I am so extremely excited to have found you. I LOVE doing exactly what you are doing. I am a regular, white, Southern-bred, very multi-culturally interested 50-ish woman. In the early days of escaping the house to university around 18, I dated a man from Guatemala who was incredibly overly possessive. I was looking for a casual relationship and he was ready to settle down after 2 weeks. I tried to move on and date someone else but he started doing things like appearing everywhere I did and trying every thing under the sun to divert my attention back to him. He actually told a male friend of mine that he would put a bomb under his truck if he ever showed up again at my house. I have kept a reasonably wide berth of men from Guatemala but I have since lived in Mexico, dated (but never married), wrote a book about expats and border issues in Mexico, adopted a child, learned Spanish, I even learned to cook indigenous food...anything to do with Hispanic culture. I do admire you! and I am going to go now and watch all of your other videos! Thank You!

A lot has changed in 29 years. Back then I don't remember Mara Salvatrucha even being a thing in Guatemala. Now it is everywhere, like a cancer. Parque Concordia has been basically demolished and rebuilt into a place similar to the main plaza. Recently, a dismemberment operation of murder victims was found in one of the cheap hotels in Zone 1. That tells you all you need to know.
I never visited that part of the country. Overall it's beautiful. Just keep in mind areas to avoid. But at the same time no disrespect to the people of Oakland California but it felt/feels WAAAAY more dangerous in Oakland or "The Tenderloin" in San Francisco than over there. What makes it feel worse in other countries is the feeling of being far from what you know and people you know. But it's not so bad. Just of course don't do anything dumb of course.
Dude you are crazy!!! I am in Guatemala right now for the first time, Antigua is absolutely beautiful and safe, but Guatemala City is horrible!! I ventured to Plaza de la Constitucion, hoping for a 'Mini-Mexico City downtown' experience, but it was a mistake. Apart from the square and the majestic building in front of it, the surrounding area is quite unpleasant and dangerous. Unlike Mexican cities where the main plaza is always surrounded by a beautiful colonial downtown, here in Guatemala City, it's a stark display of decay with brutalist buildings. Every establishment, from banks to churro stands, is guarded by heavily armed personnel-often with shotguns-and unfortunately, it's necessary. I had a frightening encounter when a suspicious individual near Taco Bell attempted to rob me, but thankfully, the Taco Bell guard intervened and scared him off with his firearm. Experiencing a guard draw a gun in front of me was truly shocking. If you're planning a visit to Guatemala, take my advice: skip Guatemala City altogether and head straight to Antigua for its beauty, safety, and cleanliness, and when you are ready to go back home head directly to the airport
Hey aLaMil, están engasados (cool) tus vídeos, siempre con cuidado haha and by the way, I see that whenever you ask for a price you say "cuánto es?" O "cuánto son?". Which I completely understand why you say it as you ask in English "how much is it" or "how much are those/these" but in Spanish you won't wanna translate it literally because it won't work the same, that's why some people get confused when you try to ask for a price, so you'll want to ask for a price with the word "costar" or you can also use the word "es" For example, "esto cuánto cuesta?", "Cuánto cuesta esto?" Or "cuánto es por esto?". The same with plural, "Cuánto cuestan estos?", "Estos cuánto cuestan?" Or "Cuanto es por estos/esos?". If you just generally want to ask without including quantity, you just can ask with "cuánto cuesta?" Just a friendly feedback on your Guatemalan Spanish, but keep it going, your Spanish is pretty chilero (genial) haha.
@@aLaMilSure, and I just realized that you used "cuánto es" correctly when you bought the bottle of water haha it works that way because she already knows what you need. For example, me regalas (regalar funciona como "get" en Guatemala) Es decir, "me regalas una botella de agua pura, por favor?" is the same as you say "Can I get a bottle of water, please?" and because the other person already knows what you need, then you can ask "cuánto es?", That's why she understood that you asked for the price. Even if you ask for 2 or more bottles of water, you always ask "cuánto es". But when you asked for the crosses it didn't make sense when you said "cuánto son?" and "cuánto son estos?" because when you say that in Spanish is more about quantity. So basically you kinda asked "how many are there" and they got confused, so in order to make it easier remember to use "es" even in plural. Haha But again try to use the word "cuesta" if you are asking for a price and the other person doesn't know what you need haha it'll help you a lot.

