    About that crack company? 60th rifles here by sunset under the command of Capt Frederickson..
    I think the scene were Sharpe meets Sweet William is one of the best scenes in the whole series..

    Sweet William is my fave character in this series...imagine him coming at you without his teeth and wig with a sabre in his hand..a wonderful scary man but full of humor

      Sharpe's Company is missing. So this is NOT in chronological order and NOT all of them. Viewers will wonder who "that guy that hates Sharpe" is because there's a whole chapter missing.

    @TheBType Yeah it's too bad they couldn't of had the battle as descibed in the novel of Sharpe's enemy in the vid, but still they did a really good job converting a novel into a movie.

    Major Sharpe should have replaced Boromir........He could have been sent into Mordor with his sharpshooters and would have stuck a STICK in the EYE of SAURON, saving the entire World

    Honestly, I found Bean's Sharpe to be somewhat more compelling.
    The novel's Sharpe, while tremendously awesome, was a tall, black-haired Londoner, while Bean's a short, sandy blonde Northerner, which again highlights his coming from the more humble working-class of Britain, and possesses an extremely strong sense of personal honour in contrast to many of the aristocratic officers he meets.
    The novel Sharpe has five women on the go at once, which isn't very admirable at all really.

    • @wordsmith52
      @wordsmith52 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      But in the end, Cornwell was so impressed by Bean's interpretation of Sharpe, that he started adapting his stories to fit in with the TV series.

    I think this version of Sharpe is as much of a fighter as the novel version, it's just not always shown dramatically, for the usual reasons they don't show something that would normally be shown: not in the budget.

    The 60th were originally American but then became part of the experimental corp of rifles (losing most of the Americans) before that became the 60th and 95th Rifles

    • @tonycooper633
      @tonycooper633 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Slight correction there, the 60th were a redcoat regiment, until the 5th Bn were formed in 1797 mainly from German mercenaries, they wore green jackets, and were issued the Baker Rifle, the 95th were formed in 1800 and were known as the Experimental corps of Riflemen, being clad in Rifle green from their inception. The 60th later became all Green Jacketed, and became the Kings Royal Rifle Corps, the 95th Rifles became the Rifle Brigade in 1816, and later the 3 Green Jackets in 1958, later becoming the 3rd Royal Green Jackets in 1966, there are now respectfully 2nd and 4th Bn the Rifles. So the 60th and 95 only became together in 1958, along with the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry

    @Songsmirth I think it's more along the lines of a common law marriage as opposed to a formal thing... Not sure about the novels (as I haven't read all of them yet), but in the films; they never have a marriage ceremony.

    Alternate history, Theresa survives the war, as does Sharpe. They settle in Spain with considerable wealth but no pretentions of nobility. The Glorious Revolution of 1868 moves up to 1830 with Generals Richard & Theresa Sharpe leading the charge for Republicanism and against the Carlists. Sharpe must negotiate with Wellington who is allied with the Ancien Regime but ultimately prevails.

    Sharpe being an officer is definatly a one off, so how the hell did Fredrickson afford his comission?

    • @SantomPh
      @SantomPh 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Fredrickson is an officer from Westphalia, formerly in the service of Hanover. When Napoleon conquered Hanover many of the soldiers escaped to England, where King George was also the King of Hanover .
      the German systems didn't have purchase officers as such, and he is a minor aristocrat given his education.

    @Zajuts149 - Many of the Colonial regiments were bunches of scruffy, rag-tag sorts. But because they were usually raised from frontiersmen - country sorts who knew how live off the land and shoot game - they usually made better line regiments than ones raised from city dwellers who were trained to fire volleys from muskets. Their officers were usually not rich aristocrats either, but middle class.
