      It's incredible how all the fan boys of the lobster cult, pedestalize "Lobster." Sure, he's got his right to point out what he wants. He seems very uppity and conceited, and comes across like he's the bass guitar police. Apparently, he must think he's got more knowledge of the bass than anyone else. There's nothing wrong with how that bass sounds. His fake little smug laugh is highly annoying, and now I guess it's to far beneath him to review a Gretsch bass. This dude needs to get over his ego, he's a joke.

    I am a big fan of Lobster and he did a great job exposeing the bucker debackle but this bass is still awesome. Forty five years of playing bass and owning everything with four strings at one time or another and I can say it's a great instrument. Age and injury forced me to sell my EBMM and my beloved and heavily toured Ibanez prestige 3000 to search for a light weight 30 scale alternative. I auditioned several basses and kept the Sire U5 and this bass and of the two the Gretch wins out as my main bass. It sound great, plays great and covers all styles of music and the price is simply hard to believe.

      Calling this guy “influencer” is a little bit inaccurate in my opinion. He is an electric bass reviewer, also he teaches some pickup and technical tricks so is kind of too technical to be considered a simple “influencer”. • @TheDanBennett
    @TheDanBennett 2 ปีที่แล้ว +33

    I mean, it’s a win of sorts. But this kind of bass is a great starter bass, and I imagine many people who own this bass and are younger, or not yet gear nerds, will remain ignorant of the issue. 100 bucks of gear feels like nothing. Its actually getting people to use and display more of their gear, so it’s a marketing opportunity. Really they should treat this like a recall…take it in to your local dealer for replacement pickups. I know that would never happen, but to me that would be the only appropriate resolution that would feel like actual justice.

    • @chillpillology
      @chillpillology 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      true, they could have offered both. but still, they could have made an excuse about an acquisition long ago and blown it off. these are the days of mostly list prices, so if you are going to buy something then $100 off still seems like real money - even if fender still profits.

      @@LowEndLobster thanks for the reply. Yeah I get that, it’s really not right, and I understood you had sound issues with your particular Gretsch Junior. I was thinking of getting one but it’s kind of deterred me a bit. I may get one of the jazzmaster or mustang mini’s

    Would love to hear the bass with the “correct” pickups. Still might be worth the upgrade with the actual mini humbuckers.

    Interesting video…
    I would like to see Gretsch offer to supply actual mini humbuckers for those who would want them.
    That said, clearly those who bought the basses originally were happy with the tone, no matter what design of pick-up was fitted.
    Thank you for a very interesting revelation. 👍

    does anyone know of these are the same “mini humbuckers” that are in the G5260 Baritone?

    • @michaelconnelly939
      @michaelconnelly939 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The humbuckers in the G5620 looks totally different. They have the two rows of screws like in a Filterton. But maybe its worth a look if anyone has one.

    I have just stumbled onto your TH-cam channel while looking for reviews of other guitars and imagine my surprise when I say my own Gretsch G222 Electromatic Jr. I was, as they say, "shocked and appalled" at this obvious "bait and switch" fraud ... and one from my beloved Gretsch company. I was going to gift mine to a friend's young daughter as I was never a bass player really. I'm disgusted by the trolls' comments, very impressed with your knowledge of this instrument, your integrity and your willingness to go up against Gretsch and Fender. $100 bucks, true, is less than it will take to repair and replace, but yes, it is something, as is your decision not to review until they fess up. I stopped at your channel, after the lobster paw and your opening salutaion -- I needed a good laugh. I love Maine lobster ( and Maine - Florida sux - and I grew up here) as well as honest reviews that don't go into egotistical rants and incorrect info. You, Sir, are to be commended, as my father used to say. Thanks. You certainly took the high road on this. Maybe you should change your handle to HighEndLobster -- you deserve it.

    Hey Lobster, I've read that guitar pickups can and in some cases are used in basses. With that in mind and knowing the Gretsch has tiny bass pickups I'd love to see that Gretsch being used as a test mule for fitting various guitar humbuckers in basses.

    Hopefully now that the cat is out of the bag (so to speak) maybe they will add an rwrp neck pickup ala Fender Jazz basses and make the option of hum cancelling at least available.

    Reparations are much better than public statements, not that it's an either/or situation. Is there a bass humbucker you can buy from gretch/fender for around a $100 with the cash?
