The review was thorough. Game seems fun, I do question why they chose for the player to be the Dad. Perhaps to have more male gamers play it? If it was marketed as a SIM you play as a young girl, It likely wouldn't be as marketable to the male gamers. I think all genders still would enjoy despite the father gimmick.
Being a single parent is definitely a bold premise to start from, but unfortunately, as inflammatory as this can sound, I think from a marketing standpoint, a single father is more attractive than a single mother.