You really shouldn’t be filming so candidly in a red light district and are pretty damn lucky you turned back after that worker yelled at you. Nice videos though, just be safe and informed. Surprised you don’t have more subs!
🤣🤣 that was crazy she said he is taking video 😅 I don’t think the police care if you take video or nor the protistuta don’t want anymore to see them 😀 I’m Guatemalan and I will never go there.
And something else I don't understand why it's always can I be the same private security company. The worst part is that the want to make it look like 32 in a favor for me trying to apparently helping me to get the US citizenship that my sister get kicked me out but I'm not interested in anything like that. And out of nowhere to start doing the sanctuary to you to start having alcoholic problems between drugs and there are no friends who are going to spend time with you or tell you the truth that they are doing Century to you because I found it out when I was in Tijuana. A favor do you want it in return is in spite of me being gay getting married with a Guatemalan woman and giving her US citizenship, that's not gonna happen. And that's why they made me leave on documented because they don't want to go through the hassle of facing threats of death in Tijuana. That's why it got me involved in all this situation. Kingsville if they try to play the brave man hearing a little while but they can't do it in Tijuana.
That's something I hear from people from the departments are the same as it is for the United States the states themselves. So you want a girl go right around the corner well I know that most people who came here to Guatemala do you have any kind of protection with Century so it won't a problem but how is it possible that they are sending someone to your plans to potentially dangerous? Franklin stats with the try to make it look like.
Sigue adelante exitos

Hey aLaMil, están engasados (cool) tus vídeos, siempre con cuidado haha and by the way, I see that whenever you ask for a price you say "cuánto es?" O "cuánto son?". Which I completely understand why you say it as you ask in English "how much is it" or "how much are those/these" but in Spanish you won't wanna translate it literally because it won't work the same, that's why some people get confused when you try to ask for a price, so you'll want to ask for a price with the word "costar" or you can also use the word "es"
For example, "esto cuánto cuesta?", "Cuánto cuesta esto?" Or "cuánto es por esto?". The same with plural, "Cuánto cuestan estos?", "Estos cuánto cuestan?" Or "Cuanto es por estos/esos?". If you just generally want to ask without including quantity, you just can ask with "cuánto cuesta?"
Just a friendly feedback on your Guatemalan Spanish, but keep it going, your Spanish is pretty chilero (genial) haha.
Haha appreciate the feedback. I’ll try to remember that for next time
@@aLaMilSure, and I just realized that you used "cuánto es" correctly when you bought the bottle of water haha it works that way because she already knows what you need.
Haha
But again try to use the word "cuesta" if you are asking for a price and the other person doesn't know what you need haha it'll help you a lot.
Haha
copy
Good observation, I noticed that too. In Guatemala you say "cuanto cuesta?"
Wow, those girls were screaming "STOP FILMING, STOP HIM" God REALLY protected you from going to jail or getting beaten in a 3rd world country 😳 🤯
Just subbed, been tot hat country but mainly more historical and tourist sites, not so much the city… cool videos
Are you from Toronto? Just saw you're shirt haha
Wow! Cool stay safe
Ala got a opp in guatemala 😅😊😂
Honestly I was scared for your life!!
😂😂😂😂
Cuantas te tirastes 👯♂️💃? 😂😂
😂😂
Had no idea there was a red light district in Guatemala.
lol did you let them bully you into paying for water you already had?
lol naah I gave the guy money to help out
Are you from toronto?
Love your video ❤
Thank you 😊
Dont let them tax you like that fellow gringo.
You really shouldn’t be filming so candidly in a red light district and are pretty damn lucky you turned back after that worker yelled at you. Nice videos though, just be safe and informed. Surprised you don’t have more subs!
Who told you to go to the linea? 🤦♂️🤷♂️
hey bro that place zone 1in GUATEMALA is dangerous, next time is better if visit a different place, thanks God nothing happened to you.. blessings bro
What camera do you use ?
GoPro Hero 11. It’s good, just overheats pretty easily
Buen vídeo Bro 👍🏽
🤣🤣 that was crazy she said he is taking video 😅 I don’t think the police care if you take video or nor the protistuta don’t want anymore to see them 😀 I’m Guatemalan and I will never go there.
Dude, you don’t have to go outside of your Country to put yourself in danger!!! Go to NY, Chicago, San Francisco, etc., etc.
Dude you visited the worst places in the city, there are nicer places to visit there
That is what I was thinking and people here assuming all Guate is like what he showed in the video here.
I hope you had fun visiting my city !!
People are just ripping you off man high prices and they just keep asking you for money thats fucked up!
Bienvenido a Guatemala amigo. Saludos.
Gracias bro
@@aLaMil Yes sir
I was there last year and I saw two beautiful woman but many were actually ugly 🤣
Why do you travel alone? Why don’t you take someone with you?
We're you on a mission to go to bad areas?
When you speaking english everyday, they will know you not from Guatemala
Why would I avoid it?????
