Other people close to Stevie also told about seeing a light around him that night. Thanks to Rene for sharing his memories of Stevie. He was a special soul. Heartbreaking that he was taken so soon.
Man, it was like Stevie knew - spooky. It was my freshman year in college when SRV died. I was hanging out in my buddy's room when someone busted in and told of the crash. I remember going back to my own room, turning down the lights and putting on "Riviera Paradise, " which I used to listen to every night while I went to sleep. I lay there that night, feeling the tears well up, knowing that there would never be any more music from Stevie this side of heaven. First time I had experienced the loss of a musical hero - too many since.
I Wasn't At This Last Show But I Saw Stevie & "The Boys" Shortly Before In Colorado....I Couldn't Believe How GREAT Everybody Sounded!! How Much Fun They Were All Having Because They Were ALL Sober & Present! And Stevie Was More ALIVE & Beautiful Than I Ever Saw Him Over The Years! I Remember Seeing A Special "Glow" Around Stevie On Stage @ Red Rocks Once - The Year He Wore His Headdress.... It Was Amazing Yet Very Fitting Somehow... I Wish There Was A Photo Of The Light You Described Over Stevie That Last Night...He Was A Very Special Spirit! Thank You, Rene, For Sharing This! You Know How Much Stevie Loved You! I Think God Just Really Wanted Stevie Back HOME - Bless His Heart! I Miss Him To This Day, All These Years Later! Stevie Was VERY Dear...He Lives On With Those Of Us Who Loved Him! SOUL💞SOUL, STEVIE - ALWAYS💗😘
THE greatest guitar player in history, you can play fast you can do tricks you can even fool Rolling Stone magazine why you are better but SRV IS the best thats ever played ! the feeling the passion, it came from that place only Hendrix, Eddie, and Shawn Lane know about.
I’m lovin this series! Sad note I was 15 when we lost Stevie and I remember the first time I heard it.. We didn’t believe it not Stevie NOT OUR OWN TOWN HERO! The Cliff is always proud of him!
This interview gave me chills..it was his destiny to be here to serve his purpose and to go home. The last time I saw SRV he was on the same bill as The Jeff Beck Trio..promoting Guitar Shop..with Terry Bozzio, Tony Hymas. He opened up the show and it was awesome, Beck was on my to go list to see among the others to see. Then SRV came out and it was game on...classic show, and for the encode Santana came out and did this jam that was unwordly..as if I had an out of body experience...couldn't believe it. The show was at the Oakland coliseum. And them it was the following tour not to long after that SRV died...I heard the news while on a business trip on a bus and it was announced. He gave us his best and like bolt of lightning he was gone..all to soon.He may be gone but definitely not forgotten..May he rest in peace Stevie Ray Vaughn 🙏. 🙏 ☮ ❤
just watched an old video of Jimmie Vaughn talking about a great guitar tech named Rene Martinez, which got me to this video. as a SRV fan hearing this version of events bought back so much memories from 1990 after hearing the news...Thanks for sharing your story.👍
I will never forget this day, as long as I live. I had just gotten to work and in the locker room getting my uniform on. Someone walked in said, "did you hear about your boy, Stevie? He died today." It seemed like the world stopped spinning. I sat there for a moment, dumbfounded. Then I smashed my locker door and just started weeping.
I have a cd set of that last show he did, and his playing was just insane. The best I've ever heard him play. He knew something was going happen, and gave it his all. Also, it's Mr. Martinez that's the one who did those incredibly choreographed guitar changeouts when SRV would blow a string, correct? It doesn't get any smoother than the routine they had worked out.
thank you Rene its pretty obvious you and the band and stevie were all brothers and loved each other very much.Love is powerful and love is indestructible.!i was an over the road truck driver.and iwas driving through ohio when i heard about it on the FM.i grew up in houston.i had to pull off the road.it was like somebody punched me in the chest.he wiil never be forgotten.ive never seen or heard a guitar player with more heart!and the same goes for you and Tommy and Chris!some of todays players are technical geniuses but they sometimes miss the point.its not just soul to soul its heart to heart!you could feel it in his music.Thats what made Clapton pull off the road the first time he heard stevie coming out of his car radio.its a force of nature.and you are part of that..thank you for sharing such a personal and heartbreaking tradgedy with us.God bless you sir!
That's such a heartbreaking story. Thank you for sharing, I can't even imagine the pain in your soul. I'm sorry. I was fortunate enough to see you guys in Philly, I think it was 1990?, along with Jeff Beck and Terry Bozio opening.
We'll thanks for that. You're a very lucky and fortunate person to have known him, Be proud. Seems like you had a premonition. I'll never understand why so many great people like him are taken away like this in a blink of an eye. It's literally changed the music industry. And not for the better I'm afraid. I can't even listen to this garbage they put out today. But thank you Stevie for being in this world. Words can't say enough. That's all.
That light is God telling Stevie that his eternal tour is getting ready to begin.. SRV is headlining in heaven for our Father.. and His glorious Son Jesus Christ..
@hopebrowning6300 He often spoke at concerts about how God saved him, his mother said he was saved, it's between him and God now, and of course I hope he's singing with the angels.
I remember hearing the news on the morning radio as I was picking a mate up on our way to work. It stopped me in my tracks. SRV was a huge influence on thousands of guitarists. I wonder if he knew that? A friend loaned me Soul to Soul and it just knocked me sideways. He rescued my enjoyment of the guitar from the theatrics and competitiveness of the nonsense, meaningless high-speed blah blah that was so prevalent at the time. Always thought I'd get to see him live but never did. Thank you and RIP Stevie.
I was going to see Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble on September 27th 1990 at the Kern county fair and he got on that Damn helicopter I never saw him play I cried for a week
Saw Stevie & DT about 5 weeks before he died. At a small theatre. He just slowly strutted back and forth across the stage, playing in kind of a relaxed style. Seemed to be not bothered by anything. Played great. Terrible hearing the news.
Stevie never " played" the guitar. He was the Strat. He didn't think what to do next he just let it flow through his hands to the strings. Stevie was a conduit from the ether. A gift to us.
When I was a senior in High School I shared a room with my Brother and he kept getting up trying to figure out where the light was coming from in a Closet in our room and the closet did not have a light .Come to find out a Hour later we found out that our older sister had passed away.
Im really not the spiritual type but from all the things i read about this final night, i feel like Stevie knew this was the end. In the book "Texas Flood" Stevie's aunt or mother also said his pilot seemed off which was strange. Idk i dont believe in spiritual things but i still think this was meant to be and Stevie knew.
I believe so too. Days before his death, he told his girlfriend, he had a feeling, that something was out to get him. The interview with Chris was deep as well. He came back from the bathroom, with his bags. Chris asked him where he's going & Stevie said he was going to Chicago to call his girlfriend...Chris said, "They have phones here." Stevie replied, "No, I've gotta go, but I want you to know, that I love you." A person that worked with his Manager Alex Hodges, said Alex saw Stevie on the chopper before it took off & said Stevie looked "shook up" 🤷🏻 Idk, but it makes sense.. Maybe Stevie had a foreboding feeling.😢
If only those were the days of the ubiquitous mobile phone, especially post iPhone. Rene surely would have taken a quick picture of Stevie in that light.

