It’s been so long, but it’s been exactly 40 years since Stevie performed live at the el mocambo on July 20, 1983, he was such an amazing player and every note he played there came from his soul

When Tommy came out to Nacogdoches, Texas, I got to play Norbert. He was apprehensive to let a kid play it (can’t blame him) but I he let me do it and he told me to keep up the playing. A really great moment for me🎸

He’s super nice. I took lessons from him when I was 13-16 ish and he’d always let me play any of his guitars. Sometimes we’d swap guitars for the lesson. He’s awesome

Tommy's love of SRV is one thing but his dedication to knowing and understanding all the nuances of what made SRV playing is what sets him apart from others. Its just cool to watch him do his thing.

When my son was 4, he was the ultimate natural relic craftsman. I shouldn have let him handle a few more of my strats, but he retired when he was about 8.

Folks having the licks, tone (almost) from SRV are a dime a dozen-they all impress.Tommy, IMHO, has a kindred connection to the well SRV drew from. Great player, just as important, humble!

I first took my son for lessons with Tommy in 2010 or so and he has always been the most humble and gracious guy ive ever met. He truly loved his heroes music and he channels them. Tommy is my guitar hero and as we lose those we have admired for years- theyre never truly gone as long as they stay in our heart and Tommys tone rings through our ears.

Thank you so much for doing these videos. Tommy is a wonderful soul and deserves all the good attention, promotion, and praise you are providing. I love him as a brother, and know his dedication and relentless pursuit to honor his heroes has been unfortunately attacked by others. You are helping show the guitar world how giving, humble, and respectful he REALLY is... Yes he is an amazing musician, and he is an even more amazing and noble human. Hence, why I thank you for featuring Tommy on your channel. Hope to meet you at the Dallas Guitar Show next year!

I think "tribute artists" like Tommy are weird. I get paying respect to fallen guitar heros and musicians, but when hes literally copying and mimicking SRV on stage and off stage even down to his mannerisms... thats a little weird. Hes not even being recognized or making money off of his own music, hes getting paid to pretend to be Stevie. Dont this tribute artists want their own identity when it comes to playing guitar and writing music.

Eric Clapton even said he was intimidated by SRV’s playing. He said even himself had to stop or slow down to think about where to go next from time to time, but Stevie was a wide open flood gate. It poured out of his being to no end. SRV was allowed to be here by the grace of God for a few short years until he was called back to glory. This man here is a kindred spirit and is a great representation of what we lost but can be heard and seen again.

68 SRV 4X12 and a 68 2x15 metal handle cab are being restored baffle on 2x15 was not right or made of correct material so im doing those this week had to get specific cheese head screws and parts in so the 2x15 wont blow with EVS and the 4x12 has white label Rolas in it 80 watters and he used it and his 15 loaded marshall cab for the Marshall Major head or back up for Dumble Cab if it went down the 80s could handle the 150 watts.. I also brought the aqua suede 50 watt small special which is two channel D clone with original parts but two clean channels more voiced like SSS then ODS.. The head was made at my Grandmothers farm in Texas in 2013 it has el 34s in it which are a bit cleaner for that sound but it can be biased for kt66 or 6l6 and we put bias ports on back so you dont have to take it apart to swamp tubes or bias it. Thats for sale also about 50 miles south of Dallas if you all are looking to buy other items that were Stevies the 4x12 cab was his I bought it on south lamar in Austin in the 80s and the guy who Stevie gave the cab too as a gift had lost it and he told me Stevie gave it too him Jack Morgan of the Crawl out of New Orleans had it. But I got it next door to Saxon pub there. Tommy Shannon remembered the 4x12 cab as it has happy birth day Texas on the back .... I dont have a way to bring it all into Dallas to show you or let you play it but if you all were down for a road Trip this week once I get teh cabs together maybe come check them out play the amps and cabs. Tommy has the number ....has email and I sent photos today of the small special D clone its here also now...

Hey Tommy hope to see you guys soon at Hub and 121 or the Grandscape, hopefully I’ll get to run a show for you guys.
I was watching this video and wondered and I’m sure you have heard of or even been to Charley’s guitar shop.
They have been around for ages.
