I was working as a sound engineer in the '80s and '90s. I had the pleasure and honor of mixing a couple of shows with him and the band. Fantastic musician.

Jeff walked down my street every day when he was in high school, carrying his guitar and cane, usually walking with friends down Minstrel Drive to Bonnyview, the street he lived on. I saw him open for Jeff Beck and Stevie Ray Vaughan in Toronto......company he belonged with and now is with, another guitar player we lost too soon. I’ll never forget someone buying me his first album putting it on, and didn’t know who it was, but after a couple of seconds thought it was a new Hendrix release, but no it was distinctly Jeff!

many feel Jeff was a great Bluesman, which he was clearly, but he wasn't just a bluesman, he played anything and everything and if you listen hard you can hear licks and riffs from everywhere, rockers, jazzists, blues, folk, R&B fact is he is an amalgamation of all this music and considering he taught himself to play everything imma have to say he was a musical genius, considering he did all this while blind . .. surely missed but his music will live on forever not to mention the bands have won every award imaginable, and NO! he does not deserve to be in the RRHOF as that entity is clearly reserved for anything and everything save rock and roll these days, pure natural musicians like Jeff Healey are reserved for bigger and better clubs, the ones in our hearts and minds lending inspiration to us all! the child from Toronto who lost his vision at aged one wet on to endeavor to persevere to become one of the best, came thru the other side in true fashion, one of the best... WE LOVE YOU JEFF!!!!

I met Jeff back in the 80s one of his band members is from my home town and they did a weekend of the most awesome guitar playing a lot of us ever saw in our lives. Very nice man I even got the opportunity to talk to him and tell him how good he was this was just after the tour with Stevie Ray Vaughan. The whole weekend we all hung around that bar just to see this blind guy play the guitar like no one ever has. Miss you Jeff

I was really heartbroken when Jeff passed. He was a monster player. His song, the one which put him in the map, see the light, holds a guitar playing so pure and ferocious that I think is still untouchable. His wonderful voice and incredible touch makes him one of the very best players of the XX Century.

I don't usually comment on videos, but I have to say it was so nice to stumble across this. I can remember when "See The Light" came out. It was playing overhead in a cd store before it was even put on the shelf. I had to ask the clerk who this was playing. I just had to know. Infact I didnt' leave that store til I had access to that cd. I was an instant fan all the way through. To me Jeff never got the accolades he deserved on the "Guitar God" front. He absolutely belongs there with the best of them. Hendrix, Beck, SRV, Clapton, Healey, Moore, Winter, Setzer. His name just belongs because he truly was a musical genius. Maybe he's recognized more than I realize. I would've loved to have seen Jeff Healey and Gary Moore jam. These days you hear so much about Bonamassa, Gales, Kingfish Ingram, etc. All of those guys are great of course, but too clean and technical in my opinion when it comes to gritty blues. Where are the great songs? Jeff made them, along with many of the aforementioned. It's not always about how many notes one can play to make music great!. RIP Jeff. Thanks to whoever took the time to make the deserving documentary. I enjoyed this very much. One last thought. I agree with all here. His singing was fantastic and flowed just as naturally as his guitar playing.

I actually saw Jeff Healey in my hometown of Santa Cruz, the central coast of California, I saw him in 1989 at a club, called the catalyst, and he was totally incredible how he played his guitar that no one would ever dared to do like he did. I do have his first three albums he put out and my favorite is see the light because I think I’ve seen the light with his brilliance which I saw on TV!! he will be missed and he will always be up there with Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimi Hendrix!!!

Jeff Healey deserves the credit for the talent he displayed. I have a copy of Road House, hahaha. His guitar technique was unique and gave him an extra appendage for fretting notes, chords, and phrasing. Quite enjoyable to hear and watch him play and sing, definitely a great blues player, talented musician and singer.

Love Jeff Healey. Was introduced to him when my dad and I saw him on Johnny Carson. Was a huge fan while I was in highschool in the 90's when everyone I knew was listening to NKOTB and Paula Abdul! 😂
I was lucky enough to see him in Atlanta in 1996. The concert was scheduled the day of the Olympic Park Bombing, so it was postponed until the next day. Security was intense, but I was euphoric when I was let in and was able to stand right underneath his guitar stand on the floor next to the stage. A stellar show.

Wow!! I remember one summer evening in the late 80’s. Walking west on Bloor at Christie Pits. Across the Bloor St.,sorry can’t remember the hole in the wall bar,but the music blasting out through the doors had me dodging traffic to check it out. It was Jeff Healey Band. I made the mistake of sitting up front. Couldn’t hear myself think. LOL!! Moved to the rear, about 20 people there, enjoyed amazing show. Another part of this excellent person & musician was that,He was also a a DJ on Jazz FM radio station it was awesome, 1920,30 &40s jazz. Always missed and Always remembered.

Thanks for doing this story on Jeff. What an amazing musician he was. I still routinely listen to him and there is no replicating what he did on guitar due to his lap steel overhand technique of playing. I've watched videos of folks trying to teach his playing. Close but no cigar. Although gone, he is still incredible to this day. Again thanks!

Loved See the Light especially River of no Return. Never got to see him live, not sure if he ever came to the UK, but a great talent and how he played was amazing.

I saw him live at the Irish Centre in Leeds towards the end of his career. The band was very good and they all took turns taking centre stage. All were very good musicians and they had a second guitarist who was also top notch. Jeff obviously was the best on stage but I think by this time he had got tired of the guitar hero tag. I still listen to his music a lot and it is great to find new videos on TH-cam.

There are special people that come into this world who show us that the lows in life don't have to be the end but a doorway to a greater positive outcome. So the next time you think you got it bad just think of people like Jeff Healey or Sammy Davis Jr they didn't let the negativity bring them down they embraced it and conquered what would mean defeat to most and turned it into a Blessing. It makes me think of this verse in the bible
Isaiah 61:3 3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.
