person. Some Chinese people in China look very Western with Asian features the further north and west you migrate. The further south you go you have darker skin Chinese people who start to look more South East Asian. We all so diverse that the world only have a small snippet of what Chinese people look like.

@@PopsGGIt's just such a normal part of Jamaican life that for Jamaicans its strange to hear you say your mind is blown. In fact, if you've met black Jamaicans you may have met Chinese Jamaicans. Many black Jamaicans have Chinese ancestry and often you can't tell by looking. Sometimes the name gives it away - Chung, Lowe, Chin. But sometimes the name wasn't passed down because one of the persons who passed down the Chinese ancestry included a woman at some point. There are a number of both types among my friends and family. In some it’s visible, in some it’s not.
