I’ve almost finished my 1st year and here’s what I learned, do a pre trip, keep your wheels on the road, stay in your lane, stay outta the ditches, stay off of cars, stay on bridges, don’t speed , don’t be in a hurry for nothing, watch out for the other asshole on the road, always maintain a safe following distance plus 1 truck length, never never never drive tired and never drive like a dumb ass
Bryan Ekberg Never too late. If have patience you can easily earn over 80k plus per year. Get 1 Year experience and try to get into freight companies they pay well
I did dump trucking for 2 years with a bad driving record and got only $800 week till I got a cleaner record and now I bought my own truck and I do intermodal local/regional work in Chicago and I make 2500-5000 net profit after expenses..
Congratulations. Young man. A lot of people talk sh!t about pam Transport. You are a perfect example this type of opportunity working if you apply yourself.
It's nice to see someone tell it like it is and say that if you work hard then things can happen for you. I am sure that if any of your instructors seen this video that they appreciate being thanked for the knowledge they passed on to you. Congrats on your first year.
Tony Nyc if you can stand to be away from home for months at a time. do it. im 7 months into an otr contract. best decision ive made regarding a money making opportunity
@@iAnon666 i made 60 grand last year driving a day cab home daily driving milk tanker class A. i work almost everyday but am working 7-9 hour shifts. you don't necessarily have to be a long haul trucker to make decent money. im not 6 figures but i do pretty good and still go home to my wife/kids/house/dog/bed
From who I kno and what I’ve seen on here, once you knock your 1st year out that’s when the really good opportunities come through. Leaving for training with Schneider soon, can’t wait to start the process
Why not buy your own truck. Build your credit and get a commercial autoloan? This builds your value on top of having your cdl license. Drive your own truck if you want more pay.
Very humble man, great attitude to have to be successful. What do you think about pulling doubles for Saia or Old Dominion? How you think the money compares vs bottling companies? Thanks!
I’m not sure on doubles. I have never been interested in pulling doubles so I haven’t ever looked into it. I would imagine there is money in pulling them just as the other companies. It all depends how you push yourself to make your plan be successful. - Trucker Glenn
Should be starting with PAM via driver solutions soon. My goal is to save the $ and buy apartments, move to Florida to drive, retire as early as possible!
From Glenn: I was accident free and incident free simply by taking my time on the road and at truck stops. Most of the incidents/accidents you will see will happen at the truck stops. Most common accidents/incidents happen while backing. If you are at a truck stop or delivering somewhere where be sure to always get out and look. If there is any doubt in your mind about distance or an object behind you or anything, take the 7 seconds to get out and look. That 7 seconds will save you more time than you will ever know!!!
I'm an 18 vet and i will tell u how to stay accident and incident free. First of all, take yr time, don't let dispatchers or anyone rush u never, always pretrip every single day, if something needs to be repairs get it fixed before driving it, always plan ahead, and pray everyday.Expecially for d.o.t lol that they won't go to writing tickets and things lol. And make safe everyday driving your practice. Own it. Challenge yourself to be a lil safer the next day. If u do those than 100 to none u will be ok
Thank you for sharing your experience I start my training at the end of November through a Tactical College that I qualified for a work for scholarship for so not doing the driver contract thing the way that you did but any advice on how to look for a job coming out of school not owing any money but not having a guaranteed spot like if you did driver sponsor training or excuse me company sponsor training
The snow is not the problem. Its the slush and ice that becomes the problem. I have never slid back downhill, but I have had to downshift going downhill in Colorado on ice before. That was on highway 70. Remember the brake gets you in trouble on ice. The key is to downshift as much as possible and take it slow.
Im looking at getting my cdl real fast. Im just worried about being home with my daughter and being able to get my wife and I out of her grandpas house.
Tim Torres when I did it, they paid $50 per week for food while you were in school (3 weeks) then about 50 per day while you were with a trainer (about a month)
Iodotoluene What company did you work for? I've been hearing around $500 a week in training. You can't pay your bills, clothing etc with $50 or $100 a week. If they are in high demand for drivers they won't get anyone working for them if they are paying that low.
can you raise your hands over you head and duck walk? can you lift and carry 25lbs if "needed".. with proper lifting technique. and are you drug and Alcohol free? If so you can pass the DOT. good luck everyone.
who you working for now? I'm with C.R.England and I have fulfilled my contract with them. I actually plan on doing that golden year then venturing out. I'm from Seattle,WA. looking for a company there that will give me the miles and home time. got any suggestions? I checked out a few like swift, Marten and knight but the only one that would do a dedicated was swift. I feel like I would be taking a step backwards. gonna check out heartland. they want one year experience. by the way congratulations. God bless you in your career.
Michael, Thank you for the kind words and encouragement. I now work for B&M Transport as an independent contractor. It's a local company where I live and it's working out great. What I did was I found a guy who owns his own trucks and got hired to drive by him. He is leased to the company. Now I no longer get paid by the mile, it's all by the load. Long story short, it's a lot more money. I'm actually learning what I need to know to purchase my own truck and put myself in the same position that my boss is in. As far as home time, I'm home 1-2 days during the week and every weekend. When you look to change companies double check on the home time and the pay. Start looking at local companies, preferably the smaller companies. Those are the ones that generally have you home more often and allow you to make the most money. Only switch if it works for you! If you can, go ahead and just stick to finishing that golden year because as long as you keep that MVR and CSA clean, "YOU WRITE YOUR OWN TICKET!" Congratulations on completing your contract and drive safe. - Glenn
The hardest part of my first year was finding my way around route wise. In other words it was a little hard making sure I was taking the correct routes. Also when getting to the destination, it was hard making sure I was entering at the correct entrance.

Thinking of a career change. Looking into going to truck driving school. Big decision to make at 40 years old.
Bryan Ekberg Hey man some companies will train you to get your CDL but they retain you for 1-2 years.

How many people pass the school
Hey question - how does the body feel sitting in a truck seat for 60 hours per week?
Where are all of the Pam terminals located??
Question? Can you bring home at least $800 a week? Your first year?
Jacque Branch C. No not every week. 800 after taxes with pam is a lucky week
Jacque Renee ok
Jacque Renee no.
closer to $200 weekly
Would you recommend Pam for someone that has a bad criminal record
How long do you stay away from home from and when you come back home how many days off do you have?
Bruh, today's my first day.. when I graduate and get my CDL's what should I do or ask to make THE MOST money?? Dont wanna be taken advantage of.
How do you have a family being a truck driver?
How much do you make now, with the the new company bro?
did they pay you while on training?
I would like to know this question as well.

Now its $350 a wk for 3 wks with the trainer after graduating. Then .44 cents per mile as a team and 30 something cents per mile solo. I forget..
What did make at Pam in 1 year?
What are some questions should I ask these companies that are recruiting me? Also what to look out for?
what type of dot physical dose Pam doo I'm going with Pam transportation. on May
