🤣🤣🤣 I have been watching you for a long time Tim. I can’t believe you miss lead me for all these years with bad termanology. Great looking bug, it is crazy how folks can be. I think you are the best 👍
Always carry a knife. And if you're ever lost in the woods, start sharpening it. And sharpening it, and sharpening it. Eventually, someone will come along to tell you that you're sharpening your knife wrong and you can follow them out to the nearest road.
Hey Tim, I thoroughly enjoy your videos and go to you probably 90% of the time for instruction. I don't care what you call a "thread distribution device" 😁 I'm watching to learn, not critique. Thank you for helping me become a better fly tier !
Great tutorial. Mike Jacobs of Hawkeye Fly Tyer is the original “creator” of this pattern. If you look closely this is a derivative of Tim Holschlag’s HHF (Holschlag Hackle Fly). Tim Holschlag passed away late last year, but his techniques live on. Specifically the crayfish hop under an indicator. Both patterns are awesome smallmouth patterns. My favorite under a strike indicator.
I love this video. You call things whatever you want. You’re a true master. If you want to say put the thread in a whatchamacallit, do it. You be you. 😁😁
Great video and pattern as always Tim! Haters are always going to hate, especially jealous ones who haven’t been able to turn their passion into a successful career.
One of the reasons I love fly fishing is because I get to be alone. Generally speaking I hate most people... they're idiots🤣 (I think that's the correct terminology).
Hello Tim! I love this video and fly. I found all the necessary materials in my tying bins and will start in the morning to tie some BG's. As to what people assume you should call tying tools and thread names, I have been tying, and fly fishing, for 47 years and I call tools what I want to call them and if someone is upset, not my problem. I have never had a student in my fly tying classes object to me calling a bobbin a bobbin. Sheesh, people are so hyper sensitive. My wife calls me OWG - Old White Guy and I think that's hilarious and correct.
Great job Tim. Love your flies here in Nova Scotia! Don't listen to what the know it all "pro's" say you call the tools and materials whatever you want and keep on doing what you do Brother!
Super happy to see a tutorial on this, I had seen it on your Instagram and tied a few myself since the other day. Watching you tie always is a great way to notice small issues I didn’t see myself. Keep up the great work! Tight lines
Great job Tim. Let the haters hate. I have done my fair share of making elite tiers mad by calling certain materials not by their name. If people give you hell for your videos send them my way
Strictly speaking a “bobbin” is a “cylinder or cone holding thread”, when used in industry or sewing However, it is definitely the case that the term “bobbin” is used by the tying community to refer to a device which holds the bobbin, and is advertised as a “bobbin”. Love your humor, Mr Tim. Don’t you take no crap from the word police
Thanks for the Marabou tying hint. Been looking for hint for a while. Just watched a clip from one of our Aussie channels. He has been picked up on his some of his terms. Geez some people need to get a life. Knows.
Enjoyed the video. I enjoy your instruction style and find it beneficial. Don’t waste your energy on those critical of your terminology. Tying shoes is likely challenging for them.
All sarcasm noted, I can tell you this. Your tutorials on fly tying have helped me become pretty damn good at it! This is just another example, I can use this pattern on the lower Grand River in MI.
Never thought I'd see well hear the day that there are "Karen's" in the fly tying community. Give it to them good sir you do great work and I've learned alot from you.
Awesome bug Tim. Fly tying jargon is weird, your tutorails are not. Want more frustration, look up bobbin and bobine. You always offer great tips and techniques in tour tutorials no matter the lingo. Thanks for being you!
Nice fly. I will definitely tie some for bass. As for the pronunciation of "Denier", it's pronounced den'YER according to Webster. As for bobbin holder, C'mon man!!! Been named that since the flood. Keep giving us these great videos and your techniques to help us novice tyers improve.
It’s not even a bobbin holder… It’s a spool holder. Thread is wound on a bobbin in bulk to hold it, before it is wound onto a spool for use. So it’s not a bobbin, it’s not a bobbin holder… It’s a spool holder. You think especially manufacturers would know that.
Nope, not going to say "I load a spool holder with a spool of white UTC 140 denier". I'm going back to bobbin. Also not going to replace front and back with anterior and posterior. Or use dorsal and ventral instead of back and underside. There is also no way I'm going to say rachis rather then stem, just not going to happen. The whole thing is giving me a massive cephalgia.
🤣🤣🤣

I now have a fly business thanks to your advice
Beautiful fly and LOVED the running commentary of the grammar nazis. Keep up the great work!

Beauty is in the eye of the bass
Well done. More streamers and smallmouth flies please.
yes, please.
Salty Tim! I like it

Good stuff, Tim!
Cool fly ... thanks also for the humour
Great video, love the small mouth

Dubbing for tying in eyes. Looks like a great idea! Thanks!
That's a nice looking fly!
Awesome fly I’ll have to try to tie few thanks for sharing this one!!!!!!!!
Beautiful tie

I’ve found if you take a sharp edge and use you thumb to hold the feather still and give it a stiff pull it makes a good clean edge.
Don't listen to the BS Tim we love what you do.
It's been my experience that most who critique don't do.
Thanks for the Marabou tying hint. Been looking for hint for a while. Just watched a clip from one of our Aussie channels. He has been picked up on his some of his terms. Geez some people need to get a life. Knows.
Neat looking fly
Thanks for sharing
Tim where did you get the Golden Brown Marabou? can't find it anywhere?? Nice cute fly!@
Enjoyed the video. I enjoy your instruction style and find it beneficial. Don’t waste your energy on those critical of your terminology. Tying shoes is likely challenging for them.
Half this video was a rant lol. Nice video and pattern as always
All sarcasm noted, I can tell you this. Your tutorials on fly tying have helped me become pretty damn good at it! This is just another example, I can use this pattern on the lower Grand River in MI.
Should add a supply list for the items used to make this fly.
very nice
Love this fly, but I can not find copper estaz anywhere.
Never thought I'd see well hear the day that there are "Karen's" in the fly tying community. Give it to them good sir you do great work and I've learned alot from you.
Don't let the Karen's see how you spell a lot.
lol at the snark
Yolk raps. Hell yeah ! 👍
Who’s giving you grief mate???? There’s always an expert!
Ah yes... what would TH-cam be without the armchair quarterbacks and backseat drivers!? Love the fly! Copper is personal favorite!
i watch your vids for fun sometimes…
I have a bobbin holder holder on my tying desk that can hold six bobbin holders.
Awesome bug Tim. Fly tying jargon is weird, your tutorails are not. Want more frustration, look up bobbin and bobine. You always offer great tips and techniques in tour tutorials no matter the lingo. Thanks for being you!
iT’s cAlLeD a BobBiN hOLdEr
A couple of sizes smaller, "It Works in the Smokies"!
lol Its a bobbin, and its pronounced Den Ear. anyone who says otherwise has had a bit too much of grandpa's driving whiskey =P
That is one sexy fly 🤩
I figure as long as you don't call a fly rod a "pole" you're doing just fine.
Having a bad nomenclature week are we? LOL!
ackchcshually it's called....
You also can't use the word "wonky." Although I have no idea what the correct term is... :-)
I like the word wonky, I am also fond of cattywompass!!
I thought it was "den-yay."
They're called bobbins by the manufacturer's, c'mon now, speech police, stop it.
This PC World we live in will make even a type A personality like myself go silent.
So why can't you say these certain words ?
4:45 l0l

AHAHAHA denye'

Don't cave to the woke fly fishing agenda lol