He had a dream just before he passed. That's why he hugged him that way. It was a premonition of him seeing himself at his own funeral. Stevey knew something was up. He spoke of some of it during an interview. He said that Jimmy was not likely the one that killed himself and then got really quiet. Same with other famous people that didn't want to stay within the guidelines of, were in control, not you. Even Prince said it well, do you own your master's? It's a game of chess and they'll kill you if you don't listen.
@@RobertFairweatherMusic , yeah, so much Is lost. I don't know where I is but I know that they didn't want him to talk about it so I'm sure it's scrubbed from the net.
Satanic sacrifice…sick shit…Stevie was a good man of God, especially he got clean…they realized he couldn’t be controlled…just like Tom Petty, who had his house burned down in the middle of the night, barely escaping be he cost the industry a ton of $ by refusing to release his highly anticipated Damn the Torpedoes album…he wrote “I Won’t Back Down “ immediately afterwards, badass

SRV is one of the only things in life that give me hope. Once again this makes me cry.
It's still a giant punch in the chest - just like the Monday when I found out. To hear Rene tell the story just hits me. It's so powerful.
OK. I am totally floored now. I have never heard any of this. It is almost as if SRV knew!
I really am enjoying hearing Rene talk about his life !

40.000 spectators every of the 3 days
...on a hill/valley in southern Wisconsin. Amazing place. Sad that it was SRV's final performance, etc.
GOD was telling SRV, "IT'S TIME TO GO"... 🙏
7,56,,...when he speaks about something like a "GAZIBO"....?

Is it possible to be an adult and cry like a baby? yeah. it is.
man, he looks like coach red pill's dad :D
I wonder what is Gods plan, if he wanted Stevie why take the rest of the people on the helicopter.
A little dramatic; good story though.

He was murdered
Stupid comment.
Clapton , I reckon anyway , its all a bit too strange to just be an unfortunate accident
Flush out your headgear dude it was an aviation accident
SRV was no danger to anybody
